Dianna Wynne Jones kind of disappointed me with Howl's Moving Castle. I liked the Miyazaki movie better. I think that's a first for me.

The book wasn't so bad. But I agree, I enjoyed the movie better.

A question, do I have to keep on posting what book I am currently reading?
I liked parts of the movie and parts of the book. Personally, I think they're so unalike that to compare them is a bit silly. I have to say that Howl wasn't my favorite Jones book, and I never liked its sequel much. The Chrestomanci series is much better.

But a nasty, drunk Howl is better than movie Howl, in my opinion.

Ghost Stories was an okay read.
As with all collections, there were some good stories and some stories that really sucked.
I'd give it a 6/10

Is the sequel called Castle In The Air?

That's the one. It was alright, but Howl was barely mentioned in it at all, and Sophie... well, that'd be a spoiler, but the way she was in the book wasn't very satisfying to me, I guess. The new characters she introduced were okay, but nothing very special.

Funny I loved Howl's Moving Castle... ^_^ But I agree the sequel should have been more about Howl and Sophie... Have you read the other sequel yet?

I liked it, it just wasn't my favorite of hers.

No, I haven't. Er, what's it called?

It's called House of Many Ways. It has a lot more to do with Howl and them. So if you've read the Chrestomanci series, what do you like about it? I read Charmed Life, but it didn't interest me very much.

I'll check it out, then. Thanks!

To tell the truth, I almost stopped reading the Chrestomanci series after Charmed Life. I didn't like it at all the first time through. But I had the double book of Charmed Life and The Lives of Christopher Chant, so I read it, and it became my favorite book at the time. I liked Christopher a lot better than Eric. He seemed less angsty, and more like a confused little thing you wanted to cuddle. And the plot was better, in my opinion. I'd definitely recommend you pick up the rest of the series, because it gets better.

smile I also have that double book, and I read some of The Lives of Christopher Chant but I got distracted on something else, and I hated Charmed Life, so I figured, what's the point? But I'll try it. I do need to find 70 books for this year.

Yeah, I'm glad that I continued reading. Charmed Life just sucked. I hated all the characters. In The Lives of, the characters are developed more and are more interesting. Oh, and I liked Eric (Is that even his name?) better in The Pinhoe Egg, where he's older and less mopey.

Can't hurt to pick it up again. Well, not that much. If you had a papercut it might hurt. Be careful.

Good luck, by the way. ;D

WOAH THERE. Sorry, guys. I've been sleeeeeeping. BUT ANYHOW.

Hello new people. Warm welcomes to Tina, Suki, Camel, Chessie, Sasquatch, Anime, and Crazy.

... I disliked Howl's Moving Castle so much that I refused to read Castle in the Air. Jones--I hate to say it--isn't that good of a writer, in my opinion. Sorry.

@ Lime. WOAH I'M SO PROUD. :'D Better luck next time on the book.

@ DCB. I'm going to punish you for adding a section! No, really. What I put up there was just so you could get the gist. You can change it to whatever you want. As long as it's still relevant. If it helps, Lolita was pretty good. Of course, that's the only one on your list that I've read...

@ Camel. I did, too, when I saw the 2k8 thread. And then I thought to myself: Oh, wait! It's December 31st! I'll make a 2k9 one! GENIUS.

@ Chessie. I think I'm going to read The Historian next. I bought it a while ago, I just haven't read it. And was The Book Thief crazy good or what? I cried so much during it, though...

Hmmm... So I just finished The Other Boleyn Girl and it was AMAZING. Unf. I give it a 9/10... It was excellent. Spoiler in white. -----> I cried so hard when they killed George. Okay, so he might have done the deed with Anne... but she couldn't get a son, so it was warranted. And his own wife testified against him. The b***h. But at least he died next to his lover, Francis. That made me not so sad, you know? And Anne just made me mad. SHE WAS SUCH A b***h. She took Mary's son because she could have a son and then banished her for getting married... and... and... Well, if she wasn't dead, I would get in a time machine and kill her myself, okay? I hate her. SO MUCH. But the one thing that made me feel better: George and Francis. Then younger, less bald and less fat Henry Tudor. I'm done ranting now. I promise.
