Every tome and manuscript is labeled, in The Year Our Lord 1600.
The Italian Renaissance is at its height, and culture is flourishing. However, beneath all of
the artistry, and all of the gleaming architecture, is a secret society of supernatural creatures,
made up of Fae, Djinn, Vampyres, and Werewolves. This society is known as The Veil.
This ancient association was once an equal body for all creatures. However, ancient wars
(circa 8 BCE) between these creatures established a strict and immutable hierarchy. The Fae
were the victors establishing their domain over the others. The vampyre in order to preserve their
way of life sided with the Fae, acting primarily as assassins, diplomats, and spies. The
werewolves whose powers depended on the phases of the moon were the ultimate losers,
becoming the dredges of both the supernatural and human society. The Djinn, as powerful as
the Fae, are the outliers, traveling nomads that are largely neutral and apathetic to the plights
of other creatures.
The werewolves, tired of their place in society have conjured up a plot to rebel against Fae
authority, and sway Vampyres, Djinn, and maybe even Fae over to their cause.
Additionally, with the rise of technology, science, and the arts, Humans may be on the verge
of finding out about supernatural creatures and The Veil.
Can the werewolves and their allies be successful with rebellion, or will the Fae put them
down once again. Or will humans take charge and destroy the The Veil altogether.
Carnivale. A sumptuous feast for the eyes, and a leniency toward mystery and debauchery.
For the members of The Veil, Carnivale is the largest and most mandatory event of the year.
This holiday was once the height of the supernatural calendar. And like all things, the Church
made this traditionally secular festivals, more sacred--the festival days before Lent. Before
the wars, the gilded and brocaded masks of Carnivale signified hegemony between all races.
Afterwards, the masks signified the shrouded positions that supernatural creatures must have
amongst mankind--hiding in plain sight. The Fae expect tribute whether large or small from
every supernatural creature, and in return, the Fae allow them to enjoy every single luxury
of the grand ball.
Humans are often curious about the extravagant party the Grand Duke (The Veil Leader)
throws each Carnivale season. Not only is the guest list highly exclusive, but seemingly
very random and selective. Sometimes a few lucky or unlucky humans get an invite--due
to their talents or for their more... palatable qualities.

While I know the rules may be boring, and should go without saying, they still need to be
reiterated. As a role play on Gaia Online I expect you to follow all of Gaia’s ToS. This role
play will definitely be rife with violence and romance, but keep it under control. I do want
everyone to have fun, but lewd or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
To apply for this RP you must first fill out a Character Reservation form. Once done, you will
PM your reservation form to both tubercular skies. Once accepted, you are free to post your
reservation on the OOC thread.
At that point you will have one week to complete your profile, in which you will make a thread,
link tubercular skies. If you do not send the profile within a week, then your reservation will be
given away. If accepted, we'll link the profile to your picture in the "characters" spot on the front
of the RP.
Just don’t do it. All of the races have different strengths and different weaknesses, but that
does not give you the right to powerplay. There are some characters that are destined to die
in this role play, but you must talk to the moderators and the ill-fated character, before some-
one is killed off. I cannot stress this enough.
This is an advanced literate role play. While I do favor quality over quantity, there cannot be
any one liners, nor skimpy paragraphs. Posts should average around 700 words. I can under-
stand that dialogue posts can be much shorter than regular posts, but make your very
best effort. There’s nothing worse when someone puts up a thoughtful post, and they are
given a short sighted reply.
If you cannot meet this criteria, you will be asked to leave.
I’m going to be honest, I love history. However, I know that there are some people who can’t
tell you the difference between Medieval and Victorian. I’m going to ask of you some very basic
knowledge of the Renaissance Italy (think Assassins Creed 2 through Revelations). You do
not have to be a scholar, but you do have to know that there was no electricity.
For those of you more interested in learning about the Renaissance I will link you to some
useful links:
If you have any specific questions about the time period, I would be glad to answer them
for you. It will tickle my historical sensibilities.
