The Interdimensional Battle Fleet is a specialized external combat branch of the Galactic Imperium. The Fleet's combat specialization is near-Earth humanoid, so unsurprisingly the Fleet resembles nothing so much as a typical humanoid military, with space armadas and bases that exist in a physical sense. Their enemy is the near-Earth humanoid physical branch of Deity Command.
The leader of Battle Fleet is Supreme Commander EmileAmai Piett, known as the Lady Admiral or the Dark Lady. It is her vision and will that drives the Fleet towards its eventual goal, the total annihilation of Deity Command. The Fleet is divided into fourteen divisions:
Galactic Navy (NAVY) While formerly this was the branch responsible for manning all the starships, the Naval branch has since become the area for 3d or "unlimited" combat specialists. In space, there is no up or down, so the tactics used vary quite a bit from those used on flat terrain. Navy officers study this type of combat exclusively. The Director of the Navy is Supreme Commander EA Piett and the Deputy Director is Commodore Landor Niela.
Galactic Army (ARMY) Parallel to the Navy, the Army focuses on 2d or "limited" combat. More than footsoldiers, most Army officers in the Fleet are specialists in mechanized armor of various types and many forms of weaponry. They consider the Navy to be a bunch of computer nerds whereas the Army is more of a hands-on operation. The Director of the Army is Surface Marshall Douglas M. Hein and the Deputy Director is General Makoto Teryu Paxton.
Communications (COMM) All information that goes from one branch to another passes through the Communications Division. The goal of communications is, simply put, to distribute as much information as possible to as many people as require it as quickly as possible. Communications officers are frequently stationed within other departments as liaisons officers. They are the antithesis of the Intelligence Division, which tends to hoard information and prevent anyone from accessing it. The Communications Director is Rear Admiral Empl. T. Atreides-Piett and the Deputy Director is Captain Maruo Hamada.
Intelligence Division (INT) Intelligence is without a doubt the most combat-active branch of the Fleet. The division is constantly running reconnaissance and infiltration missions and collecting all sorts of information. Intelligence doesn't just collect information on the enemy -- it collects information on anything and anyone that might be useful in any dimension. The Intelligence Archives are utterly humongous and, of course, only accessible by personnel with the proper clearance. The Intelligence Division is also the most insular of all the divisions; they have separate living areas, separate medical facilities, and separate laws. Interference from other divisions is not tolerated. The Director of Intelligence is Admiral Pavel Antipov, the Deputy Director is Satosuke Kagawa, the Assistant Director is Dr. M, and the Secondary Operational Director is Surface Marshall Tuthau gian Fourdr.
Operations (OPS) Operations is the backbone of the Fleet and oversees the Fleet's daily functions and supplies. Ops is also in charge of writing and enforcing all of the Fleet's regulations. Most Fleet members know Ops as the people you have to see in order to fill out requisition forms for anything. The Director of Operations is Admiral Kazuo Fujimoto and the Deputy Director is Vice Admiral Carlton Ryeman.
Engineering Corps (ENG) If it has moving parts, chances are it falls under the domain of Engineering. The Engineering Corps builds and maintains all of the technology of the Fleet from starships to computers to washing machines. It even technically encompasses the janitorial section of the Fleet. The Director of Engineering is Vice Admiral Teliu Atrell-Ptarmigan and the Deputy Director is Dr. Rustam Zakharov.
Science Directorate (SCI) Dedicated to pure research and the pursuit of knowledge, the Science Directorate is responsible for developing all of the Fleet's technology and weapons and for further advancing the study of science in general. The Science Directorate is probably the most far-flung branch of the Fleet which various buildings and offices and research teams scattered across several dimensions. Scientists in the Fleet enjoy many special considerations and a lot of psychological and disciplinary problems are overlooked in favor of genius. The Science Directorate researches everything you can imagine, from agriculture to astrophysics. Scientists are allowed to pick and choose their projects and pursue personal areas of interest. There's even a section dedicated to Unified Field Theory. The Science Director is Fleet Admiral D. A. R. Piett and the Deputy Director is Dr. Shuuichi Kurata.
Medical Corps (MED) Charged with the maintenance of all Fleet personnel particularly in combat, MedCorps consists of doctors, nurses, and medical technicians, all trained to use the best medical technology ever developed. The Director of Medical is Lieutenant Colonel Sally Veers and the Deputy Director is Dr. Johnathan Cameron.
Assassin Core (a**) As it is the core of the Lady Admiral's command, the Assassin Core names itself accordingly. The Assassin Core is generally the first offensive line for the Fleet, seeking out and destroying enemy commanders on an individual basis. The Assassin Core works closely with the Intelligence Division. The Director of the Assassin Core is Admiral Atri Durris.
