Early in the year 2011, Russia and Iraq formed a secret treaty. That treaty would be the beginning of the soon-to-be-called “Cataclysm”. Their actions would define Humanity’s pathway into the future. They would destroy everything.

The new pact saw to the silent re-armament of a new, one-of-a-kind nuclear armament, nicknamed “Big Ben”, in respect to one factor. Its target location. Grovenvich was born.

The research of this brand-new nuclear weapon took up until the beginning of 2012 – the year of the Olympic Games. The date of the Games was closing fast as the rapid construction – with no testing beforehand – of the armament began. They intended to strike London, the home of the Olympic Games, and kill countless innocents.

As 29th August 2012 dawned, the base inside Iraq was buzzing with activity. Big Ben was due to be launched. The bomb would soon leave for its target at a top speed of 2,500 mph. As the games started, Big Ben was launched. It took several hours to get to its target location. That was the plan, at least. Mid-flight, as it entered the atmosphere just before the English Channel, the plating that held the nuke together began to break up.
The radiation released into the atmosphere, and began to escape through the ozone layer – and this had a disastrous consequence. The ozone layer began to open viciously, and eventually a hole the size of Russia, Iraq and the USA combined was formed. This let in a huge amount of UV light, killing many who were out in the sun. The casualty amount, so far, has reached over 8.9 million people across the globe. War broke out between Grovenvich and the world. Grovenvich, over the years, had gained an army 34.5 million strong, and was looking to fight back. Their arsenal involved Naval, Air and Land units. They were, seemingly, unstoppable.

__________________________________________________________________

In light of the threat from Grovenvich, the UK and USA paired up their military and their scientists to activate a long-standing project that has been in development since 1987. Operation MIA was now active. Five cyborg-like individuals awoke in a laboratory underneath London, with no recollection of themselves or the world before now. No memories, no emotions. The MIA’s knew nothing. Knew nothing of pain, love or grievance. They were blind to the world and its problems.

The MIA’s had a human exterior, but half-machine interior. They were trained for the next few months underground, hidden away from the world. They were taught to kill first and ask questions later. When they were deactivated for rest, small programs and anomalies had begun to stir in the very core – the brain and heart. The brain followed its programs; the heart was torn between humanity and its program. Which was true? Grovenvich had infiltrated the project but knew no details, and they placed two of their best agents in to gather the information they needed. Meanwhile, the new MIA units were assigned with a person that had been taught how to teach the MIA units they were assigned to how to behave and what to do. They were to be their friend, mentor and guardian until they were ready.

This story follows these individuals as they attempt to save mankind, the want for the war to end and as the MIA units try to find out why they were made, why they were activated. Most of all:

She is very aware of the war now and Leonard has told her of her powers and what she can do. As for Olivia’s personality she is very wary of others but has a kind heart. She is not always used to human life and has problems grasping reality. She is very curious to know why she is on earth and what her past was like. Olivia can come over as very innocent at first, due to her looks but is very concentrated and intellectual when she wants to be. She feels especially close to Leonard who has been with her ever since she woke up from the deep sleep.Olivia needs to learn all of human emotions again and does not quite understand things like ‘love’ or trust and during this story she will build her own personality and become more human.

The sun rose on the horizon as a new day dawned. A man stirred in his bed in the underground bunker, having been woken by a familiar - and annoying - beeping from his alarm.
"Alright...alright... Damned thing."
The man slammed his hand onto the alarm, silencing it. He got up, washed and dressed and had his breakfast. Checking his watch, he saw that there was another 10 minute to go until the MIA's were awakened again. Standing after disposing of his food remains - an apple core and some bread crusts - he left to head to the MIA chamber. The majority of the facility was awake by now, and only the MIA's were still sleeping.
"Approaching restricted area. Please state name and serial."
He looked up to the camera that was facing him.
"Leonard Highwind, MIA aider. Serial number 117."
A bleep confirmed his entry as the computer enabled him access. Leonard entered into the laboratory that the MIA's slept in.
"Olivia, time to get up."
He said as he approached her sleeping body, ensuring she woke up.

