A Place to Belong

We're all human. Maybe some more or less than others, and some only by a thread; but somewhere deep within each of us is the light of humanity.

These are the intertwining stories of men and women who were abducted as youths and experimented on. They were all changed in irrevocable ways. Some lost their sanity, lost track of their humanity, became the things that children feared the most.

The people who did these terrible things, they trained their subjects how to tap into the creatures that were buried within them by the experiments, and how to keep their human form when they did not want to stay in their frightening forms. They instructed each individual on how to use the powers that their inner beast provided them with. In return, the strengthened and trained youths turned on their keepers. Some simply fought free, others tore the humans limb-from-limb in their hunger from revenge.

Every single scientist from that facility was destroyed, mangled into unrecognizable shapes. Their remains were cast out of the place, but it reeked of death and destruction afterward. Many of the youths fled and inhabited other places.

A good number of the forsaken youths succumbed to the power that surged within them. They forsook all humanity and cursed anyone who was against them. They ignore their human blood and have embraced the monsters with which they were fused.

Still many others have forged barriers around the beasts inside, keeping them suppressed and hidden below the surface. They wait for the day when they can be free of the wretched things within, but they cannot hide forever. Fate will surely call out their inner monster eventually.

Then, of course, there are those who remained in the old facility. They began working to cure the cursed state of being that they were plunged into. They search for one of two solutions:

The first - find a cure to purge them of the beasts that dwell inside their bodies.
The second - hope that, if there really is no way to save themselves from the creatures within, they might find a place to belong where no one will judge them for the darkness inside.

Dwelling Within Us

Most of us look ordinary, but...
Dark things dwell inside each of us.

Some of our inner demons are capable of transforming our bodies into barely-recognizable shapes.

Sometimes we look like animals, or mythical beasts such as centaurs or angels.

Other times we resemble creatures from dark lore told over the centuries:

Vampires, werewolves, imps, demons, ghosts...

In other cases, there are some who don't physically transform at all, but are altered otherwise. These are the most frightening of all, for ordinary people usually can't tell the difference.

The Natural Law

Inner Demon: Kain von Leuyer's demon
Human Appearance: Well, according to the last mirror he broke, he's got shoulder-length, gold-tipped black hair. His bangs are chin-length, framing a lean face with high cheek-bones, a straight nose, and a strong chin. He has deep-set, dark red eyes that betray the pitiless rage within him. Two scars accent his visage: the first runs almost horizontally over his right eye, cutting through his eyebrow and just over the corner of his eye; the second, more noticeable, is a crudely-healed gash on his neck that crosses over his jugular in a zig-zag pattern. Both scars are partially hidden by his hair. His body is lean and muscular, and he is of average height and weight at 5 feet 9 inches tall and 163 pounds. His skin is a shade too pale and he occasionally paints his nails in random colors to amuse himself.
Bio: Kain was born and raised as a normal child until he was about eight-and-a-half years old. His parents were kind, loving people whom he doesn't remember. It just so happened that he was checked out of school by someone he had seen speaking with his father several times and had assumed was a friend. The man walked him out of the school, escorted him to a dark blue van, and promptly turned on him violently, knocking him out and putting him in the back. From that point, Kain was whisked away to the facility where he became the subject of several cruel experiments, along with the many other youths who were abducted; he only remembers bits and pieces of these events, though. After all was said and done, and the people had finished training him and the other victims to control their newfound powers, Kain and the other youths turned and attacked. He killed the largest number of scientists at the facility; his rage was so great that he simply let everything out, and his beast consumed part of his mind. Unable to stand the oppressive atmosphere created by the facility's metal walls, he fled and eventually made his 'home' in Louam. He got his scars from fights with other Forsaken beasts. To this day, he teeters on the edge of insanity, showing no control over the vicious creature that dwells within him.
Powers: In his demonic form, he harnesses the power over chaos and the ability to slow time. As a human, his power over chaos leaks out in the form of pure rage. Because his inner monster has caused him to go insane, it is nearly impossible to quell his anger until he's killed someone. If he's hurt during one of his rages, his body become impervious to pain--he still takes damage, bleeds, etcetera--and he will fight and struggle until he loses consciousness or until his rage passes.
Other: Kain is a very dark, gruesome individual. He keeps to himself on some days, but there are many occasions where he will wander out into the streets of the city at night simply to prey on whomever he might find walking alone in the dark. If he were completely sane, he'd be classified as a wolf, or a womanizer, but as that isn't so, he's more of a sadistic creep who prefers to prey on women. Kain is sarcastic in nature and finds humor in the least humorous places. Oddly enough, when he flies into one of his impervious rages, he seems to find it hilarious and will laugh incessantly, terrifying whomever it is he's assaulting.

