Welcome! This is a freeform adventure-based fantasy setting where the goal is to create a great big playground for us all to... Well, play in. More explanation will follow below, along with rules and such. To summarize, there are some basic things about how magic in the setting works and what isn't allowed, but other than that we will all actively add to and develop the world as we go. Basically, anyone who submits a character will also be required to add something to the world along with that character. Whether it be a kingdom, tribe, city-state, notable bit of history, or even a small village, something new must be added to the world when you submit a character. There will be a separate "profile" of sorts for your bit of lore, which you can fill out. It can be as simple or complicated as you make it.

While the intention is to allow the setting to be developed through group effort, there are a few things I'm setting up from the get-go. There are elements of the world that will effect everyone equally, not just mine own characters, and when making a character you have to keep these things in mind. If you ignore anything on this list, I can't accept you. There has to be some consistency, after all.

Magic: First thing is magic. Magic in this setting is not scholarly or arcane by nature, but rather based on a sort of Lovecraftian system. Basically, the forces that control "magic" in this world are not only sentient and aware, but also actively malevolent. Whenever you use magic, you are drawing the attentions of otherworldly entities who are actively attempting to make you have a bad day. Magic in this is a primal, volatile force, and you cannot simply cast lightning bolts or form energy shields whenever you want. Good examples of acceptable forms of magic would be a warrior who sacrificed his humanity to gain demonic strength and longevity (you would also have to make him rather, well, demonic, no pretty-boy demon princes in this). Another good example would be someone having possessed armor that they can't remove, or a book of necromancy such as the Necronomicon which has its own can of worms. There is a lot of creativity encouraged here, just keep in mind the general idea.

Rule of Five: The "villains" of this world are hopefully going to be player characters, but there is another group of baddies who stand head over heel above any other evil force in the setting. These are the Old Gods of Tyrsia (a mythical continent), also known as the Children of Gaia. They are a group of five spirits, represented respectively by a Bear, a Crow, a Wolf, an Owl, and a Stag. They are dark gods, actively opposed to the mortal races and constantly seeking the downfall of civilization. They are not all powerful, more like malevolent ghosts capable of subtly influencing the world, pushing things to an end-goal no one will be happy about. Only a few know of their existence, most seeing them as a mere legend, an old story meant to scare children.

Door to Fate: A mythical phenomenon, the physical manifestation of a Will so ancient it belies belief. The Door to Fate appears before those who have garnered the attention of powers greater than themselves. If one chooses to go through the door, they accept a pre-ordained destiny, gaining the power to change the world in some significant way forever.

Note that these particular bits of lore, that being the Tyrsian Gods and the Door to Fate, are controlled by me. Basically, when certain events occur (I won't say particularly what), someone garners my attention in a special way, or things reach a real head in the plot, I may cause either the Five or the Door to appear and twist the plot in a new direction. These things happening are not necessarily bad, simply serving as a set of plot devices to scramble things up a bit.

Here are some rules I'd like everyone to adhere to. Nothing major, just the basic stuff so that everyone is on the same page.


◢ xx RULE: 001
No God-modding, of course. I trust everyone to be fair. Be polite to everyone. If your character is a jerk or has a reason to be a jerk to a certain person, that is realistic and sensible, but you can still treat everyone nicely in the OOC. Be fair guys, and don't spoil other people's fun. Cussing and Violence... Keep it PG-13. Nuff' Said. Romance is OK, but... Don't make it weird. That's all I ask.

The lore in this world, besides what I've already stated, is down to group effort. You MUST contribute something to the world, even it it's small or seemingly unimportant, to be accepted. Besides what is given to me along with characters, we are going with Rule of Establishment. Know what has been contributed and don't refute what other people have created, it makes me think you aren't paying attention. That makes me sad. I dislike sadness in general, unless it's a character's sadness. Then it is entertainment. If something about the setting is unclear feel free to ask me, and if you want to develop something more such as magic or the setting's lore feel free to discuss with everyone else in the OOC. Further development of this setting should be a collaborative effort!

Be ambitious! Create your own stories! Be a big bad villain that everyone else is scared of, or a great hero who forms your own kingdom and completely alters the politics of the world. I've given you guys a world to play in, and in case ya'll didn't know worlds are freakin big!.

◢ xx RULE: 004
Please give some basic info as to where your character is and who they are talking to in each post. Don't need to quote people, just say "With: ____ or "Talking to _____" and we'll get the picture. Please don't make your character art huge in your posts. It can be big, but it shouldn't completely overshadow your text. Pictures ARE REQUIRED, it makes it so much easier to know who is talking at a quick glance and it looks nicer. If you can't find character art I'm sure either myself or someone else can help you. I'm fine with any style of picture save for live photos.

Original characters only! Do not post one liners, but I also prefer people not write up huge posts unless something really important is happening or it is your introductory scene. I prefer quality over quantity, and during action scenes or even dialogue it is often better to write shorter posts and keep things moving, we can get through stuff way quicker that way. Just make sure people have something to respond to.

For each Arc of the story, the content of which will be determined collaboratively, there will be one major villain or Big Bad. This Big Bad is the only character besides my own who is allowed to god-mod just a teeny bit and be a tad more powerful than everyone else, but whoever plays the main villains should also be fair and not try and show up everyone else, your job is to create a difficult conflict not be the coolest guy in the room. If no main villains are submitted to me for an arc, I'll come up with one myself.

Communicate with each other! Don't be strangers, and your characters don't need to be strangers either. If you have problems with how things are being done, LET US KNOW, DON'T JUST QUIT. I've missed out on so many potentially wonderful RP's because something happened that people didn't like and they just spontaneously quit, WE CAN FIX PROBLEMS IF THEY ARE BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION, if we don't know something is wrong we can't fix it! That is all there is to it. Title lore segments with "World-Builder" and full profiles with "Adventure Time" to let me know you at least skim-read this. Feel free to PM me with questions or concerns. I'm a nice guy. Honest...

When making a character, claim one of these roles to fill in the world. This will give each character a unique role in the world, and of course each role is open to interpretation. Don't worry about telling me in your profile, but PM me with the role you wish to claim and I will take care of the rest when your profile has been submitted. If none of these appeal to you, they are not set in stone. One can be altered or a new one added if needed, these are just to help me plan some general plot stuff behind the scenes. If you can't decide, then go ahead and submit a character, and we can always figure out a role afterward.