Olivia was dreaming; she was sure of that. It was quite common for MIA’s to dream and this time what Olivia was experiencing was a nightmare. Her mind felt almost cloudy even though half of her thinking was in numbers. In her dream she had opened her eyes to find herself in the middle of barren landscape. It was empty all for a few bare trees and birds flying above. The hot desert sun beat down on her and the ground was dusty. She had found herself in the dream dressed in her full combat outfit, complete with her katana on her back. The air in the distance looked like it was coming up from the ground in waves and even though she wasn’t able to feel the full extent of the heat she could tell it was above ninety degrees Celsius. She walked slowly across the landscape, her waste length black hair loose and blowing in the humid breeze. She spotted something in the distance and quickened her step. Whatever it was would probably have died out here due to the extreme heat. The metallic parts inside her would soon heat up and that concerned her. Still, inside the dream Olivia kept on running toward the spot in the distance.

The run seemed like it took forever and inside her dream it was almost like she was running away from the speck in the distance. As she got closer she saw what it was, it was a body. Crumpled and lifeless if it was still unmistakably a human body and it was someone that Olivia knew. Indeed, it was Leonard’s lifeless body on the dry, cracked ground. Olivia crouched down beside him, unsure what to do. What was she supposed to do in this situation? She could not cry and she could not speak. Leonard’s face was perfectly still and just like she remembered it. Suddenly Olivia looked up when within the dream she heard a large explosion in the distance. The force of the explosion threw her back and she spotted the mushroom shape cloud in the distance. Who could be out here in the distance and why was Leonard lying so still? How could he die, what happens to human? They live forever, right? Olivia was still new to the human world and did not understand all the concepts.

A voice spoke through her dream; it was like an omnipresent voice echoing inside her head. It was comforting, business like voice and it made her feel almost relieved. ”Olivia, time to get up.” Still, Olivia felt like she was trapped in this dream while the voice echoed in her head. She breathed in deeply for a second before she opened her eyes and thought, almost smiling, ”It was all just a dream,” Opening her eyes Olivia found herself lying in the usual lab room that she slept in. Cold, chrome floors and white walls greeted her. She could hear Leonard’s voice calling her to get up and as if like clockwork she sat up quickly, shaking back her waste length coal-black hair. She said in her a very musical tone, ”Good Morning Doctor Leonard.” She was sitting on the side of the chrome table she slept on. She wasn’t going to tell him about her dream as she felt that it was unimportant.

Olivia’s voice was childish and very sweet. The unnerving thing about it was that it had a slightly robotic tone. She mimicked the sentence that she said most mornings in a polite and sweet tone. ”Did you sleep well Dr. Leonard?” Olivia was a girl with Metallic heart and everyday emotions did not come easily to her and she had learnt so much from Leonard about feelings and emotions. When she had woken up a cyborg to achieve the purpose of fighting she had been clueless of even normal things. She was amazed by how much these humans ate and how fragile their feelings were.
”What are we doing today Dr. Leonard?”
Leonard grinned.
"Enough of the "Doctor" Olivia, remember how many times I told you?"
He said, chuckling with a mimicked-stern voice.
"I slept very well thank you. How did you sleep?"
He asked, checking her vitals.
"Today we'll be testing your aim in target practice, and we may have a few new members join our team from outside. They're said to be the best in their fields, but for now all we are doing is focusing on improving your reaction speed and accuracy. You still have a bit to go on."
He paused as an abnomrality appeared.
"Dreaming?... Impossible, shes half robot."
He cleared the anomaly as false and turned back to her.
"Alright, we'll need to get you washed and into another outfit. Can you remember how to do those things? After, we'll be eating breakfast. You may be as you are, but you are still required to take in supplements."
He said, smiling.
"Now, come, lets get you washed and changed."
He said, leading the way to her own private cubicle.
"Can you remember how? If not, I'll have the nurse come and help you as well."
He said, standing beside the door.

