You, my dear, are completely insane. xd
That, or your organizational skills are lightyears ahead of mine.

Actually, I've found myself adding a lot of threads to my subscribed list lately. I guess I finally came to the conclusion that if I am serious about getting art from certain people, I have to wait it out until they have the space to take on new commissions. This is something that I've religiously avoided doing for a very long time. xD
xd xd Being an art-whore can be such a pain....
I'm a greedy son of a gun, that's what I am. My art shop isn't enough! XD;;
I think it's because I love drawing OCs more than I do Gaia avatars, to be honest.

I want to set up an art request thread badly but I have so many refs I need to draw... =I

@Deuxia: It's so true. But then again, it's also so much fun. I love buying art. biggrin

@Fu-Lu: Haha. I don't have what I consider a 'real' art shop, because I prefer to pick my commissions. I don't really want to draw what most people out there want - I'd much rather pick what I want to work on. Back before I started up my speechbubble shop, I was a true R&C mercenary. Ah, those were the days. xd

I have been wanting to make this thread for weeks. I kept holding back because I absolutely hate those little profile pictures that I put up on the front page and wanted to make some better ones. But then I finally decided that I just ought to do it or it'd never happen.... So here I am now. n_n
Mew... Buying art is now my main obsession! I have so far 468 images and I can't get enough! Now I'm collecting references of my OC's to make an art contest in the future.. it would be my 3rd art contest. I usually make one every year. 3nodding heart
Doing an art shop seems to force my style to evolve - the nuances of my art style tend to change every month now, but at least they're better than the last. XD;;

Though now I'm just doing it so I can fund my art request, whenever it may be.

Hehe. At least you have two OCs up so far. I have like...13 OCs I need to cover, and 5 of them are extensively detailed monsters/mecha because I'm a freak like that. =D

@Deuxia: Wow, I feel like a fledgling art whore compared to you. I'm slightly over the 100 mark, but that covers all my characters, as well as all my avatar art. I do like getting avatar art, but I'd much rather get OC art - my characters have been around longer, anyway.

Besides making a request thread, my other dream has been to make an art contest. I've been a bit more hesitant with that... In part because I hate giving up large amounts of items at once, and also, it seems like a potentially risky endeavor, not to mention relatively time-consuming. You're a veteran, though. Any tips for a possible first-timer?

@Fu-Lu: Oh, my art style has definitely evolved over the course of my Gaian career... My shop work has pretty much stayed at the same level, though. I guess I go about things differently, but oh well. Whatever works. :3

Heh heh, I only have two OCs listed here, but my entire repertoire consists of nearly a dozen characters. A lot of them are dark elves. @_@ Fury and Jesper are two of my favorites, though, so that's why they're featured here.
>//< I feel flattered that you're asking me for advice... well.. here's my two cents, dear:

* Put a minimum of entries. If you don't receive that minimum, don't give out the higher prizes, just some lower-rank prizes or other forms of recognition, such as free art.
* Specify with tons of references (visual references, if possible).
* Set a quality standard. Example: No stick-figures, no dolls, no pencil sketches. Preferred: clean linearts, CG, traditional works (clean), etc.
* Set a deadline of at least a month, include both day and time w/time zone (gaian time, preferrably) to avoid misunderstandings.
* The ammount of prizes needs to be proportional to the amount of art you want to receive. For example: If you want to receive at least 20-40 entries, give out at least 150k, for 50-60 entries: 300k, etc.
* Give out gold and donation letters for more variety. People tend to go more for letters and items than pure gold.
* Reward your bumpers and loyal visitors. Example: Free chibi for 100-200 bumps, etc.
* Visit your contest often. This will give your contestants more confidence.
* Hire/ask for help. That way, you're going to have a back-up when you're not online. A contest demands a lot of attention.
* Let your contestants post their artwork, if possible. However, leave your PM's open just in case. Specify your preference.

Here is the last contest I did, you can feel free to take a look:

(I just realized that I already did three! XD! The next one would be my fourth...)

I hope this helps. Good luck! heart heart
