COMMENTS: Nice choices here, especially the armmod. It's stance isn't the same, but it's in the exact same ballpark so smart choice there. I do not like the bow choice because of its awkward layering with the horns, so you lost a couple points for construction.
COMMENTS: Focusing on emulating the construction of the avatar while incorporating an alternative style/aesthetic is quite a feat. The coat choice falls little short on body language.
COMMENTS: The armmod choice on this works well and really carries the emulation, I think. I am not huge on some of the head choices like using the same horns or the fish pin. I think you went with focusing on the skull on the original's hairbow, but the fishbone alone looks really divergent.
COMMENTS: I think this just falls short when it comes to the "making it your own" aspect of emulating. I am also having mixed feelings on the armmod because you're relying on it to represent both the large swathy fabric and the arm pose. It's an interesting choice, but sometimes interesting choices illicit mixed responses.

COMMENTS: completion and appeal are good but personally orange isn't my favorite color
COMMENTS: simple and pretty, I like that you have chose colors opposite of the emulation, light and dark, but with how much color there are in one area it doesn't look appealing to me but it cannot be helped
COMMENTS: very very lovely, I find this very appealing and I think it surpasses the original but seeing that the same leg mod recolor was used is kinda disappointing

COMMENTS: I think this did a good job mirroring the original, but it feels way too transliterated for my taste. Yes, Gloom Bloom's style is inherently more simple, but your final product comes off as a little too stale.
COMMENTS: I see what you were getting at, and there are pieces and elements that work well, but I think the deviation in color scheme and distribution really threw you off. If the hair was a different color entirely, and the shoes were neutral, maybe.
COMMENTS: Solid attention to detail and balance in a way that calls back to the original. Would've loved to see you tackle one of the other options though; I challenge you to push yourself a little more in the rounds to come.
COMMENTS: I think this did a great job encapsulating a lot of the style and flow of the original. Would have maybe loved to see this take on some of the cooler layering from the original, but it's definitely one of the more solid entries, all-around.

COMMENTS: this seems good but I wish you were more around asking for suggestions because it seems too similar. It lacks of your touches, which I guess you couldn't work because you were busy. Optimize your time! because you won't win like that.

COMMENTS: Did well to make them "match," but it doesn't really feel like an emulation? It almost seems like a knockoff recolor of the avi; similar poses and elements were used, but almost to the point where they matched too well. The variety of colors also falls flat imo; while the original tied in several colors including muted pink, green, offblack, and accents of ivory, the emulation appears mostly orange, black and white. While the skin is a tad grey, it doesn't stand out against the offwhite. There's a loss of interest with the lack of this 4th color. Disregarding the contrast between offblack and offwhite, there is no secondary color to contrast the orange. The original's pink contrasts against the green skin and creates a look of interest, while the emulation falls a bit flat.
COMMENTS: Easily the best entry in my eyes. While the emulation uses similar types of clothing, the character looks unique and can easily stand its own while still belonging in the same world as the original. I love the completely different color pallete use, and the contrast between the orange and blues are a great take on the original's saturated citrus and muted pinks and ivorys. (I will note that the colors are DEFINITELY not what I usually see from bruja, the way the avi is styled fits imo.
Pimpernel Blue: DISCLAIMER: As I am not familiar with paw avis and items, I do not know the extent of what can be changed/what items exist.

COMMENTS: While I can tell it's an emulation, I feel like it's not different enough from the original to seem like a unique twist. Looking just at prominent colors, it feels like the main two elements that were changed were the jacket color and the hair color. The fish skelly is a cute touch to match the bow, but it appears a bit jarring given that the skin is a dull green. While the color blocking is cute, the emulation also lacks the matching of the original avatar and imo, falls short.
COMMENTS: The emulation seems a bit too matchy with the original. *cough legs* The two avis look a bit like twins, but in a way that keeps both unique. The two avis follow similar blocking and detailing patterns, and the emulation also utilizes similar super saturated colors. My main issue is that the face appear a little too similar for an emulation; while I want the two to belong to the same universe, I'd like a bit more distinction between the two.
ADDITIONAL COMMENT FOR EVERYONE:
As one of my fellow judges stated:
Quote:
You could've taken these approaches to have successful entries:
1. Mimic the silhouette/body language of the provided model.
Stick to the basics. Emulate the shape, and simply change the items and article of clothing of your avatar entry. It's like tracing; change the color, style, and other elements, but keep the form.
2. Create your avatar in the same universe as the original.
Make it consistent as if the original and your entry belong in the same universe. You can still apply your own style while aligning it to "Tuni's style" if that makes sense.
3. Use the same items as blueprint.
Yes, use the same items as the original, or recolors of it, BUT treat them as blueprint as you construct your entry. I encourage you to do that so you understand Tuni's process, her layering, item choices, etc. Always consider the source and when you do, it will reflect in your work. That part will be clear to the judges because it will show that your representation took inspiration from the model. In the end, you can replace the copied items as you progress.
I rated according to the above 3 points, with a very heavy focus on point 2, followed closely by 1. I'd like to make a clarification for point 3 for how I rate: while I encourage you to use similar items for the emulation, go further than simply matching the general shape, color, etc. As Mac's entry shows, you can use completely different items and still create an interesting emulation.

