Welcome to my Commission Thread! This is for a very specific project, which I need at least 12 pieces of art to complete. I've decided to commission 16 or 17, so I have some choices. Since I'm a terrible artist, I thought I'd give Gaian artists a shot to step out of the box and do something a little unusual. With a heavy bribe, of course. I will be paying at minimum 200k apiece for each of the drawings I'm hoping to buy. I recognize that what I'm asking for is out-of-the-norm for most artists here so I'm willing to pay up to 500k to each of you. Which, as you all know, is a good chunk of money. Now that I've enticed some of you a little bit, I hope you'll continue down a couple posts to see what I'm looking for.

Please keep in mind that if this isn't art you believe you can do, submit some art samples anyway and I may commission you for avatar art. 3nodding

I'll try to make this short and sweet. I need to make fabric blocks. Yes, real fabric for a real cloth quilt. I'm sewing a personal quilt featuring a few of the places I've seen in the Washington-Oregon region. The quilt has 12 empty blocks waiting to be filled. Once these have been drawn, I intend to print them on a colorfast material and then sew everything altogether. If you want to see the quilt I chose for this, look at the next post.

This means that I'm primarily looking for non-peopled images, a slight challenge for the skills of Gaian artists, but one I hope many can meet. Below is the about the size I need (about half a sheet of 8" by 11" paper).

In addition to your drawing, I will need a separate (not including the initials you signed onto your art) picture of a signature (please, your real name/initials) so that I may place it on the quilt to give everyone due credit. =] The commission is really not very complicated. I have several photos of a dozen or so landmarks you simply need to draw (feel free to just draw the photo with alterations if you wish) and then send me the sketches. The entire template does not need to be filled. I will pay extra for color for certain artists but be sure you send me your initial sketch.

This is a rather risky, but very lucrative if everything works out, idea I've come up with. I work at a fabric store and have been looking at making myself a quilt for a while. I have nearly completed my first (completely hand-done) and hope that this one will go much faster considering I just recently acquired a sewing machine. Although I'm new to quilting, I thought I'd merge my passion with art to my own sense of creativity before I become too busy to do so. I hope to have all of this done by January, by which time I should be attending Western Washington University for my Bachelors. I know quilting is considered a hobby for retirees, but it really is incredible to see what some of the customers at JoAnn's have created. Here is the quilt pattern I intend to use:

The fabrics above will go as follows: replacing the blue stripe on the pattern, blue flowers. Replacing the red, brown. Replacing the tan, yellow. And red is replacing the smaller border on the quilt.. The big squares will feature a neutral color I haven't decided on yet. Artwork I purchase will be placed into the smaller squares. If all goes well, I will post a photo of the end result on this thread. =] In the end, the quilt will look more like this:

I sincerely hope to get some applicants for this endeavor, especially with the holidays approaching and all the questing going on.
If you've read through the above posts, you know what the project will take. Now for the details.

Step One. Read through posts two and three to understand the project. If this is not something you feel you can do, but you would still like me to commission you for avatar art, fill out the form below.

Avatar Art
Username:
Samples: ~This can include DAs, Shops, or individual samples.~
Typical Price Range: ~I tend to tip, but please give me an initial price to work with~

Step Two. Look through the pictures featured in each individual location post (all in brown lettering below the top five posts of this thread continuing on the second page). Choose two or three of these you'd like to draw. Keep in mind that you really only need to sketch parts of the images. The entire template does not need to be filled in. The edges should be less detailed than the middle.

Step Three. Post a form here or PM me one (preferably post) for me to look through. The form is below.

Quilt Art
Username:
Samples: ~This can include DAs, Shops, or individual samples, the more the better.~
Estimated Time: ~Read through the rest of this post before you list an estimated time~
Choice One: ~List the location and letter of which picture you'd like to do most.~
Choice Two: ~Location and letter of you're second favorite.~

Step Four. I will either accept or decline. If accepted, I will send you a trade with your initial 200k. Begin sketching, but please no color until I have received the sketch and we discuss it. I'd almost rather have all of these in black and white.

Step Five. Once final black and white sketch is complete in the template provided in post two (the second image) with your initials or signature etched somewhere into the picture, please send to me via PM right away. It effects how much gold you are to receive. You're welcome to watermark the image until I have completed the trade.

Step Six. Send me a picture of your initials of signature so I may put it on a separate block in the quilt. Please do not use your Gaia screen name. I will pay you right away with the appropriate additions to your sum (shown below).

How You're to Earn Your Keep

If I receive the PM with final sketch within week of commission: 25k.
If I receive the PM with final sketch within two weeks of commission: 10k.

All directions followed: 10k.

Signature/Initials sent in same PM as final sketch: 5k.

Keeping me fully updated with progress of work by posting on this thread: 50k.

Choosing either Seattle or Tacoma Dome: 20k.

My satisfaction in overall work: 1k-155k.

Updates

November 13th Going to Bellingham for a couple days! I'll be back online saturday. Thank you Kitten for the gift piece: for all to see.

November 5th. I have a opened another page contest. This time, anyone qualifies (excluding myself). Good luck! I'm giving commissioned artists another day or two to get in touch and then I'm sending a PM. Nothing bad, just want to be kept informed. =]

October 29th. Unrelated to this thread, but I'm officially a WWU student now!!

October 26th. Getting down to the final two commissions for this thread. I've decided to add a 20k bonus for the last two artists if they choose to do the Tacoma Dome or Seattle and a 30k bonus for the artist to do Western Washington University.

October 25th. Birthday today! I just got back from all the celebrating. :] I ended up deciding to change my plan for the quilt around. Instead of needing 16 blocks, I need 14 or so, and I want them all to be in black and white. It ties all the artwork together. I'm updating my quilting post tonight so it reflects this new goal, and I'm taking out the option of coloring for extra money (though if you want to send me a colored version, I will probably tip very highly). After October 27th, I will no longer offer the extra 60k for color. Sorry, guys!

October 24th. Sorry I was basically inactive most of today. I was attempting to get the sewing part of things started. Although the images converted nicely to fabric, I still have to work out a sizing snag or two. And I discovered strong colors don't show up incredibly well when printed. Thats the manual part of things though. I'm now looking through all the PMs and sorting them out, so I promise I'll answer everyone's questions soon.

In addition, I'm adding link ins and link outs tonight. So check out the second page for those. <33

Re-vamping the thread layout. Just to make it prettier, but also for practical reasons. The new name is a more clear and descriptive title. =] There's still a few more changes for me to make but I've spent all night online so I'm going to sleep now and continue editing later today.

October 23rd. Have three artists coloring their blocks and one more finishing up a graphic. = D Which is great, because that means I can start quilting things together soon. I've decided to post the blocks as I sew them so artists can see their work.

October 22nd. Already have 2 interested artists. A fantastic start! To attract a few more people to the thread, however, I have put up a little contest that should be easy enough. =] You do not qualify if:

--you haven't read this and the first post. If you have, please post 'Happy birthday!' Its my birthday on the 25th. <3
--you've posted less than three times on this thread.

Considering this, the first qualified person to post on page 10 will receive 10k. xD Winner: Chrnoskitty.

First on page 20 will get the same deal! <33 Winner: Chrnoskitty.

Now officially open! Boy, I'm tired. A couple more things to do then off to bed.

The first five posts are complete! I must now seek images for the quilt itself. Please begin posting samples if you'd like to be considered, even though you can't choose which blocks to draw yet.

A little non-specific, but the city view is a good photo op. Lots of depths to work with here though. Feel free to alter details.. this is a tough one, but has some really good potential.
