Once the holidays were over, I was lucky enough to receive these lines from her and Voila! A shop featuring the armored bears from Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy!

A. First things first. Try speaking English. I do not understand your strange, alien weeaboo language. Do you want aspirin or a bear?

A. Better, but no. You want a bear, you can buy one through a sale, auction or raffle. Just like everyone else.

Q. Well, so and so has a bear and they didn't buy it!
A. Then chances are pretty good they did some work for me and got to color a bear for themselves as part of their payment. Or I felt like giving one to a friend. Either way, how I conduct business in my own shop is hardly any of your business! ^3~

Q. Are they RP mandatory?
A. A relevant question! Bless you! No, RP will not be required to own a bear. There will be perks if you RP. But I won't hold it against you if you don't.

Q. I love His Dark Materials! I wanna custom Iorek and Iofur!
A. Sorry to disappoint, but 1) Iofur is DEAD. We are not ret-conning Golden Compass just for you. And 2) Iorek is already spoken for by me.

Q. Then I'll just get an Heir for Iofur or Iorek. ;D
A. Again, sorry to disappoint, but as far as the storyline for this shop goes, Iofur did not leave any children. Nor does he have anyone in his bloodline that the other bears would be willing to follow as a King. As for Iorek, it will be MY call as to who his Heir will be in the shop continuity. Anyone found twinking their bear around to magically become Heir to either King will be dealt with most harshly.

Q. How will the 2007 Secret Santa bears be handled?
A. An excellent question! And one I have spent a lot of time thinking about. So here is the low down. The SS Bears will be fully RPable. HOWEVER! They will not grow or be able to breed. Also, due to how many bears were sent out for Xmas 2007, the SS bears won't be part of this shop's Owner's List.

Q. How many Bears can we own?
A. As many as you like! However, if I should see someone blatantly hogging Bears, I might adjust and revise this.

Q. Won't it get boring for everyone if there are nothing but polar bear colored bears?
A. Ah, but who said every bear will be colored exactly the same? There will be small natural variations, a few natural, albeit odd colored bears runnign around. Genetics are wonderful things, no? And for those who really want something different, the Bears have been known to trade for or make special fur dyes and to use those dyes from childhood through the rest of their lives.

Iofur Raknison is dead. Lord Asriel's great War is over. No longer will Svalbard play host to human exiles. No more will Bears act as their jailers. Prisons are human things. Religion, doubt, trickery... These are all human things.

We are Bears! We have customs. We create our own souls when we create our armor. What need have we for human things?

Though not all Bears agree with this. Those who had power and influence under Iofur Raknison hold no such thing under my reign. They have become too human in their thinking, in their actions. Rather than follow when we went to fight for Asriel, for Lyra, they held back and plotted. How could Bears fall so far? Pah! No matter. Their plots gave them nothing. They are now sundered from other Bears. Let them have the futhest corners of Svalbard to play at their human games and to make their pretty, albeit worthless armor.

Occasionally, one of Iofur's followers will return and begin to act like a true Bear again. They are rarely trusted, but their children are taught the true ways.

When I see our children, I find myself thankful that Iofur left no get. Such a one would be trusted even less than the Sundered. And such a one would have been exiled the moment it left it's mother.

I am old. But perhaps I have saved my people by sending us to fight with humans and other, stranger creatures. Bears will survive on Svalbard for a long time to come. And there are strange rumors of other bears in the world. Like us, but alien. Only time and patience will tell if these rumors are true. I do not tell the Bears outside of my Council of these stories. Stories and wild mumurings do not affect who... what we are. We are Bears! We live for war. We make our souls. And when we die, we return to the earth. There is no Land of the Dead for a Bear.

I smell War on the wind. A war against what, I do not know. Not another war with the human's Authority. No, this war will be fought only by Bears. And only time will tell what side will win. Bears customs or human thinking? Or some strange influence from outside? I cannot say. I am no prophet.

I am Iorek Brynison! I am King! I am a Bear! And while I live, my Bears shall remain Bears. We will remain free and wild!

Amulet: When a female Bear becomes pregnant, she is given small Bear amulets (one for each cub) attached to a small chunk of metal. These amulets are ferociously guarded by both parents as they are believed to absorb some of the strength, cunning and courage of both parents and somehow impart these things to the unborn children.