choosing gloom bloom is the safest and easiest style to do. it's no surprise that those who chose her will turn out something that is like a blatant safe, borderline item per item twinning avis. which is super disappointing even for the paws. as if didn’t even care to incorporate more! as well as the paw. they are confined to the molded box that they didn't think outside of. they do look ok i just expected more and not the most obvious... i have minimal complaints for both coz there's not much to see.
i don't know why it's a big fuzz to emulate bruja del bloque's avatars, i mean they are not even that great to begin with. both are a heap of mess and disjointed broken bits of clutter hiding on flashing colors, no substance. i guess emulating ugly is really challenging but why emulate the ugly? i am impress by maca's direction on still incorporating more of style but the color choice sucked. the orange is too saturated for the dusty navy blue, complementary clash that doesn't work. organic jello tried and ended up almost copying the whole avatar, why can't you just ask bruja del bloque for her item list on that avatar? in emulation, copying the face is a big no.
overall, it's a nice round, good job still. emulation is complex but not limited to just silhouettes and pose. there are some pointers in the thread that's been shared, i wish it was used.

COMMENTS: You did well emulation the original avatar. Sadly, some of the layering did not translate well. The bow on those horns looks very strange. They look almost like twins with a twist, but more like a brother and a sister.
COMMENTS: By far my favorite of the group. You emulated the original the best this round. Sort of gives a dark to the light vibe. You took their original style and put your own spin on it and it shines.
COMMENTS: For a paw emulating a human base avatar, this is very well done. I am assuming paw items are more lacking and you had to step up with your creativity here. Something about it feels a bit less like the original but I am not sure what isn't coming through so well. The colors perhaps?
COMMENTS: I enjoyed this very much but it almost resembles the original too closely. Like a partial lack of one's own style. I will point out that I was not overly enjoyed by you using the same legs but in a different color. To me, this does not hold true to what emulation is. I think the face is mostly difference but it almost looks like the same items, which could be called a good emulation but it doesn't appeal to me.
ADDITIONAL COMMENT FOR EVERYONE:
"Emulation does not mean using the same item as the item used by the emulating avatar. Please stop this. Emulation not only imitates the style of others, it does not cheese it using the whole motion the avatar has in another color. Please make it creative. We do not run a farm with a cloning machine. Thank you."

COMMENTS: Very smart item choices. Just a very "you" feeling avatar while remaining true to the original. Not generally the style of emulation I go for, but still quality.
COMMENTS: Cute, but rather than looking like an emulation of bruja's outfit... it just looks like another one of bruja's outfits. With As if I even care there is a clear item for item swap, and with Macabeak you can clearly see her style put into the original avatar. But with yours it's too divergent without being divergent enough. Which totally clears things up for you, I am sure.