[ this repetitive polyrhythm, this beat is compromised entirely of love. ]

Olivia smiled as he told her not to call him ‘Doctor’. At first she was a little confused, after all ‘Doctor Leonard Highwind’ was what was written on the door of his office. Olivia pursed her lips slightly and said in a tone which would be described as ‘thinking out loud’. ”Leonard, Leonard, Doctor Leonard. No.” The shook her head as she repeated his name and managed to add the doctor honorific on the beginning. She didn’t want Leonard to be at all angry with her as her duty was to serve the human race, however painful or hard it was to do. She had to complete that task that she had been designed for or at least die trying. Rocking backwards and forwards on the balls of her feet she repeated more confidently now, ”Leonard, Leonard, Leonard.” She suddenly looked up, keeping complete eye contact with him, her green eyes sparkling in the light of discovering this new information. It was remarkably difficult for Olivia to actually use his name on its own because to her it was just like learning a completely new name and completely new codes. ”See, I’ve under stood it now.” She smiled at him but it was a little half hearted. She was still discovering his smiling thing, and it felt a little odd.

”Oh, I slept very well thank you.” She attempted to lie; it didn’t completely work as she was mainly concentrating on using ‘thank you’ at the end of her sentence. The memory of the dream lingered in her mind and seemed to hold her mind. She thought about it and then brushed it away as a figment of her imagination. It was quite new for Olivia to be remembering things after her memory was wiped from becoming a cyborg. That’s what they did to all humans when they became a cyborg because it was the only humane thing to do. The pain of becoming a cyborg is indescribable, just imagine having your heart ripped out of your chest and replaced with metal. The negative side effect of having the pain wiped away is that it wiped away all Olivia’s memories of the past. She had no idea where she came from and where she was originally from. Olivia wasn’t even her original name and she had had a completely different identity and personality.

”Target practice? Oh, okay then.” Olivia said in response to Leonard’s plan for the day. They would be meeting outside to meet various other scientists and their MIA’s to practice fighting techniques together. It was usually quite fun and all the different cyborgs were at different levels of maturity. There was one thing that they had in common though; they were all extremely talented and special fighters. ”We’ll get to see the other MIA’s right.” She smiled at him again and it brought sunshine to her face. After she had become a cyborg her cheeks were almost hollowed and she constantly looked frightened, but now under the care of Leonard she looked a lot happier as if the world was on her side. Olivia always excelled at accuracy when she was training with other MIA’s, she could almost always hit a target and her speed was unnaturally fast, even for an MIA. Oliva never really noticed her talents and did not understand them. They were just there at will and they weren’t for her own use anyway, they were for the use of humanity so it could fight this war.

”Mmm, breakfast. I’m okay with that Doc- I mean Leonard.” She said as from behind the door as a nurse picked her up with ease as if she was made of nothing at all (despite that fact that she was mainly metal) and placed her in the cubicle. ”No, I think I’ll be fine dressing today. Thank you,” The dressing and washing process had now become routine and she got dressed in her two piece battle clothing. Once she was dressed she called for the nurse who combed through her perfect dark hair, tying it at one side in a blood red ribbon which matched the battle clothing. It seemed like all the nurses had shined to Olivia and seemed happy to look after her. The blonde haired nursed chatted avidly to Olivia and Olivia noted the emotions that the nurse possessed and the things she was saying. When the nurse was finished combing her hair Olivia spoke and said in her musical voice, ”Thank you Miss. Angela, very much.” The nurse, Angela beamed back at her and Olivia exited the cubicle.

Olivia faced Leonard, now dressed. She looked absolutely perfect with every hair in place. Then again Olivia always tended to look perfect.
”I’m finished Leonard.”
He chuckled as she began to override her memory banks and place that new rule in.
"I must find a way to make it easier for you to store information, you're trying too hard. And yes, the other MIA units will be there. You can have friendly practice with them, but remember they are like you. But, unlike them, you're special."
He said, smiling. As she washed and changed, and eventually coming out, he watched how fluid her movements were, and how radiant she looked... Wait, was he thinking that?