Character Name: Eva Lorraine Deluur (de-lure)
Nickname: Eve, Vee, Veevee

Gender: Female

The first is semi-controlled version of herself with some attributes of her monster and all of the power. The second is like a full release which only come out if the situation is dire. This form is more vicious and even less controlled.
Human Appearance: Eva is a rather small person, physically, a strong contrast to the creature she has locked up within her. Fiery red hair falls just a short bit past her shoulders with much shorter bangs that frame the top half of her face and sometimes obscure her eyes. She has a soft visage, a small, rounded jaw and chin. Eva has vivid green eyes, which reflect a peaceful nature, with flecks of gold in them. Her body is slender and short at 5 feet 3 inches in height. Out of habit, she exercises regularly, ensuring that she has enough muscular strength to protect herself. She weight is relatively average for her height and body type at 110 pounds. Her skin is half a shade lighter than most, but not enough so to be called pale.
Bio: Eva was actually born to a woman who was working in the Facility. She was raised, almost neglectfully, in that dreadful place until she was old enough to be used in their experiments. Even before the unnatural things were done to her, it seemed that Eva's mother simply hadn't cared for her. Afterward, she was left to be cared for and taught by the other scientists. Her fellow youths didn't seem to like her much, either, because she didn't seem to be quite as victimized as they had been. Despite that, though, the poor girl had absolutely despised what the experiments had turned her into and when the other youths turned against the scientists, she did what she could to help. Once it was over, she escaped with some of the others. Instead of embracing her monster, she forced as far into the back of her mind as possible and sealed it away as best she could. She attempts to live a slightly normal life in Louam. She has had many clashes with Kain von Leuyer.
Powers: In her first form, she is able to summon fire at will and create spikes along her arms which can be detached and thrown. In her second form, she has the same powers as well as the ability to extend and retract her claws.
Other: Eva is a very calm person. She's extremely sweet-hearted and cares passionately for the normal human beings who exist around her. She tries to be optimistic as often as she can. Eva keeps an eye out for Kain in case he's prowling the areas near her in search for new victims. Because she missed out on any semblances of child in that Facility, she collects odd toys and trinkets at random. She's sometimes seen with a small stuffed tiger that she had fashioned into a small backpack.
Job: She works part-time at a flower shop in the Market area.

Bio: Luna's past to her is fuzzy to her. She can recall her parents very faintly. She had a good life with her parents. Her mother was always gone and her father was helping her all the time. Up until she was four her father was the only parent she had. When she turned five her mother got fired from her job and stayed home much more although still looking for another job. One night she had been put to bed after a few hours when everyone was asleep she heard a bang on her door. She got up and went to the door. When she opened it there where strange men there. They picked her up and knocked her out before she could do anything. She has been at the facility ever since
Powers: Depending on her mood she gains different powers when she's angry her strength soars when she is sad she can control water when she is happy (if ever) she can change others moods when she is in a neutral state then she can read minds faintly (only a few words)
Other: She is quiet and doesn't talk unless it's good news when she is angry she will normally just punch a wall she doesn't show her emotions unless necessary

I am the Gaian: Masquerade Attraction
Character name: Yvette D'Souza
Nickname: Evie
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Little from Column A, Little from Column B
Appearance: Let's see. I'm tall, about 6'1" and last time I checked I weighed about 170 pounds. I have reddish, gold, curly hair -- I like to think of it like a lion's mane -- that comes down past my shoulders, with straight-cut bangs that cover my eyebrows. My eyes are green, but I have a scar in one eye that extends my pupil to the edge of my iris. You can't really notice it until you're staring right at me. I'm quite pale, which is fine by me and I've got a couple tattoos here and there. I usually wear pretty casual clothes and no makeup -- it's so hot in the bakery that it usually just slides off your face.
Bio: I like to think I've lived a pretty average life. I lived with my Dad when I was young, only because Mum died giving birth to my brother. It's a bit tragic, he was so sick when he was born and he died a little bit after. I was too young to know, but it nearly killed Dad. But, he healed, never entirely, but life went on. We moved to Louam when I was twelve, because Dad got a job with the Laboratory there. We lived in a big, open plan house in the Northern Outlands. When I was seventeen, Dad was sent to prison for some reason that was never really explained to me. To this day, I still don't know where he is or if he's even alive.
Other: I don't even know how, but I can always manage to find the brightness in things. I can have a conversation with anyone really, which some people would call dangerous but lets me meet some pretty quirky characters.
Job: I work in a bakery as a pastry chef.

Setting

This roleplay is set in a city.
It's a big city, with many twists and turns.

The city of Louam is the perfect place to live in for someone who has something to hide.

A good portion of the "inhuman" population has begun to inhabit the city and areas around it.

Layout

Louam is sectioned into 6 areas:

-The Market: where big stores and small shops are; easily the busiest section. Center of Louam

-The Quarters: citizens generally live here. It is the largest section and encircles the Market. Includes apartments, houses, etc.

-The Franchise: pretty big section; includes inns, hotels, food chains, restaurants, etc.

-The Slums: the "monsters" live here, mainly. It's not a very recreational area, nor is it respectable. It's the setting for a lot of immoral happenings.

-Northern Outlands: mostly forested with some mountainous region. Some housing development.

-Southern Outlands: mostly hills and fields; some forestry. A lot of farming, housing is moderate.
