XXXXXXXIt's been quite some time since Alice has been to Wonderland. In fact, she's almost quite forgotten about it. Regardless, there had been a time in her distant childhood when she had had that innocuous gift of creation, and had spun a strange and beautiful world from her mind, a world that could be found, rather awkwardly, down a rabbit hole. The rabbit hole of the one and only White Rabbit, whom she'd followed, dashing after the rodent as he stumbled over his feet, nervously glancing at a pocket-watch and muttering under his breath, "I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date." We all know how the story went. At long last, Alice defeated the pompous and pernicious Red Queen of Hearts, and was free to return home, shortly after which she came to terms with the realization that her land of wonder had only been a dream.
XXXXXXXHowever, her persistent dream was not about to leave her alone. She made a second journey into its mysterious depths through a Looking Glass, and, again, returned home quite unharmed and much the wiser (and perhaps less the saner). But, after her second departure from Wonderland, the tides began to change. The magical Looking Glass that had been such a help giving Alice reliable transportation to and from Wonderland held a very dark secret. Before the little girl had ever stepped into her dream or caught sight of the telltale fluff of white fur and glint of pocket-watch, before the Red Queen's reign, ruled a crueler, mightier, and more eternal queen--the Black Queen of Spades, the poison in any card deck. Her incumbency was long and terrible, but, after centuries of bitter suffering, the creatures of Wonderland, led by the Queen of Hearts, banished her into a sheet of glass, which reflected the world and gave Alice passage into Wonderland. The Queen of Hearts, as we know, grew power-hungry and self-serving over time, eventually coming to power, only to be vanquished by the creator of this splendid world.
XXXXXXXYet, the Queen of Spades remained trapped in the glass of the mirror, dormant and harmless. . .until--
XXXXXXXAlice, very unintentionally, broke it.
XXXXXXXSuddenly, the Black Queen was released. She tore through Wonderland, corrupting every honest, child-like creation of Alice's. The creatures of the young girl's dreams--even the Cheshire Cat, her very own imaginary friend--went into hiding, if they had been lucky enough to survive beyond the first rush of fury from the nefarious Black Queen. It's high time for Alice's third and final journey into the shattered world of her imagination--to discover, to reinvent, and to rescue.