A plot is only as good as its characters! I’m looking for well-rounded, interesting, flawed, and
sound characters. Mary Sues and Gary Stues need not apply. That means if your profile is
full of ooey-gooey sueiness, it will be denied.
As this is a Renaissance RP, I expect to have period accurate names. Do not throw Bob or
Tom in there. Just don't do it!
Also, half-breed characters are not accepted here. You cannot be half vampire, half werewolf,
half unicorn, half iPhone Fairy Mermaid Princess…you get the drill!
Anime and illustrative pictures are not allowed. Real and celebrity pictures are permitted.
In addition, the pictures do not, I repeat, DO NOT have to be period accurate.
As this is a Renaissance RP, I expect to have period accurate names. Also take into
consideration the time period and the place, your character is from. If you have Djinn from
Persia, who was born in 1400 AD--find a Persian name that was prevalent in 1400 AD. You
can have a more common name for a "nickname" if you choose. Need help? Google is your
friend. Or just ask the mods for some resources.
A role play is only as good as the posts. I understand that real life gets in the way, and
there will be times when you just cannot post. The simple goal of one post a week is what
I’m asking for. If you fail to do this, without notifying the mods, you will be asked to leave.
I’m a huge stickler for font sizes so make sure its between 9-11.5. I also understand that
not everyone is a master at coding and graphics, but a simple picture and slight coding is
definitely preferred. Also if you color your dialogue text, make sure it is in a readable color.
Alice Blue is not going to cut it.
I love hearing input from other people about plots. Make sure to keep the OOC alive by
adding your own thoughts and brainstorming with other characters.
Once again, if you have a question about the slightest thing let one of the mods know and
we will be happy to clear up any uncertainty.
- The Veil strives to keep order and harmony amongst all races, seeking to protect all
supernatural creatures under the ‘veil’ of security
{ Ancient Amendments I-X omitted from this transcript…}
Amendments I-X outline the original text and creeds of The Veil. Amendments made
thereafter are from the presiding governmental bodies of the Fae and their assigns.
(X) Voluntary disclosure of The Veil to any Human, unless under compulsion or mastery,
(X) will be subject to imprisonment and subsequent execution.
(XI) Voluntary disclosure of the creatures protected by The Veil to any Human, unless under
(XI) compulsion or mastery, will be subject to imprisonment and subsequent execution.
(XII) Creatures under the pangs of blood lust, have license to feed. Killings, if necessary,
(XII) must be kept silent, and must not arouse attention.
(XIII) Killing an official or dignitary of The Veil is strictly prohibited and constitutes as high
treason. Conspirators will be executed.
(XIV) Conspiring against the governmental body of the Fae and their assigns is strictly
(XIV) prohibited and constitutes as high treason. Conspirators will be executed.
(XV) A mandatory tribute to the Fae must be given each month, to show loyalty. Violators
(XV) will be swiftly imprisoned.
(XVI) Due to the haphazard nature of werewolf transformations, every werewolf must don
(XVI) a specific amulet at all times, to control his transformations during the full moon to protect
(XVI) himself. Violators will be swiftly imprisoned and subsequently executed.
(XVII) Those of a werewolf bloodline must transform out of city limits.
(XVIII) Djinn, Jinn, or Genies must register in The Veil if they not have done so previously
(XVIII) or intend to stay in The Veil’s domain for more than one weeks time.

- Fae are the oldest creatures within the entire Society. They came with the earth when it was
created. They work with the decay and growth of the world in equal balance. None shall trump
the other. These two classes are called Seelie and Unseelie. While they both fight to rise bother
the other, they have failed in doing so. Why is unknown much like other things such as how
they came to be. Stories are passed down from mother to daughter, being a matriarchal
society. So, as expected, things have become fuzzy.
Seelie manly work with the earth. They maintain the ability to grow in the blink of an eye.
