Sil!! So, I was reading about the Gilded Eyrie and had an idea for a serf guard -- this sort of brutish individual who was raised to fight in cage matches versus other serfs and even Shroudlings, and was eventually bought out to be a guard/bodyguard. Along with regular guard duties would the Gilded Eyrie maybe send their guards to escort courtesans in the event that they're hired to visit an upper caste gryphon at their own home, or attend a party or something? Since they're so valuable, maybe the madam would want to make sure they don't get attacked outside the Eyrie by Shroudlings/criminals. Because playing a bodyguard like that would be awesoooome

Yup, they totally would Brolo! And on the rare occasions when the courtesans were allowed to go shopping, the guards would follow them around too.

The courtesans have some spending money, but not much. For all that they have the highest prices in the city, I figure the madame takes most of it out as 'rent' and costs for food. Eventually a courtesan can buy herself out, if she's very good, and set up her own domicile, but that would be pretty uncommon. The easier ways out would be getting married, becoming a live-in mistress for some noble, or aging out.

The smart courtesans still practice more traditional artisanal crafts so that they can support themselves when they get too old to work at the Eyrie anymore.

I was thinking maybe Pontifex the Second set up a deal with the Eyrie to have free crates of it delivered to them periodically in exchange for "unlimited access", and Pontifex the Third has inherited that deal without knowing it.

So he thinks he's getting in for free because he's just that wonderful when actually his company has been paying them off in free stuff for years. XD

Oooh, that could work, though it would just be sold to patrons. I don't think they would let the girls have it, except on very rare occasions when they need some extra 'effort' from them.

Alternately the deal could've just been for free booze in general for them to resell in their bar. :3
