I typically only click banners if they contain really pretty art.
But then I sometimes get disappointed to find that they were using someone else's image. . .

Personally, when I am searching the art shop threads, I tend to avoid shops with a large page number and post count. I'm intimidated by it all for some reason.
Most likely because of what I see you were all talking about earlier.
Favorites are usually chosen by then, or everyone inside knows each other, or there are 'regulars' that scar me away.
I've been in many shops where regs give me the stink eye because I came in after 200+ pages of them talking, and act like it's against the law for someone new to be interested. .
sorry if that doesn't make any sense, I'm tired.
ewe;

Anyways, I tend to stick to buying from Temp shops because it's generally faster? I go in, fill out a form, and wait to see if I'm accepted. Perhaps I'm just lazy.

I also sort of have this grudge against normal shops because it seems to never fail.. I look at their samples and they have BEAUTIFUL artwork. I order from them, and then the end result's quality looks rushed and just.. not what I was paying for. I don't want to blow 400k+ on a piece that was rushed. I'd rather the artist tell me that they weren't inspired to draw my character anymore and just cancel the trade instead of hurrying to get it done.

I could rant forever about my opinions on Gaia Art shops, but I won't bore any of you further.

no, go on; i'm always interested in finding out what people actually think of gaiashops

i see what ur saying ^___^ maybe in those shops, regs feel like ur competing with them? idk, we have very few regs here, and everyone seems nice enough (though i might occasionally try to make u eat raw seafood razz )

^^; samples tend to be the best works of the artists... i always try to look at the recently finished works.

Fudge, I had a big rant all typed and then my Gaia app ate it. e3e

I suppose that's true, but of the shop seems unsettling then I won't stick around or buy from the artists. I also don't like reading through an artists shop and seeing that they are negative and/or have a huge ego. I don't care if their art looks like it belongs in a museum, I won't buy it of the artist seems like a buttface.

Another thing, lately the Gaian market has been inflated. So as expected, art prices inflate as well. I don't mind spending a good chunk of cash if the art is awesome, but when I see half body sketches bein offered for 500k min, then I get a little irritated.

I took a year hiatus and returned sometime last year, and when I got back it seemed as though a lot of the permimant, talented artists packed up and left when I was gone. I have a hard time finding art that isn't chibi. And when I think I finally found one they either charge waaaay too much, or their shop is closed or on hiatus.

Haha, the ego thing is annoying, right? I'm not a fan of artists that don't respond to posts either, but I think my biggest pet peeve is probably impatient ppl I get in the occasional temp shop. Everyone sees the order they posted in, so i dont understand the complaints... I mean, ppl will get their art eventually; and I do have a life ^^'... So unless they want me to raise prices to slow the flow... ^^? But i like my prices the way they are, and most of my customers are really great about the wait so I guess I lucked out smile

I can't speak for many, but some of my friends who are amazing artists packed up because Gaia ppl tend to forget they're dealing out virtual currency, and they kept comPlaining that the prices are too high and the artist are too slow... I don't understand why these people cant see: low prices =lots of orders= obscenely long waiting periods, while high prices=less people = shorter waiting periods. So unless people want to wait half a year or so... The full shops can't be overcharging ^^',

Wow, all this talk about art shops makes me really grateful I've had nice customers all this time. Maybe I should make a game for free sketches later

I go by that rule as well. Charging more so my orders are slower. I agree that a lot of Gaians tend to forget that artists are people too! Not all of us have all day every day to draw like a lot of people expect. I have a tendency to go out on walks that last all day. Hehe..
Once, I had someone order a chibi couple and then asked if I could have it done that same night.
.___. I know my art doesn't look über details or complicated, but I take forever to draw. I'm a slow artist. Occationally I can whip up an order in one day, but generally not. I have interests of my own, so not all of my free time gets spent on art.

Yeah~ I have a friend that wimps out every once in a while as well. ewe;

Your art is really good for only taking that long! Man, I can't get anything but doodles done in that amount of time. Like I've said, I'm reeeeeeeally slow. xD Well, poo. I have several styles of art..
I have.. my fast anime style. Another and yet another .
Then I have a style that I spend a looooot of time on. This is a current WIP of my more detailed style. ewe; And another WIP.

And I have.. three chibi styles or so.. Female Detailed Chibi , Male Detailed Chibi , Marker Chibi , Derpy chibi.

I'm still learning how to draw, and I just recently acquired Paint Tool Sai, so I'm experimenting with the tools. Recently, I've been experimenting with the Water Tool.

If they don't read the rules, and get upset, respond "I'm sorry, but you didn't read and follow the rules properly. Please try again at another time." If they still get pissy, tell them to leave, if they don't, report and ignore them.

I generally remind them that I have a "Rules" post on the front page that they must have ignored, and then proceed to tell them that I've ignored their Order Form likewise.
Or if it has nothing to do with the ordering, then I just redirect them to my "Rules" post and give them a warning. A second warning results in a blacklist. </3
Luckily I don't have too many issues with rule breakers. :0 Have you??