They draw power from the earth and the water. The wind and the sky. Their power can manifest
in different ways, including mostly elemental powers such as lightning, wind, and water. They
cannot create these powers. They need a earth to create a rock. They need a slight breeze
to control the wind. They need water near to control its powers. Not much in either category.
Once a small bit is obtained, the fairy may enlarge the amount. Seelie Fae have one major
elemental power, and one minor elemental power.
There are some things that set seelie and unseelie apart. One of those are there gifts. If you
assist a seelie fae, they will assist you back. They will help you in some form or fashion.
They never forget a kindness done to them. Seelie believe in death before dishonor. Honor is
important within their court. Unlike them, the Unseelie, believe that honor is just a fairytale. It
has no place in a cruel world such as this.
Like vampyres, their physical appearance is very beautiful. Fae believe in beauty, no matter
the court.
Unseelie believe in change. They love change. They can easily move with the sways and
movements beneath them. Now, Unseelie aren't necessarily bad creatures. With life, there
must be death. With growth, there must be decay. They are the yang to the Seelie's yin. In
Unseelie's opinion, they feel as though the Seelie live in a world that is unrealistic. They walk
on sunshine when there is none.
Their power is much more ferocious, as they feel they had to adapt to the fearsome world.
They control powers such as lightning, shadow, fire, even some stronger ones control death.
Like the Seelie, the Unseelie can only choose one major power, and one minor power.
Both fae courts match up to djinn in power without a master. Whereas Djinn have hits that
are massive in power, fae have quicker, smaller attacks. However, after all is said and done,
they are quite a match if ever met in combat.
- Djinn are made of a smokeless and "scorching fire", but also physical in
nature, being able to interact physically with people and objects and likewise be acted upon.
Djinn are primarily solitary creatures, preferring to travel alone or within small groups. Most
Djinn ascribe to a nomadic way of life, never staying in one place for too long. In their truest
forms, they are spirits of fire and flame, but cloak themselves in a human skin. While the
Djinn will drink blood from other creatures, their main source of sustenance is devouring the
hearts of others. Devouring hearts makes Djinn stronger and healthier. The only way for them
to devour hearts is the art of making pacts: the Djinn will grant three wishes, and in turn they
can eat the person’s heart.
The Djinn’s magic makes them as powerful as the Fae, but their strengths also pose
challenges. When a Djinn has a master their power is more potent and universal, because
they have to grant specific wishes. In other words, a Djinn has the power to do anything, but
only when the master asks of it. However, there are three basic rules: a Djinn cannot kill for
their master, a Djinn cannot bring creatures back from the dead, and a Djinn can not make
someone fall in love.
If a Djinn does not have a master their power is more limited. Unlike Fae, Djinn’s magic is
not based in elemental magic. While they can control fire, at the risk of diminishing their own
fire; most of their magical abilities come from the psychokinetic realm. For the sake of the RP,
Djinn characters can only pick two of these powers: telekinesis, teleportation, mind-reading,
transmutation, phasing through matter, shapeshifting, invisibility, and compulsion. Like all
magical abilities they must be practiced, in order to be tuned. Djinn are also immortal, but far
from invincible. A silver knife dipped in ram's blood, can kill a Djinn if stabbed in the heart. Also
a weapon made from iron and ash will deteriorate a Djinn's human skin.
The weakness of the Djinn comes from its lamp. Contrary to popular belief, if another
creature gets a hold of a Djinn’s lamp they are granted unlimited wishes without any
negative repercussion.
Djinn also have a hierarchy depending on what color their flame is. Blue Djinn are older,
intelligent djinn, that are often ambivalent about humans. Yellow Djinn are leaders of families
and small clans. They are less powerful than blue but more powerful than green. Green
Djinn are young and immature, and are often playful and mischievous. Black Djinn are
powerful djinn, thought to be kings. Red Djinn are hostile and aggressive.
