Q: What are essences?
Q: . . Essences can be anything physical: in Luxia, their Essence is of nature. In Cruxia, their Essence can include man-made items

The realm of souls was once shepherd by one of God's immortal servants: Tooaya, the Soul Keeper. The miserable and abandoned souls were brought to the soul realm to be reborn as dux-lamia, who served Tooaya and were given some of her power to find other lost souls and herd them to the anima regnum. The Elders of the dux-lamia were the greatest of her protégé, those who took on human form with otherworldly influence of the souls that they attracted and caught. Such was the order of the anima regnum.

Until Azael found the soul realm.

Little is known about the demon whose vendetta was so great against the child of God that he found the realm of souls and tore into it, desperate to find her and take control of the anima regnum. He sought Tooaya and found her, but she would not give him the chance to claim her or her abilities - she destroyed the gem of her powers, the Soul Keeper, along with herself. The very fabric of the anima regnum was torn, destroying the dux-lamia and throwing their souls far and wide.

The realm of souls was no more.

Tooaya was split in two; only one half of her being has been found, calling herself Toa and having full memories of what had befallen her and the anima regnum. Unable to reach her full power without her second half, she began to reconstruct the soul realm and find the souls that were broken and scattered. Without the ability to shepherd the lost souls, she devised a new way to attract them, to bring them back to the anima regnum and restore balance.

Now, she must lay claim to as many of the fragmented souls as she can, in a race against Azael; should he learn how to capture the souls of the fallen, there is no force that could stop him from finishing what he started...

Anima Regnum: Taken from the literal Latin translation of "the soul Realm", Anima Regnum is a place where lost (meaning, without a goal in life, suffering and miserable) souls are lead to after they leave their human bodies. It is a place between Heaven and Hell, similar to the so-called "underworld", where the souls await for God's judgement to either send them off to Heaven or Hell.
The soul realm is in no way resembling the stereotypical underworld. It is depicted here as a vast plain that streches to infinity. There is no ground or ceiling in here. Rather, it is surrounded by a black barrier in which only the soul collectors and the dux-lamia can pass through. There is no night or day in the realm, but the numorous glowing souls that are constanly floating around in the realm makes it more resemble a clear nightsky full of stars. And, just like the night, the soulrealm is very quiet.

Azael: A demon of unknown origins that seems to know Tooaya and has a personal vendetta against her...

Cruxia: Azael's perverted recreation of Luxia, born of blood and anything he can burn to serve as an Essence; they are generally mindless servants of the demon, their only purpose being to destroy Toa and her Luxia. However, some are known to regain spotty memories of what they once were, making them question what they're doing -- and ultimately being destroyed...

Dux-Lamia: Latin word for "vampire", these are bat-like creatures that Tooaya, the soul collector, had created in helping her do her job. They were "soul-suckers" that had the special ability to separate the lost souls from their bodies. The thrid eye-like jewel on their forehead was where they kept the lost souls and released them when back in the regnum. Their powers could only be used if the soul was truly willing to leave the body.

Elder: A Dux-Lamia who reached the highest potential possible; they were unaffected by the loss of the Soul Realm.

Luxia: Dux-Lamia reborn. Caught in a lantern compromised of an Oil with magical properties to attract the lost soul and an Essence for it to attach to, they are the re-captured souls that were destroyed when the Anima Regnum was attacked. Some, however, may not like the life they've been given and may choose to serve Azael; in such an instance, they are immediately banished from the Anima Regnum forevermore.

Toa: One half of the soul collector Tooaya. She is currently trying to restore the anima regnum and find the lost souls.

Tooaya: One of the oldest soul collector created by God, and the only one that was left behind in the Anima Regnum while the others became angels. Like the soul realm, Tooaya had no definition of evil and good, for she possessed neither traits.

For RP Purposes: The Luxia start out rather small, no larger than a human toddler and twice as rambunctious. The Luxia are not evil; the dux-lamia were not evil and the Luxia are no exception. They can be influenced by their Essences, but if you have a difficult time considering just how that would be, the standard dux-lamia attitude is acceptable: often without emotion or outward feeling, which can change as they grow. They have the most capacity for emotion and human understanding as a teenager, although their display of such things is often more volatile.
