The Masquerade.

This contest is inspired by masks of all shapes and sizes, colors and styles.
Our goal here is to provide a fun contest, where you will use masks as your inspiration to create beautiful avatars.

This is a more advanced competition, and each avatar you make will be expected to be the best it can be.
Texturized, layered, and each item matched as well as possible.
To do this, you will need to know how to use Dream Free Layering.
Dream Free should be used for every challenge.

Each challenge will be posted Monday morning, as long as all plans are going well. You will have until Thursday night to finish your avatar and PM it to me, then the judges will judge your creation between Friday and Sunday, and send it to me. Judging will be put up Sunday night or Monday morning, and then a new challenge will be put up.

Now, on to the ballroom.

All pictures used on this page were found on DeviantArt or Google, and do not belong to me.

Information

The prize will be 25000 gold to the over all winner, and 10000 to the second place winner.
This money will be coming from my own pocket, and not from the entry fees.

Any disrespect or vile comments made to any other person in this thread will get you a warning. If it happens a second time, you will no longer be able to judge, compete, or hang out here.

If you would like to join this contest, please fill out the below application of your interest, and PM it to me, then send a trade of 2000 gold to this account, if you are applying to be a contestant.
I will accept your trade if you are accepted as a contestant, and I will reject it if you do not make the cut.

You will receive a full refund if you are eliminated from this contest.
However, if you drop out or disappear, you will not receive a refund.

Hi, I'm Shawana! You can call me Shaw, Shawa, or Shawana. I'm sixteen, and I have been doing tektek contests for about a year and a half now. I was one of those old '04-05' ATers, but then I overlooked the AT for a while, until the beginning of last year. I adore complex layering, and texture, well used clutter, and great colors.

Hey, I'm Kiri. I've been tekteking for a couple years, but only recently have I really gotten into it. I'm pretty good at it, though. wink I try to be an objective judge, and have days where I'm really nice with my judging and other days when I'm more strict. If you want to impress me, come up with original, visually pleasing color schemes. Clean layering is always a plus; clutter is okay, as long as it's organized clutter. Also, I don't expect or want lengthy explanations of why you put this and this and this on your avatar. Your work should speak for itself. I hope to be impressed. =)

FINAL CHALLENGE
Above is a collection of Picolitrosso's Urn masks. Each of you has a different colored set, but they are the same masks. Your job is to create a line of avatars which, starting on the left, and ending on the right, become more and more detailed and 'Masquerade-like'. Each avatar in turn should be more beautiful, more appealing to the eye, and more detailed than the last.

You do not have to use the same base or gender for each one.

Don't be afraid to incorporate different colors.


You will have until July 30th, at 11:59 pm PST, to finalize your entries.

I think over all, you did a very good job. You color choices were wonderful, and I like most of the aspects of each avatar. The third one, I have to say, is my least favorite, simply because it doesn't seem quite as elegant as the rest. The last one, I feel is not quite as detailed as the fifth one, but I love it, all the same. Your approach was very creative. : )

The fact that you used so many extra colors impresses me. However, you did lose a little bit of cohesion in doing so, but honestly, I really am happy you used colors besides the mask colors. Avi1: One of my favorites, I love the simplicity and the style. Avi2: Not loving this one as much. It seems very disjointed and mismatched, and also sticks out the most from the rest. Avi3: I like parts of this one, but other parts I don't. You have matching issues with this one as well. Avi4: My other favorite. It's not perfect, but I love the colors and the style. Avi5: Again, love the colors. Not loving the shape, though, and wowmessy. Avi6: Love the colors, again, but I'm not sure how well they flow together; the orange accents seem a little too harsh. Still, I like it.

I love how all of your avatars work together so well. You did an amazing job with your theme. I see some instances where the color balance is a little off, and also, the fifth avatar seems to be a little less detailed, at least in appearance than the fourth. But overall, great job!

I wish you had branched out color-wise just a bit more, but I do like the cohesion you've got here. I also appreciate that you used both genders. Avi1: Very cute! I just wish she had something on her head. Avi2: I don't love this, mostly because it looks more cartoony than the others, but still, not bad. Avi3: My favorite, definitely. Love the pale green accents SO much, and the overall look. Avi4: This one is pretty cool. Wish it had another color, though. Avi5: I enjoy the shape of this one, but I prefer the previous one. Still good, though. Avi6: Actually don't love this one. Some of the layering seems awkward, and I still don't like the head. Not horrible by any means, though.
