Welcome to Gaia! ::

Gaia refuses to listen to us and Will continue to.

HOLY CRAP, GAIA HAS BEEN LISTENING IN THIS THREAD MULTIPLE TIMES.

Next time, read the entire first post, at least. /:
I'm jumping on this boat.
I used to be an oldbie, until I lost my account.
I've seen Gaia grow.
And it's getting ridiculous now.

You can't blame the mods. It's the admins that make them have a set quota of posts they need to delete/mark as spam. If they don't meet that quota I believe they get fired
Where'd you dig up that crock of bull?
Moderation has no "quota" or "daily goal" or anything similar. Moderation means they remove spam and flaming and trolling as they find it/ it gets reported.
The Tech Talk moderators have, in the past ( 06? ), gone entire weeks without a single report or deleted post. This isn't them not doing their job; its the fact that there is no quota to reach.
And with a final note: Moderators can't be "fired" because they are never "hired". Volunteer work isn't hired/fired. Moderators (with, what, 2 exceptions here?) are volunteers. No pay.

The information regarding a moderators quota is archived in the earlier version of this thread. If you intend to invalidate what I've said, I expect you to prove it's not true by presenting your own evidence. You can't call bullshit with out your own counter evidence to back it up. And actually you CAN be fired when you're a volunteer. You can be fired without actually being "hired". Just because they both end in "ed" does not mean they are 100% related. You can be asked to do a job with no pay, and then be layed off (or fired). I know mods don't get paid. I'm not an idiot. However I am fairly sure there IS a quota. If you'd like conformation one way or another I suggest YOU pm a mod. I have heard on multiple occassions that there is a quota for at least the majority of moderators.
Being laid off and being fired are two seperate, but similar verbs.
In the same way "homocide" and "manslaughter" are similar, but different.
Proof? Twistex, Pirogoth Wolfblood, Ryuke Dragon, and Kederaji Tajorn are my proof.

There are sanitation requirements, but not "delete 160 posts a day or else; delete random crap if you can't reach that number".
EDIT: Sanitation requirements as in "don't let this forum turn into GD".

And me PMing moderators? I do every day. I am friends with many.
@iSam2000: Gaia will always be freemium. Always. Aquarium, the *five* zOMG! cash items, Cash shop, are *all* freemium. You don't have to have or NEED TO have any for-pay items to be able to enjoy Gaia. All freemium resources in Gaia eventually trickle into free-currency venues. At no point will you be held at gun point with your paypal account in front of you and *forced* to pay to use Gaia or get killed. Never. You are never *forced* to buy from Gaia; you can always pick whatever it is in the user-run market.

But tell me dear, how would you plan to support a company that costs 25$Mil a year without money?

My point is you can't directly coorealte them when the defintions don't mesh =p You can't legally charge someone with manslaughter when they commited murder now can you? Besides that I was never trying to make the arguement that being layed off and being fired didn't mean the same thing, becasuse they do. They are commonly refeerred to as synonyms rofl . However you cannot give exact specifications for "hire" and "fire". They are completely different words, with more than one coorelating definition, AND argueable meanings. I never said the quota was that insane. I merely said there was a quota. You don't need to put words in my mouth. I could care less if you were friends with a moderator or not rolleyes My point was that if you'd like to prove me wrong could ask one of them.

-sigh-
Neither did I.
It's called an example.

I really don't understand how you can look at all the features this site has, all the people that are working on projects both current and future, think about all the servers that were bought for zOMG, all the bandwidth cost for that, not to mention all the money they put into creating it in the first place and yet still complain about money.

How much do you think servers cost? How much traffic does this site get daily? What about employees? You think they work for free?

All I see in this thread is people who are probably a bunch of teenagers who have no concept of money. the mmo playing experience is in no way hindered if you choose not to spend money on it. You can have a perfectly fine aquarium with just daily chance items, as well as a nice avatar. No aspect of this site is pay to play.

Your "we refuse to pay any longer" signature is hilarious. You refuse to pay? Do you think everything it takes to keep this site running is free? Honestly? Grow up.

I haven't seen anyone reply yet but, I just wanted to say that you've got it a wee-bit wrong there.