Vampyres in The Veil are truly stuck in the middle. During the Ancient wars their might
proved strong enough to defeat the werewolves, but did not allow them to defeat the more
organized Fae. Once rebellion stopped and negotiations started, the Vampyres decided to
throw their lot in with the Fae—and for that they were rewarded. Vampyres were given more
comfortable lives in the human world, and were given better jobs within The Veil.
They are creatures steeped in tradition. Due to this, many of the older ways have stuck.
Unlike the primarily matriarchal Fae, Vampyres are patriarchal. This does not mean women
are frowned upon and treated as lesser beings, but men have more advantages within the
society. Many of the higher positions are also given to men.
Vampyres, due to their talents of persuasion and stealth, have easily found jobs as
ambassadors, assassins, spies, and diplomats. The Fae use them to quell any werewolf
rebellions or calm any threats toward the state.
All vampyres primarily have the same powers: glamour, speed, strength, heightened senses,
and memory alteration. However, they also have a myriad of weaknesses: the sun, wooden
stakes, silver, dead blood, holy water, and decapitation. Additionally, the older a vampyre is
the more powerful they can become, and the less susceptible they are to traditional
weaknesses. Vampyres are stronger and faster than werewolves in their human form.
There are many among the vampyre who grow dissatisfied with the way of the Fae and their
dominion. Some want the way of the Ancients, where every race was perceived as equal,
while others want the power of the Fae completely subjugated.
Daylight Amulets are a way for Fae to help keep Vampyre dissent at a minimum. They are
told that if they are loyal to Fae that they all will eventually walk in the sun. So far, only a small
favored few have daylight amulets. When we talk about appearance for vampyres, we mean
two fangs that appear when feeding and look generally normal. They look like another
human.
- Werewolves out of all of the classes are the more aggressive of the supernatural creatures
within the society. They also stay in packs, due to the fact it's much safer for them to do so
and the pack gains strength while with others. Within the packs, they have their own hierarchy.
There is the leader with their mate at the top. Then further down the pyramid there are the
elders, the hunters, the scouts, and then those who do not do much which usually consist
of children. It is not permitted for a werewolf to do nothing within their pack. Leaders make the
decisions. Elders assist in decision making as well as sharing any knowledge they may have.
Hunters protect the pack, and lastly scouts gather things for the pack. "Things" can be
anything from food, information, and informing the hunters of anything that threatens the pack.
They are also fiercely loyal creatures. They will stand by each other's side until death. They
are very physically strong and due to this, they mainly take jobs within the manual labor
market. Some construction jobs can have a staff completely composed of werewolves.
Werewolves are the species that decided to revolt against the Society. This is due to their
class rank. Werewolves, even the leader of a pack, still rank at the bottom within this class
system. This is due, in part, because of their aggressiveness nearing the full moon and the
fact they have no control over the man-beast inside them during the change. Fae demand that
werewolves change outside city limits during their transformations. Due to their immense
strength during transformations, the Fae demand that each werewolf wear an amulet to lessen
their strength and speed.
In their human from werewolves have superior speed and strength, but are not faster and
stronger than vampyres. However in their beast form, and without an amulet, they are the
quickest and strongest creatures within The Veil.
- Humans are the makeup and the backbone of all urban society. Ancient manuscripts pointed
to a time where humans knew of other creatures’ existence. However, as time grew, prejudices’
deepened, and supernatural creatures went into hiding, stories of fantastical beings faded into
myth.
Supernatural creatures have learned to hide in plain sight so well, that most humans do not
know of the impending tensions and battles that are about to happen. Some humans are
used for sport by the supernatural, using them only for nourishment or play. A small minority
of humans know of the existence of The Veil and its inhabitants, and those that do seek to
destroy them. These humans are part of a skilled bounty hunter guild known as The Shield.
However, most humans are completely clueless when it comes to the existence of other
beings. And perhaps a few lucky or unlucky ones may be able to see past The Veil.
