Leo uncoded or deciphered the codex pages. Built Ezio's hidden blade and small gun device thing.
He invented a flying machine that Ezio used later on in the game.
When deciphering the codex pages, he told Ezio what information was provided, and taught him new assassination techniques.

He's a helpful buddy, per say.