Most of the people in this thread do want to pay. (At the least, that is what the thread is about.) It's just that we - or I - dislike the methods and manner Gaia is using to make us pay, the overall lack of communication, suchforth..

Please do not attack the persons. It is the opinions we are trying come to a compromise on.

Thank you for yours. heart

Yes you did rolleyes You insinuated that your example was what I was referring to when I was talking about a quota. So yes, you did put words in my mouth, intentional or unintentional, in my opinion it was the former. However I don't want to debate with you anymore here, I feel it's getting slightly off topic. Please use the pm function if you'd like to carry on this conversation further

To Loukos: Thank you for getting to this, I was looking for a reply too and hadn't seen one.

To Lunel: You are painfully mistaken. The majority of the people complaining about Gaia's increasing number of cash-only items are adults with jobs. As in, the people with money who understand its value, and who understand the concept of being ripped off. I, myself, was 18 with a job when I JOINED this site. I'm now 23, and well versed in the value of a dollar.

You have a point about Gaia's employees and the costs to the site. However. That does not excuse Gaia for continually ignoring errors on the site and allowing them to degrade, and instead, taking the money that we pay them out of our desire to see the site flourish and use it on features that demand more of our money instead of fixing the free-to-use features.

When Gaia is not required to/refuses to give us real numbers on how much their income is, I find it hard to believe they are so strapped for cash they feel the need to ask for more. They have already said the EI's are a minor percentage of their income (I believe it was much less than 20%), so why are developing EI's (which cost rediculous sums - I'm sorry, ten to twenty dollars for evolving pixels that turn into outfits that require you purchasing several of them in order to have a 'full set'? How is that not milking us?) more important than fixing bugs in Towns? In the Games?

To the people who keep saying it...

And I have trouble understanding how fixing bugs in existing programs that previously were working correctly is so much harder than developing new programs from the ground up. I would assume that Gaia keeps logs of the modifications it makes to the site. Hmm. Releasing Gadget 56 seems to have caused an error in Gadget 2, which many users enjoy using on a daily basis.... Oh well! Let's just ignore that and work on releasing Gadget 57!

Seriously, what gives...? We're paying Gaia out the rear for their pixels. I fail to see why our money shouldn't be spent on things that actually matter to us instead of stuff that is either going to fail, or that is purely used as a marketing ploy to lure in new users (thus loading the site with more data and eating more bandwidth). How is it cost-effective to continual bog down the site with new users who may not be able to spend money on the site, when you have thousands of older users that used to spend anywhere between 2.50 and 20 dollars each every month?

I'm also very much against Gaia's sudden streamlining of its appeal to try to bring in the Facebook crowd. I really, really miss the old Gaia.

And to everyone coming in to b***h at the OP or those of us who support this thread? First, you TOTALLY didn't read the entire first post or you would have seen that you were asked not to (or you did, and you're just a stinky troll). Second, this is a FEEDBACK forum. If we're only allowed to kiss Gaia's a** in here, I'd prefer they change the forum title to "Kiss Gaia's a**". We're allowed our opinion and to request that our voices be heard. Just because you disagree doesn't mean you need to call us immature.

You are very much the ones in need of "growing up", it seems.
iSam 2000
They could at least put up an announcment telling us they could have looked over the Petition forum.

Sorry, but Gaia is too ~*~professional~*~ for that.
well i'm glad i found this topic.
i've been on gaia for over a year(not much), i'm not a anime fan. i just like it.
Gaia is great, it's addictive but it's stupid to pay for pixels.i won't ever pay for that.
real life is about money, it's just not my thing to be paying for virtual one.(maybe i'm a myspacer, but i do get along with old anime lovers)

in one year i have seen much and especially, i have seen ppl beeing more and more upsed with gaia. and they have a good reason. you mention every single one i know in here.
you've done a really good job, i support u entierly .

i won't leave Gaia although i'm a very non-active user. i have my loialty too.

As others have stated previously to this... We would love to actually give real cash to help the site stay online and a float however, with the way things are now it could crash and burn quite quickly due to the several gaping holes with how things are done. Also, its not so much as the "Oh my god, we have to pay to do this!" factor so much as it is the lack of communications between the business side of Gaia and us the users.

Please however do not tell us to "Grow up". Some of us are actually mature enough to stand up and voice what is wrong and not flame others for it... Thank you.
