The southeastern United States was breezing by under Morgan's wings at a blinding rate of about 600 miles per hour. Counties passed in microseconds, states not much more than that.
"Valkyrie to Phoenix 1-2, this is Valkyrie 1-1, over."
"Copy that, Valkyrie 1-2, this is Phoenix 1-2, over."
"Looks like we're approaching the target area. Sector Echo-6 looks like it's in a bit of a mess, so we're going down. Recommend your squadron hang back until Valkyrie cleans it up a bit."
"Copy, Valkyrie. Sounds like a plan. Isn't Echo-6 the Dallas area?"
"Affirmative."
"Aww, damn."
Morgan pulled back on the throttle and dropped his altitude to about a thousand feet, just below the clouds. He couldn't really see what was going on down on the ground, or anything on the ground, for that matter. He'd slowed to about 200 miles per hour and was still losing altitude at a fairly steady rate.
"Watch yourselves, Valkyrie. SAMs are reported to be on the ground and two V-95s have gone down so far, and more are probably gonna follow. I don't want any of you to touch the ground." He engaged his active scanners and opened up his public com channels before dropping to about three hundred feet. They were about a hundred miles outside of Dallas, Texas, where there was some serious fighting going on. Odds are, the city was going to have to be leveled before the day was out. He sent out an encrypted homing beacon to any ground forces with open com channels.
"This is Valkyrie 1-2 to any infantry forces. Report your status, over."
