meh, first of all this wasn't just for n00bs, everyone gets a starter set. what i'm actually more miffed about is that it adds to the drowning out of all things fantasy in modern items.

we can still easily recognise the n00bs, kind of. yeah, the fact that the new starter sets are actually something desireable is kind of off putting as well. not that i'm in favor of class seperation, but the new beginnings should be somewhat humble. . .

but yeah, there are better issues, like the aforementioned lack of fantasy, i'll give them two months of updates, if i don't see some sighns of them paying attention, i'm headed elsewhere.

or if they're really dumb with it, maybe rallying users to create a new roleplaying forum that copefully won't be forgetting it's roots.

The items are worth 2-10g. I don't see what the problem is. It's not like they're getting items that are worth 1k+ handed to them. neutral

Yes. It's not some 1k+ item. But we had to work for something decent, and now they get it handed to them. They don't have to work hard to look okay. If that's how it is why won't mods lower or re-distrubite the NM Scarf? They've made items, like that but won't do the NM scarf.
They've said in their FAQ's (When it was less confusing, and they had like 5 questions):
They wouldn't lower the prices because it's better for you to work for it. You would appericate the item more when you get it.

I think the Starter set was made so that Gaia could be more politically correct.
You know, some people may interpret new users wearing rags as an insult to poor people in the real world.

I agree yes. That everybody new to gaia suddenly gets a starter set while all of the users before the starter set only got peasent clothes, it's quite unfair.
But unless they take away everybodies starter set then it wouldn't be fair to the people who join after.

It seems to me that it would at least help to charge just a bit for the set.. so they at least have to cough up SOMEthing, you know?

i've got mixed feelings about this, considering that i was with gaia before the peasent sets, were all we started with clothing wise were the "nudie greys" that default on a blank avatar. i do see reason in being upset in this, and yes, n00bs do tend to get a little greedy after a while, but...think about this.

this is a place that offers almost unlimited individuality, right? those of us gaian vets know this better then anyone. I've seen the world expand, events take place, balls happen, the great race, though i forgot who won...i think it was moria from durem...i've seen new towns appear, new items appear, GAMES appear, but i still remember the first clothing i ever wore, and they wern't peasent clothes. granted i hated shoes for a good year or two, but that's beside the point.

so while i do understand where this argument ovee the new sets is coming from, and sympathise with it, i also disagree with it, saying that the new starter sets help with newbies getting up to speed with things quickly here.

plus to cuts down the really dumb question of "where are those grey boxers in my inventory?" of all those nudist noobs out there >>;

Also, the variety in the looks of newbies minimizes cruel judging and prejudices that are based on avatar clothes

Hum...I just know that others have already stated this, but I'm going to say it anyways.

I think that the mods/admins have taken a notice how some newbies are treated just because they've cheap clothing on. When I was talking to Zurgi during the Halloween event this year, I noticed that she put on her peasant clothers. I asked her why, and she told me that another mod a long time ago wore his peasant clothes, and was called a noob quite a few times. After those incidents, Zurgi and a few other mods (Take note that Zurgi is no longer a mod) decided to do this peasant clothes thing every Halloween. I've done an observation, and I think what the mods/admins are trying to prevent people being cruel to others just because of the clothing. Although there's actually noway to prevent this, at least thet're trying, no?

Hm.. interesting. 3nodding I hadn't taken note, but then again.. I haven't gone to any of the events for a while. ^^;

I've given it thought into this. I would've been just fine if they've just given just one set of starters clothing (Just a pair of jeans and a shirt), but four diffrent full sets? As well as a house set, AND a fishing rod?! I actually was absoluetly CRAZY over the royal pimpin' skirt, and quested that item first! It literally took me weeks to get that much gold! Yes...that was my very first item. XD

[********] i understand views on offering a better selection of clothing for the newbies.. but... i mean... theyre still the equivilant of peasant clothes and ive seen those wearing the new items treated equally as bad.. if they wnat ot fix something. it hsould be the attitudes people hold toward elitists and what not (not to sya all oldbies are) that look down upon every person who doesnt have that "old" feel.., though thats more or less impossible.. people just arent willing to understand and look at things from other's prospective.. i mean... its not really anyone's fault that it took people a few years to find out about gaia.. i mean we ARE all still people... but nonetheless, i still think its a little unfair to offer newer and better opportunities to the newer scene when the older gaian didnt have these advantages... but... this again all has to do with the time of joining.. with inflation.. the items that the oldbies got more or less for free, are now an unrealistic goal for the newer gaians and so.. in a way... it's kind of a way to make it equal for everyone else...

and though i think the newer gaians still deserve better oppotunities... i think 3-4 different sets is wayy too much.. they should just be able to schose like.. one set consisting of mabye 3-4 items in it.. and that's it

I completely agree with everything you have said, however, I don't think wearing peasant clothes is the best way to prove your point. Like you have stated, I really did work hard for all of my clothes so I intend to wear them. Perhaps there's a better way to go about it? Anyway, you have my full support regarding your ideals on how Gaia should be run.

XD Very good point. But.. really, the majority of my items that I've worked really hard to get are.. like.. the OMG and the Duckie and Fairy Wings and so on.. stuff I can wear with peasant clothes. 3nodding But it might differ for other people.