Shaking it from his head, he smiled.
"Excellent, you did wonderfully as always Angela. Can you see that the Director has recieved my e-mail please? I need his approval on a new caliborator for the MIA's."
Recieving a nod from Angela, she left to carry out that duty.
"My, my. Olivia, you look radiant as always. Come, lets go get some breakfast. I've already had mine, but feel free to choose whichever is on the menu. I want to see how your body will cope with the various foods we have available, and no lasting damage will occur. I trust that the food information was processed into your memory banks last night? This is what I had them processed for."
He said, smiling as they headed for the MIA's eating room. They were kept seperate to the other personel as, quoting one man, they 'freaked everyone out'. Leonard didn't care - MIA or not, under that shell was a human.
"I would like to see you beat your personal best Olivia when it comes to the target practice. 50 targets in thirty-two seconds, wasn't it? I'd like to see you beat that."
He said as they entered the dining hall. A menu was placed in front of Olivia to choose from the food.
"Just take your pick and let the chef know, and he'll whip it up for you."
He said, grabbing a small drink for Olivia and himself. He chose a small glass of orange, but Olivia normally had something else - he just couldn't remember what it was, but it was there in front of her.
"And Olivia, you seem as though you can't quite grasp the technique to smiling. Would you like me to explain again the methods and working behind it?"
He asked, looking towards her as he took a sip of his drink. His pager beeped and he quickly checked it before disregarding it and placed it back into his pocket before turning back to her.
"Seems the other MIA units will be waking up shortly."
He said, wondering if he'd need to explain the workings of smiling again.

Chaos wandered around through the halls while a few doctors went after her with a headband to put her hair up. Chaos' dark purple hair was covering her eyes and face so the doctors were trying to get her to keep her hair out of her eyes. She growled, hugging her stuffed cat closer to her chest. A newcomer nurse took the headband from the man who held it and ran to Chaos. She was about to place the head band over Chaos' head, mumbling, 'Stupid trouble child'.
Right as Chaos heard that, with just a few movements of her arm and feet, Chaos swung her scythe around so that the scythe was completely surrounding the woman's neck. Chaos looked up at her with her piercing black eyes. She moved her scythe so that the sharp blade was cutting through the woman's skin and causing her to bleed. "Go away." She removed her scythe as the woman nodded and was frozen from fear. Chaos slipped her scythe back into it's strap and walked on, looking around for one of the doctors that she knew very well and one that she liked. She felt something like boredom or that she didn't know what to do right now.

Leonard checked his pager as it bleeped.
"Aw, man... I'll be right back, a MIA unit has woken up and nobody saw to her, and shes now harming doctors. I'll be right back Olivia, just order and tell the waitress - she'll teach you how if she needs to."
Leonard drained the last of his drink quickly before getting up and hurrying out.

He checked room after room and eventually found the troublesome MIA unit - Chaos.
"Awake already, Chaos?"
He said, coming up behind her. He'd read her profile and knew her tricks, so he was ready for them.
"You nearly killed one of the nurses. Why was that?"
He asked, stepping up beside her.
User Image
Chaos looked up at the man and continued to look expressionless. "She was bothering me." She continued to walk around, looking for her favorite doctor. As long as the man didn't touch her, Chaos wouldn't hurt him, unlike the other woman. She hugged her huge stuffed cat closer and looked behind her to see a bunch of doctors still trying to get someone to put the headband on her.
She spotted the doctor she was looking for and walked into the room. Chaos went over and tugged on the man's sleeve. "Doctor..." Chaos looked around to see other people who moved back from her. Chaos tilted her head, then turned back to face the doctor. The man squat down so that he was on the same eye level as she was and patted her head. 'I'm a bit busy now. I'll play with you later, okay?'
Chaos dropped her head in disappointment, then nodded. She turned around to head back to her room, looking down at the ground.

User Image
Leonard frowned as he watched.
"Doctor...whatever your name is, go and play with her."
He said after Chaos had left the room.
"Your work can wait. Your MIA can't. I should know, because I'm attached to Olivia."
He said, knowing full well that Olivia was known among the scientists for her accuracy.
"So, go and help her. She's gonna need it."
He said, stopping whatever he was doing. He wouldn't get punished, but he'd just be groaned at by the chief more than likely.