Cub: Congratulations! The cubs have been born and are now tiny, whimpering balls of fluff! At this point, the cub's father will usually remove himself from their life. The cubs will take all of their mother's attention, for there are many things they need to learn from her before they are ready for the next stage of their lives....

Armor Received: When a Bear cub is considered old enough and strong enough, they are fitted with their set of armor. This is not the armor they will forge for themselves when they reach adulthood! This armor merely serves as a place holder to get the young ones used to the weight and feel of the metal that will become such an intimate part of their lives. When a young Bear receives it's first armor, it is time to begin the lessons in War.

Adult: Your Bear has reached adulthood and forged it's Soul. It is now well versed in how to make armor, War and what it means to be an Armored Bear of Svalbard. Your Bear is now able to have Children of it's own or to wander and learn more about it's world.

Some things to remember when RPing!

.......................................There are no humans on Svalbard!
.......................................The bears may play host to the occasional exile, but those exiles will be NPCs. Neither will there be witches living on Svalbard. The Bears do not need them.

.......................................These are wild, vicious, brutal creatures!
.......................................That's not to say you can't have a loving parent or sibling. However, armored bears live for war. Sitting around moping about being jilted simply is not in character.

.......................................Only four humans are held in regard by the bears!
.......................................These are Lyra, Will, Lee Scoresby and Serafina Pekkala.

.......................................The bears do have an opposable thumb of sorts!
.......................................They couldn't work metal if they didn't. However, just because they're good smiths does not mean they're going to suddenly know how to weird a bow or sword.

Roleplay Rules

.......................................No God-Moding!
.......................................Your Bear is not all powerful, all knowing, bigger than anyone else, etc. Neither are they magical, super powered and untouchable in a fight. If staff catches you god-moding, you will recieve a warning. Three warnings, and staff will be forced to take over your RP and use dice rolls to determine hits.

.......................................Get permission from the other owner...
.......................................if you want your bears to fight and hurt another or possibly even kill. And if they decline, do not push.

.......................................I reserve the right to add on rules if needed

Customs will have several Packages to choose from. When customs are opens, simply follow whatever directions are posted at the time and select the package of your choice. Isn't that easy?

Also, please note that even though the Bears can and will use dyes to alter their appearance, designs are kept reasonably simple (ie. tribal patterns, swirls, splotches, stripes, etc.). This means no heart or flower tattoos. No Ventrue clan symbols. Simple, primitive type patterns.

And because I know this will come up later, while we do not allow actual cosplays (edits, painted on clothing/hair/etc) Bears that are inspired by characters will be allowed on a case by case basis. And by inspired I mean you take some of the colors and such and create your own pattern. The best example of this is Rose Nightshade's bear, Narfi.

Package A: Adult Semi-Custom = 25K
This means that you get to choose gender, armor type and 2-3 colors. The colorist chooses the rest.

Package B: Growing Semi-Custom = 50K
Same as the above, except this one will begin at the Amulet stage.

Package C: Adult Full Custom = 75K
You choose gender, armor type, colors, markings, etc. You have full control over how your custom will look.

Package D: Growing Full Custom = 100K
Same as the above, except this will begin at the Amulet stage.

Don't have a lot of gold, but have some extra of the current month's letter? Want a Bear? Well then, do I have a deal for you! For the current month's letter(s), you can get yourself a custom bear or perhaps even a breeding (Breeding Rules will still apply), once Breeding opens! Interested? Keep reading.

Now, unlike the regular gold customs, letter customs will be open on a nearly continuous basis.

I absolutely LOVE Pet Trades. When Trades are open, please feel fre to send an offer to SvalbardPanserbjorne. Label the PM as "Pet Trade Offer" and make sure to include a link to your shop so I can check it out. Make sure you phrase your offer clearly! Vague wording only makes me feel like you're going to try and con me somehow.

Just a few things to consider when offering a trade: I like nice clean lines and coloring. I don't have time for an RP mandatory pet, so please don't offer one unless you will waive the RP requirements for me. Also, I will trade like for like. Meaning, I will trade a growing for a growing, adult for adult, etc. In rare cases, I will also trade a breeding for a breeding.
