Username: Gym Leader Allachka
Character Name: Inori no otome is how people refer to her; her true name is Sveta.
Sex: Female
Race: Half human, half kitsune (Her father is a Kitsune and her mother is a human)
Role: Healer/Shrine Maiden
Backstory:
Sveta is the daughter of a Kitsune and a human. The Kitsune, her father, is a well-known and respected merchant who ended up falling in love with a human woman on the island of Daigon. Her father was excited for his first child, but was disappointed when his wife gave birth to a girl. To make things worse, she was not born with the ears of a fox. Fearing that his reputation would suffer because his daughter only had the characteristic fox tail, and not ears, he sent his daughter to a shrine at an early age so she could become a maiden. He believed that the only way she would be received well by society was if she engaged in a pure and strict lifestyle (the lifestyle of a shrine maiden); having her become a shrine maiden also bolstered his own status.
Sveta took on the name/title Inori no otome because of her life at the shrine. No one except her parents knows her real name (the name Sveta was given to her by her mother). Her mother visits her at the shrine from time to time, but her father never has. It has been 16 years since she has seen her father in person; she is 21 when this story begins.
Sveta figured out at a young age that she was weird for not having a pair of fox ears. To make herself feel more 'normal,' Sveta figured out how to style some of her hair so that it stands up and looks like fox ears. From a distance, many can be fooled by her fake ears (she uses a little bit of 'fox magic' to create the illusion that her 'ears' are real, so humans and other beings with weak control of magic are almost always fooled). As part of her shrine outfit, she wears a rather large headpiece that sits in front of her 'ears.' This also helps her to hide the fact that her fox ears are fake. She still has only a single tail, but she is hopeful that her tail will soon split to allow a second one to grow.
Sveta does not have any friends, and is not permitted to talk much with the people who visit the shrine. She is not permitted to leave the shrine or the grounds; the head priest and his assistant take care of the errands that would require her to leave the shrine's grounds.
The shrine she works at is dedicated to several kami, chiefly among them Shiki and San. Sveta regularly sees humans and other kitsune while she works, and sometimes she sees Oni as well. Though the shrine features Shiki, and kitsune typically embrace the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake, she is only allowed to read books that the head priest brings to the shrine. As such, she can study only 'neutral' subjects like geography and math, and of course anything related to religion or worship.
She embraces her responsibilities as a shrine maiden, and performs them with care. Not surprisingly though, she has noticed that most of the people who come to the shrine come either as a family or in pairs. Sveta wishes that she could go places and have fun with her mother, and she also daydreams about what it would have been like to live a more 'free' life, a life away from the shrine...