Security (SEC) If it moves, chances are it's under surveillance by Security. Security is considered the first line of defense and is trained accordingly. Fleet Security doesn't merely watch events on monitors, they protect Fleet personnel directly and see frequent combat whenever the enemy attempts an attack against a member of the Fleet or one of the Fleet's bases directly. With the streamlining of duties, former Director Atri Durris was exclusively changed to Director of the Assassin Core, so the position of Security Director is currently vacant. It is temporarily held by Lieutenant Colonel Adomital.
Tactics (TACT) The smallest branch, Tactics is not really a branch unto itself so much as it is a special class of commander. The members of the Tactics Division are the very best strategists in the Fleet, from both the Army and the Navy. There are two Tactics Directors, one for the Navy (Gr. Adm. Trant) and one for the Army (General Fourdr). They and their subordinates form the command nexus for all large-scale battles, directing troops and crafting the plans that allow Battle Fleet's soldiers to achieve victory even when outnumbered.
Division of Magic (MAG) From fireballs to wand-waving, the Division of Magic covers everything magical. It is home to some of the stranger members of the Fleet, magicians and sorcerers and wizards of all kinds. It is headquartered in a special pocket dimension to contain all the dangerous magical energies floating around the University of Magic, which is what the mages call their large, sprawling building. A great deal of magical research goes on in there and whole sections of the University have been known to turn spontaneously to dust. Rarely are members of the Division of Magic seen outside the walls of their University. Some of the mages don't even understand that they're a part of the Fleet. Given the chaotic nature of the Division it no longer has a director or any command structure. The last director mysteriously disappeared and no attempts have been made to instate a new one (though technically it
should be 6-Mast Iuri Gavrilenko as he was the Deputy Director).
Specialist Corps (SPE) Also known as the dumping grounds, the Specialist Corps includes all individuals whose skills cannot be classed in any other division. The Specialist Corps has no director or leadership and is instead considered a pool of specialized talent that can be called upon as need dictates. No generalization can be made about the Specialist Corps except to say that its members are the best at what they do and that usually what they do is something too obscure to be classed under any other branch.
PsyCorps (PSY) The newest branch of the Fleet, PsyCorps is a dedicated combat unit of psychics of various types including psychokinetics, telepaths, precogs, and clairvoyants. As the branch is so new, it does not yet have a clear line of command or unifying goal. It's main aim for the moment is divisional organization.
There are a total of twenty different ranks in the Fleet divided into three sections: Enlisted, Officer, and Command, and each rank has three

variations of address: Navy, Army, and Classed. The ranks are all equivalent and the title of address depends on which section an officer belongs to. You can tell everything you need to know about an officer by glancing at his or her uniform -- rank and term of address included -- provided you know which section uses which term of address. When in doubt, address the individual by their rank level and name. So Captain Hamada could be addressed as O-6 Hamada and Vice Admiral Fujimoto as C-3 Fujimoto. Be careful not to address army folk by navy titles and vice versa; most will be
extremely offended. Classed ranks are spoken as "First Squire" and "Sixth Master" and so on.
The single most important concept in the Fleet is loyalty. All Fleet members have sworn allegiance to the Fleet above all else, even religion and family. The Fleet becomes their new religion, the Fleet becomes their new family, the Fleet becomes

what every Fleet member lives and breathes and eats. The Fleet also takes care of its members, providing every earthly requirement imaginable and fulfilling as many spiritual requirements as possible. If you still wonder how the Fleet manages to find such loyal officers, consider that only 0.000001% of all evaluated applicants are selected and that loyalty is the key factor in the selection process. Additionally, over 25% of Fleet members owe the Fleet their lives and would be dead had not the Fleet intervened to save them. Most will tell you that they personally owe a life debt to Emperial or the Lady Admiral or Djerod.
The enemy considers the Fleet to be a ragtag band of children, psychopaths, and outcasts otherwise unfit to serve in military duty, but what the enemy fails to understand is that these outcasts have their outcast status in common and their bizarre array of strengths and weaknesses is what makes them so effective. To be sure, the Fleet is a commander's worst nightmare when it comes to organizing missions, but it is a family first and foremost, and people will fight all the harder for their family. While the enemy has tried to incorporate some of the Fleet's characteristics in this regard into their own operation, they have never succeeded. The very nature of their operation prevents them from assembling any sort of force like the Fleet.
The Fleet is an exceptionally diverse family with officers from the following Earth countries: United States of America, Canada, Japan, Russia, Germany, Italy, China, Lithuania, England, Morocco, Iran, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, Poland, France, Spain, Chechnya, Greece, Ireland, and Hungary, not to mention various other planets and planes of existence.
