I would think that a polyamorous 'meti would be possible in this world as well, though I'm not sure if it would have the same sort of... mmm, stigma that it has in our world? Not sure if that's the right word, but yes.
And the front says that life-mating is not that common anyway. Aside from that, though, yes, flings are pretty common.
