Welcome to Children of Amalthea! *a cheery woman greets you as you enter the shop* Come in, Come in...*she smiles and waves you in. The door closes quietly behind you as you walk further into the shop towards the friendly lady* What can I help you with today? *she leans against the counter as she speaks. You look around the small front room of the shop. Beautiful pictures of mythological scenes are framed and placed around the room, strangely, almost -all- of the pictures have a goat in them...somewhere.* I take it you're not familiar with the shop...?*she asks curiously as she watches your eyes fall upon numerous pictures* They're extrodinary, you know...*the woman stands up straight and walks out from behind the counter. She stops at your side gazing upon the picture you currently look at* Servants and loyal companions of the gods and goddesses of ancient times....guardians of the woods and fields....*she smiles, then turns to look at you* There's more to these creatures that modern man will ever know. *she almost whispers her last sentence. The lady makes her way back to her counter, her smile never dropping from her face. She sees the look upon your face, a soft laugh escapes from her* You're curious, aren't you? I've seen that look upon others who did not believe...*she just continued to smile as she stood there pondering for a moment. She looked at the closed wooden door behind her, then back at you. She reached out, taking ahold of the knob and opening the door slightly* Would you like me to show you? *she opened the door further, standing to one side, inviting you to go through. Your curiousity has gotten the better of you and you want to know what this woman speaks of. You walk slowly towards the door, stopping for a moment before entering.* It's ok, I assure you, you're quite safe here. *she motioned with her free hand for you to go on through, and you do. She smiles and follows behind you, shutting the door softly* Let me tell you the story, about the Children of Amalthea...

Goats have been portrayed as companions to the gods and goddesses through out time. From region to region, they have symbolized life, energy, and dignity. From bringing drink to a god to drawing his chariot, goats have been found in many stories through history

However, probably the best known...was Amalthea.

According to Greek mythology, in the beginning, Amalthea reared the most powerful god, Zeus.

It was prophosized that Cronus, father of the gods and goddesses, would fall at the hand of his own son. Fearing the words of the oracle, Cronus devoured his children, one by one as they were born.
Upon Zeus's birth, his mother Rhea, wrapped a rock in fabric and offered it to Cronus. He devoured the bundle believing that it was his son. Rhea wisked away the infant god to a cave on Mount Ida to save his life. There she swore to raise Zeus so that he may take his place in his father's throne.
Rhea placed koryvandes, loyal worshipers of Rhea, to dance and sing around the cave to prevent Cronus from hearing his infant son's cries. Rhea had only one problem. She could not offer milk to nourish the infant god.
There on Mount Ida, Rhea encountered a beautiful goat, a doe with two kids. She explained her situation to the doe, and without hesitation the doe offered to rear the infant with her milk. The mother goat was lovingly named, Amalthea.
The months came and past, and the infant god grew. One day, while in the forest, Amalthea snagged a horn on a low branch, snapping it off at the base. Amalthea cried, for her beauty, she believed, was no more. Hearing the cry of his foster mother, Zeus went into the forest, there he saw the reason for Amalthea's distress.
Zeus smiled and picked up the broken horn from the earth and told Amalthea to cry no more. He filled her horn with water from the stream and fruit from the trees, offering to her a gift of love. Never would she thirst or hunger again, her horn had been transformed into the cornucopia...the horn of plenty.
Soon the time came for the mighty god to battle for his throne, but no warrior goes to battle without a shield. Amalthea had grown old, and as a last offer of love to Zeus, she offered her tough hide to produce a shield. Zeus took her offer and created his shield of thunder, the Aigis.
For her great love over the years, Zeus gave Amalthea the ultimate gift. Immortality among the stars and to be the first of a most gallant race... the unicorns.
To this day, Amalthea can be found shimmering in the night skies. One by one, her descendants joining her in the vast constellation known as the Capricorn.

Here is where you can see the different stages to the Children. I would like to introduce everyone to Blueberry! Blueberry is one of my personal Children, she's allowing me to show you her baby picture. (This is amazing, you should feel so special! whee ) I'm also going to show you her adolescent (teen) stage, and adult stage. Just a suggestion though, don't laugh at Blueberry's pictures, she gets a little offensive.

User Image

Here's her baby shot! *smiles proudly* Isn't she so adorable when she's sleeping!

User Image

And here's her spunky stage. *laugh* She was such a handful as a teen. I never realized goats had so much energy!

User Image

Finally, here's Blueberry today! Isn't she a gorgeous girl?

This is just the 'basic' stages of the Children. The pose of your Child may differ from Blueberry's in the different stages. There are different poses for each stage for certain reasons. Reason One- It keeps you, the owner, more curious to see the next stage. Reason Two- I wanted to let my colorist have a choice in their sets. Reason Three- *Laugh* I just thought it would be more fun to watch them grow, myself! (Yes, I keep an eye on all of the Children!)

