In Latin it is called, "draconigena". An Old World term that translations tell us means, "dragon-born" But it is a dying language, and like the language, those who are dragon-born are dying as well...There are few alive who know the old tales, but these tales I will tell you. Be wise. Be cautious. Be silent. For there are those among us still who do not want the old stories spoken...Once, long ago, when man and woman were first born, and the garden Eden still bloomed beautiful and fruitful, there was a serpent, Vipera, Colubra, Serpens; all names for the same creature born of fire and holy righteousness. One of God's children. But it was forsaken, forever as the forbidden child. The forgotten and forgone. Fallen. Destined to guard the apple of Eve's sparkling eye, the serpent paid a heavier price than perhaps all of mankind, that fateful day. A cruel curse was laid upon it that day. It would be burned to death. And in the fires of heaven it would be reborn into the body of a man. This body would have extraordinary talents, strength, speed, and animal reflexes and instinct…But the lusting fire that dwelt within the serpent's body was destined to consume him and fulfill the curse's prophecy. Seven, seven. Seventy-seven years from the moment of birth, the draconigena would die a painful death.
Generation, after generation of dragon-born perished to this curse. Grief overcame the draconigena, and an unlikely savior moved to the forefront. Lucifer, the fallen angel himself came to the aid of the dragon-race. Striking a deal with the Almighty, Lucifer created a loophole. The Devil slashed the lives of the draconigena. For when God made his own children, Adam, and Eve, he created them as two pieces of the same whole. Therefore, for the draconigena; seventy-seven years to live was cut in half, leaving the dragons with only thirty five and a half, before their curse was fulfilled and they died a gruesome death…What did The Devil do with half of the draconigena’s lifespan? In a parody of God’s work, Lucifer devised a way in which the dragon-born could earn back the right to live a full life.
Every time a draconigena is born, so too does a mortal come into the world. The same day, the same time. And the same amount of years to live. Only thirty-five and a half years do these two have to find one another. Because like Adam and Eve, the dragon-born and his mate are two halves of the same whole. They complete one another, and through their joining is created the most powerful of forces that even God himself has not the power to destroy: True Love.
The mortals do not know of this prophecy and live quiet lives steeped in normalcy. But the draconigena are trained from the moment of their birth to search for their mate so they may triumph over their curse and live on. Scattered to the corners of the earth, the dragons and their mates must break the rules of chance, luck, and probability and find their mate…or die, trying.
Lucifer, seeing the terrible odds of a dragon discovering his mate before it was too late, sent his personal angel down to earth in order to help the dragon-born find True Love, gifted with certain powers, she aids them as much as she is allowed. God, also, sent down an angel, an angel meant to stop the draconigena from finding their mates and negating the curse…
Let the battle…begin.
