So my first day in the food industry, I get to do some catering help. Sounds like it will be some good experience for the future. I get to the school and find out I will be working with six high school kids, the head chef and two chefs below him. I also had Bear from normal class, thankfully. I think I would have died without him.

We got out to Tobin James and it was hell setting up. No one seemed to know exactly what were were doing and the head chef wasn't telling us anything. So there was much standing around. Eventually all was set up and I was given the task of carving ham as thin as I possibly could and serving it to the mostly drunken people people attending Zin Fest. Most of them were not interested in my ham, especially when they learned it was ham. They would rather have the slow roasted beef or the white turkey. So the people that did like ham got a nice amount.

One of the high school kids informed me that he would take over slicing ham when ever I wanted my break. Since I'd been on my feet for almost two hours I thought it would be a nice time for one. So I turned my knife over and went outside. Called my mommy, checked in on my buggy and just relaxed.

I noticed suddenly, wow, there's a lot of smoke. Huh, I didn't think any of the other caterers were grilling. Obviously I missed it because it was a HUGE place. There were seven caterers and the band in just our section of the tent. All of the sudden I hear snapping, crackling AND popping. Along with flashes of blue light. This is a winery, a rich huge winery, fire works are not out of the question.

...until the power goes out behind me. People are drunk and going, 'Oh nooooo~~' Until the realize it's not really supposed to be happening. They continue coming by asking for food and we serve.. sorta. I snagged a few of our own really yummy rolls in the chaos.

Then it comes out that transformer EXPLODED, wires were sent flying, hitting the metal fence and starting a fire. Fire engines, sheriffs and all sort of exciting people start showing up to escort the 1000 plus people off the premises.

Bear had driven himself and was kind enough to drive me back to the culinary school. We cleaned up and my wonderful mom picked me up and brought me home!