For security reasons, details of the location and nature of the Fleet's bases and starfleets cannot be reproduced and in any event it is highly unlikely that anyone on Gaia will ever see most of the locations associated with the Fleet. The one thing you will see are Fleet officers visiting Gaia, and hopefully this primer has prepared you with an understanding of where those people are coming from and who they are.
Standard Fleet Equipment
Personal Stealth Unit (PSU)
Generally any member of the Fleet who has to enter potentially hostile territory (Gaia included) is equipped with a PSU. It is attached to the upper arm and when activated generates a stealth shield around its wearer. The PSU is mildly intelligent and can differentiate between what matter it is supposed to shield (the wearer and the wearer's clothes and any held objects) and what matter it should not shield (the floor, nearby objects, chairs). Most PSUs only shield the wearer and cannot create a shield large enough for two people unless the two people are standing practically on top of each other. The most recent model identifies feien as well and will shield any feien it is programmed to within a foot and a half radius, even if the feien is not physically attached to the wearer of the PSU. The PSU is about the size of a cigarette box; most or its bulk is dedicated to its onboard differentiating computer. Thus, PSUs designed to shield more than one person must be bigger to allow for a more intelligent computer. They work most effectively when preprogrammed for individuals but in a pinch they can be re-programmed to suit various needs. PSUs are very heavily shielded and can resist even direct energy blasts.
Embedded Comm Unit (ECU)
The ECU is a wide-spread microtransceiver that processes only audio transmissions. It is so miniscule that it must be embedded to be used, else it would be lost. An ECU can be embedded almost anywhere: in a body part or on a piece of jewelry. It operates by transmitting limited-range sonic vibrations that affect a nearby eardrum as if normal audible sound but cannot be heard to anyone more than seven inches away from the ECU. The most common places for ECUs are: subcutaneously on the ear or behind the ear, earrings, and wristwatches. The ECU is activated by being placed in proximity with an activator chip.
External Comm Unit (XCU)
While there are many forms of external communications device employed by the Fleet, the XCU (pronounced "ex-kyu"
wink is the standard. It is a fully-functioning microcomputer with navigational and tracking abilities. Its pandimensional transceiver can receive and transmit signals over a dimensional wavelength variance of .005% which encompasses all the dimensions accessible to the Fleet and far, far more. It can process both audio and holo communications and features a limited-function holo display interface (with limited voice command). The XCU can be hooked up to most computer input and output devices. The device itself is about the size of a can of a soda. It also doubles as a flashlight.
Mobile Communications Station
Localized Dimensional Disturbance Ray (LDD Ray)
The high-end of combat issue weaponry, the LDD Ray is about the size of an AK-47 and will completely eradicate whatever it is targeted at. It features the Fleet's most advanced onboard targeting computer. It works by disrupting the dimensional harmonics of the area it is targeted at, effectively reducing the target particles to nothing. The effect looks much like a disintegrator. When an LDD Ray is fired it leaves a localized spacetime fluctuation that if left unresolved can develop into a tear in the fabric of spacetime (but rarely). Given how powerful the LDD Ray is, they are very tightly controlled.
Standard-Issue Blaster
A blaster is a weapon which fires a blast of small charged energy particles, called a bolt, and is the futuristic version of a gun. Everyone in the Fleet has a blaster manufactured by PietTech which is updated every few years to the latest model. The current model is the A-9, but it will probably soon be replaced by the A-10. The A-9 features adjustable bolt strength settings, from stun to kill, and has security features which ensure it can only be used by a registered user, meaning there is absolutely no danger with bringing this gun into a home with small children. Users are registered by fingerprint, genetic profile, voice, and physical characteristics. The A-9 can even distinguish between cloned individuals, which was its major improvement over the A-7. While the A-9 does have a kill setting, it can only be used during direct assault combat; all other times the kill setting is locked out and the max level available is maximum stun, which will knock a person unconscious instantly.
Neural Net Link
The cybernetic future of computers, a neural net link can allow a human brain to access data stored remotely in other computer systems via wireless technology. It is implanted into the base of the neck at the spine and is designed only to allow remote browsing and modification of files; it cannot be used to modify the contents of the user's mind in any fashion. While the uses for such technology are obviously very powerful, the neural net link is possessed only by a very few Fleet members. It caused headaches and insomnia in many of the test subjects. Director Antipov is one of the few people who can tolerate it and considers it an invaluable tool in his daily work. (At the same time, he is notoriously old-fashioned and still uses paper copies of almost everything.) Hamada also has a neural net link, but a specialized one for interfacing with his homebrew computer systems.
