You know, what is really sad, is that the corporate bigwig what'shisface DOES NOT CARE about the "old" users. The 03ers and 04ers are expendable because they are in fewer numbers than the 07ers and 08ers. And that is really sad, because like the OPer said, the users (especially the older ones) are what helped Gaia to become what it is. Without the few thousand users that first joined Go-Gaia, this site would have never taken off.
When Gaia started growing, I am sure everyone was very excited. Yes, there were downed servers, glitches, and database errors, but there were also great forums and friendly people on a FREE website. We could even donate out of the goodness of our hearts to help make the website we love even better! And how nice, as a big ol' "Thanks, guys" they gave us little letters that contained a wicked cool item in it! Yeah, a lot of cool things were created as Gaia was growing.

Slowly, though, things started stinking. I am not sure when it was, it was so subtle. It seems like Gaia's dreams of becoming even grander were ambitious enough to sell their souls to the corporate world. Now we have MTV and dumb movies that no one intelligent will ever want to watch advertising via quests, which we had originally thought was going to be used for actual quests relevant to Gaia that would give us awesome items that we had been asking for - back wings and etc. Now we have a Cash Shop, which is unfairly being updated with cool stuff more than the gold shops, and crappy Donation Items! Now we have to pay our money to play a game in which our purchased items do not even last for a few months!! Thanks a lot, Gaia. Thanks for alienating your users.

There's more, but the OP basically mentioned everything I would have said otherwise.

I do have one question though:
I am a little out of the loop when it comes to the "MMO" game. I know there was something about purchasing rings and whatever, but is it confirmed that these items are cash/gaia cash only and do you really have to pay for all items in the game? That's really upsetting if it is true. -_-


EDIT: Yeah, so I am currently wearing a Hermes's Moon. So sue me. XD I have never spent a dime on the cash shop. I bought this IE in the Marketplace when it was still evolving, before the Cash Shop grew into such a monster. >__>;;

I've been thinking the exact same thing! *signs*. I felt like donation letters were fine, since you could when they first come out, get them at a reasonable price with gaia gold, and to buy it with real money wasn't much.