COMMENTS: I'm bored with this emulation. It doesn't look like there's much of your own spin on it. The stockings and necklace are the only things I like and think were good choices. I hate the way the horns layer on top of the hair bow. The bag looks awkward. That tail is ugly. I'm sorry; I want to like this avi, I want to like everyone's avi, but it feels like it needs a lot more work still, especially to get rid of the awkward layering going on all over the place.
COMMENTS: A great emulation. However, there's some strange layering with the hair and the hat, and I think less starkly white sleeves would have worked better. The eyes aren't quite right. I look at it once and they seem to emulate bruja's feel okay, I look at it again and interpret them as sly, I look again and they've become sassy. While normally I might find this interesting, in the instance of emulation I find it frustrating, as I can't get a good read on the character. But overall, this is an avatar I quite enjoy with some excellent choices. It's the only one this round to impress me.
COMMENTS: You got the right feel for the character, which I applaud, as sometimes that can be the hardest part of emulation. The eyes you chose are great. But that forehead mark is too big. I don't like how bright the fish bone hair bow is, and I don't think it's the best choice for a hair accessory anyway as I can't easily see how it fits the character. It's cute, but it doesn't do much for me and looks like it need more thought behind item choices.
COMMENTS: Look, I'll be honest, you came in second for favoritism only because there were two others I that didn't appeal to my tastes even more, but I don't particularly like this avatar. It's an okay emulation - better than average, but not by much. So much so that I even had to break Tuni's special request, because a full 2 did not feel right, and I'm not inclined to round down. Not yet, anyway. Both the face and accessory choices are decent, and the overall feel is good, but it needs more volume on the lower half. You should have picked a different leg. If a pose on the original avatar is integral and a unique item on Gaia, I could accept a same item or recolor, but when there's an abundance of items that emulate the same look/feel, my tolerance for that goes down; your leg choice isn't original or interesting.

COMMENTS: This score may look harsh, but that's only because all of these entries are so well done. I don't have much to say about this, and that in itself could be bad. This doesn't stand out as well as the others do, seeing as how each are so unique.
COMMENTS: I can spot one of your avis from a mile away. You have this unique style that just stands out ina beautiful way. This is a solid emulation that combines the original and your own style. Nicely done.
COMMENTS: Fuuuuuuuuuuuck, now this is ADORABLE. The best part of this is the hairpin. I don't care if that sounds trivial. It's cute as s**t. No critiques from me on this one. You go girl.
COMMENTS: This is absoltuely beautiful. I can't tell if that's because of teh colors, the pose, or just because the original designer has their s**t together. Why this isn't at the top of the list though is because this doesn't look like an emulation, but an evolution of the first.

COMMENTS: The flow perfectly captures Gloom's avi! Unfortunately the overall appeal of your creation is very low for me. The face is abrasive and the colors are off. Challenge wise, you did amazing! But maybe that's because Glooms avi was on the easier side. I'd love to see you tackle a more "AT" style avi next time!
COMMENTS: Something is lacking for this emulation. The flow isn't right. Still sweet and somber. But the overall isn't there. BUT this avi is CUTE AF. Can't wait to see how you fair in the other rounds!
COMMENTS: Alright, using a paw is totally throwing me. The challenge is real. But you did a really good job with Gloom. It almost feels like a twin on a paw base tho.Keep that in mind. Next time I'd like to see you pick a full avatar, since both your application and this entry were paw. It might be your thing, so you know, jump outside of your comfort zone!
COMMENTS:The emulation is almost spot on, I saw you said it was a WIP and with a little more it would have been perfect! The flow is a little wonky but it has Bruja feel and flow! Great job! Hopefully you'll be able to fully complete an avi for the next round!
COMMENT FOR ERRBODY! - - So, I know a lot of talk has been going around about looking at avi styles and looking into other's galleries. For my personal voting, I am basing fully on the avatar you choose to emulate. Nothing to do with previous style or flow. Also seriously?! No one took on the Susue challenge! I am disappointed in you. No hard feelings Gloom, but those avi's were simple. I want to see you guys challenge your ability! Also thank you Pimpernel for stepping in last minute! You my hero! ♥

COMMENTS: You matched the tone but im just not feeling it ~ the colors on her avatar were way too muted for that orange to be a dominant color. definitely should have looked into her gallery more for this ~ the skin gave a cool contrast that yours doesnt and the layering on the head is whack. same universe and maybe the same gang but not sisters.
COMMENTS: UHHHGG i love the avatar itself but its too far from the original ~ id never guess it was an emulation. if this wasn't an emulation round id rate you higher (that hair sticking out the hat tho girl... why) the colors are way too far from the anything she'd would make as well.
COMMENTS: GOD! I JUST LOVE THIS. this is cohesive with the avatar presented while still using a paw base ~ i honestly gag at this item usage, esp with that arm mod can't wait to see more of you in this competition. only tiny concern is that belt sticking out of the jacket
COMMENTS: would have preferred a bigger jacket instead of that one and you need sparkles !! i think its aesthetically pleasing tho. i was tempted to have you as my favorite but theres too many little inconsistencies ~ it still is rad.
