does anyone know what determines what type of cert we get? ;O

Until I finish the guidelines for recerting and we get a few more cert types done, it's pretty much random, with a vague chance of thematics. Once we get those done, a core set will be available to choose from when posting for a cert request. You'll be able to choose a different cert for already certed wyverns for a small fee. There may be special edition cert available at certain events too.

But for now, entirely random.
