The tropical forests well outside Barton and Durem are host to a very deverse population of exotic animals. The humidity is high, and the soil is fertile, so plants grow dense and quickly, creating a wet, hot environment.

Several species of animals are being domesticated and bred in captivity right here in Barton, to keep the wild populations thriving. Today, I bring you my little endeavor: the Gaian Poison Dart Frog.

These little critters are truly fascinating. Only between 1 and 4 inches long, these small amphibians come in every color of the rainbow. They are more intelligent than normal frogs, possessing the mental capacities of a dog more than a simple amphibian.

In the wild, they are poisonous because they insects that feed off a venomous flower. However, after being in captivity for a few months (or being born in captivity) renders them harmless, though their bright "warning colors" stay the same.

Dart frogs make lovely pets for Gaians because not only are the small, beautiful, and easy to care for, they make lovely music. Both sexes will call, but the males do so more often. They can sing a wide array of croaks, pops, whistles, and barks, usually at dusk and dawn. Most people find the noises comforting and easy to sleep through, so you don't have to worry about your little one keeping you awake at night!

The first stage of growth is the egg. Eggs are layed in a pool of water in a broad, sturdy leaf. The eggs are very sticky, and must stay completely submerged. Gaian Dart Frogs lay one egg per leaf. Its best to keep the eggs warm and away from breezes that could chill the water.


After a few days, the tadpole emerges from the sticky egg. Not much bigger than the egg itself, it stays on the leaf and in the water. The tadpole eats insect larvae that share its water with it.


As the tadpole grows in size, its lungs start to develop, as well as its legs. They must stay wet, and spend most of their time in their pool, but they occasionally wiggle out onto the leaf.


Finally, the tadpoles finish growing their legs and lungs, and are now ready to venture out into the world. They need to keep their skin moist, so they prefer very humid environments. Adult frogs eat fruit flies and misquitos.

- Cost for breeding is 3K, and will produce 2 - 4 eggs.

- Breeding must be paid upfront.

- All eggs must have a name and owner within 1 week or they will be auctioned off by the shop

- If you choose to auction to sell your egg(s), the shop recieves 25% of the profit.
