@zaffy, if you ever return to this thread...
I think the point isn't so much that there is now an abundance of money items and things on the site, than gaia is taking what users specifically want, making them very expensive, and doing it in a way that nobody wanted. For example, the aquariums. Most everyone agrees it's overpriced. Many Gaians asked for it. If they sold SOME aquarium items for cash, even big amounts, much less people would complain. But the fact that they ignored the concept of using the fishing fish that you catch and having to pay money for fish that only last so long before you have to buy another five dollar fish kind of makes it annoying. People are upset that the aquariums are now probably never going to amount to what they wanted.
Arguing aquariums with me is kinda pointless. Personally I would love to completely sell every last piece of aquarium paraphonalia that I have, including the three starting fish that are "frozen" and therefore unable to be sold. Now THAT is something I'd sign a petition to change. Stop making me waste inventory space holding onto an item I neither want nor am able to dispose of. And from what I understand, the fish can last much longer than their normal "expiration date" based upon the conditions within the aquarium. take better care of them and they'll last longer, just like anythign and everything else in the world.

well the sad truth is, we do matter to them, they need to hire and pay employees, and they can't do that if they don't find someway to get us to pay, there is no way around this other then full subscription fee, you're all going to have to get over it
See, if they did go with membership fees, THEN I could understand complaining. Until then, you've got someting for free, quit whining about it.

Extreme apologies if I sound ditzy and stupid saying this...
But I've read many posts of agreement and even some disagreeing to this petition.
And it seems to me that the disagreeing Gaians ALL repeat the same message that GaiaOnline "needs the money to function/exist".
Now that I look at it, it's true that Gaia really does need the money to carry on.
But my question is... Gaia seemed to live perfectly fine 2 or 3 years ago without any MC's or Cash Shops, etc. It thrived perfectly with donations. Of course, before, there were much less people in Gaia, but is it just the population increase of Gaia that's costing the website so much?
I'd rather get rid of all the new stuff on Gaia which is costing GaiaOnline so much, and go back to the old Gaia that was more anime-based.
I think, before, (2-3 years ago) there were very few Gaia employees that created items at a slow(er) rate than now, but I'd still be content with that.
I'm just stating my opinion, and I fully respect others with different views. smile
Please don't bash me for this. D;

Back then, from what I've gathered, things in general were a lot more simple on the site. And, as you pointed out, there were fewer users. To answer your question, yes, a population increase will cause the costs of running the site to go up. Way up. THe more members there are, the more strain on the servers which are in constant need of repairs, upgrades, and general maintainance to keep up, not only with the population but with technology in general. But putting the techno-babble aside, there's the simple fact that more members means more opinions, moe desires, and more demands on the creaters and developers. If you had three people come up to you and ask you to, say, make them each a customized greeting card, that wouldn't be too difficult, right? Now imagine you have a few hundred people all asking you to make something specifically for them. That's what the people at Gaia deal with every day, only the demands are in the tens, if not hundreds, of thousands. And in order to cater to those demands, time and effort must be spent, and people have to be paid for the job they're doing. WE pay THEIR salary with everything we buy for real money on here.

OHMYGOD AMEN.
Srsly.
That's probably the most intelligent thing that's been said here so far.
SOmetimes people either don't understand the way things work behind the scenes, or else they simply don't care and want things THEIR way on THEIR time regardless of what others have to do to meet that demand.

Ill sign it, it would be nice to be able to get nice items without forking over money.
Yea, wouldn't it? And wouldn't it be nice to get a shiney new Mustang GT without having to pay 40-50 grand instead of being stuck with a used p.o.s. that will only see the road for a few months before faling apart? Wouldn't it be nice to go to college without having to shell out more money than what your own house is worth? Heck, wouldn't it be nice to get a computer that doesn't crash all the time, a high-def TV, or even a decent media player without having to pay hundreds of dollars? You want the good stuff, you have to dig deeper in your pocket or save up more, or go without something else. That's just the way life is. Be thankful you're getting "ripped off" over a few measly dollars for a group of pixels instead of facing the prospect of being stuck at home for the rest of your life and letting all your potential rot away because you can't afford tuition.