As far as your cert goes, you have a choice between two! Here are the samples:
Cert Choice One
Cert Choice Two

Also, I'd like to let everyone in on a -little- secret....*whispers* There are 'secret' stages....*nods*....I'm not quite sure how I'm going to 'award' these stages yet, but just remember, you may wake up one day and your Child has transformed into something special. *wink*

As of now, the only way to receive a Child is in a flatsale. Once the shop gets going well I will be adding auctions, raffles, and possibly contests! You're more than welcome to subscribe to this thread and check back often for any events that may be coming up in the future!

Flat Sales

Flat Sale Price- 3k (May vary depending on type, design, etc. Any changes to the price will be noted publicly.)

Next Flat Sale- Sunday, August 14th, 2 P.m (central)

Flat sales will -always- be held on a weekend. Mainly because that is the only time that I'm almost certain to be on. I'm sure there are others, like me, that non-Gaian life is rather hectic during the week. This gives more people (hopefully) the chance to attend the sale if they would like. If given the chance, I will post previews of the Children in the upcoming sale a day or two ahead of time. There are just a few rules for the shop flat sales.

1. The sale does not begin until I post GO in the thread.
2. When requesting your Child, please put the assigned number in your post. (This helps in case there is more than one intrest in a certain Child. The first person with the assigned number in their request will receive that Child.)
3. You may only purchase one Child per sale. (If you're buying one as a gift for someone, this means you can not by one for yourself at the same sale.)
4. Please do not send the trade until I verify the winners. I will list the winners/Child won on a list after the sale.
5. Please be courteous to -ALL- those intrested in the sale. If you do not follow this rule, you will -NOT- receive a Child even if you were the first or only person intrested.

-Child Info-
Please fill out the following form once you have been verified as a winner.

Quote:
Child's #:
Name:
Gender:
Personality:
Cert number:

Once you have been verified as a winner and the trade has been completed, I ask that you send a PM to me with the Child's name. (Side note: I do not do the certing personally due to the fact that I have no personal computer nor program able to do such. Basically this means, it may be a day or so before you receive your certed Child in a PM. I will have your Child to you as soon as I possibly can. Please do not PM me if you do not receive your Child right away. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. Hopefully soon, I will be able to rectify this fault of the shop.)

1. Are these pets roleplay required? No. I understand that there is a life outside of Gaia. I myself don't get to be online as much as I would like. Though, as in most shops, there -may- be perks for those who do.

2. How can I get a Child? This was discussed earlier in the page, as of now the only way to receive a Child is in flat sales.

3. Can more than one person own a Child (Co-owning)? As of now, I'm going to say no. Perhaps later on...

4. Can I buy a Child for someone other than myself? Of course! The Children make -wonderful- gifts for any pet collector! I'll just need your name, the receiver's name (for certing), and if you'd like to send a message ( Ex: "Thinking of you, I knew you wanted one!" wink when I PM the Child to the receiver!

5. Is there a limit on how many Children we may own? Absolutely not! If you want 20 different Children, then you can have 20 different Children! (In fact, we'd love to sell you 20! *wink*)

6. Can I have a Child for free?....*Blank look*....Really.... do you have to ask?... No. My colorist do -not- work for free.

7. Can I have the linework to color? Just to color, No.

8. Can I be a guest colorist? From time to time I will be looking for a guest colorist. When this time comes, I will post the request in the upper portion of the thread where it can be easily seen.

9. Can I sell my Child? No. If you no longer want your Child, please return him/her to ither myself or the colorist. If I find that you -have- sold you Child, you will be banned from all C.O.A. activities.

10. Do you do pet trades? As a matter of fact, I do! (Certain pets only.) I'm not sure if my colorists will be doing pet trades, but in any case, the pets that I and/or my colorists will trade for will be listed in another post.

11. Do we direct link? In order for your Child to grow, you must direct link! However, once your Child reaches the adult stage, I ask that you save him/her to your own server.

12. If we save to our own server, what about the 'special' stages? -IF- your Child is awarded a 'special' stage, I will PM the new image to you. Once again, I ask that you save this to your own server. (Once you use the 'special' stage image, I ask that you do not revert back to a normal stage. If you do not wish to use the 'special', please let me know so I can change the info in the 'Owners' section of the thread. Thanks.)

-If there are any questions that I did not cover in the FAQs, please feel free to ask within the thread OR through PM. (If you are sending through PM, I just ask that you don't send -really- stupid questions....Ex: "I know the thread said I can't color the linework for fun, but can I please?"...Questions like these, will go unanswered.)
