I work on computers for a living.
All the systems have their advantages and disadvantages.

Apple
+ Generally stable
+ Generally high quality machines
+ Easy to use on a surface level
- Minimal customization of anything
- EVERYTHING about it is overpriced
- Monopoly in every way they can get you
- The hardware is designed to make upgrades difficult, if not impossible
- Not made for gaming

Windows
+ Easy hardware customization
+ Large hardware compatibility
+ Customizable software to the extent that most users care about
+ Largest software compatibility (gaming, design, office work, etc)
- OS is not very stable so will likely become corrupted with most big updates, resulting in needing to reinstall

Linux
+ ALL the customization
+ Free
/ Far more hardware compatibility than apple, but a little less than windows
- If you don't know what you are doing then be prepaired for a lot of research
- Seriously, you need to be familiar with terminal command use and coding/programming stuff if you want this properly working

I absolutely hate the apple company, they are butts about everything. send their customers to us who have only 3yr old computers because they 'can't help them' when it's just a simple RAM upgrade or failing HDD. Batteries that bloat and crack the trackpads/distort the case/can shoot acid if left long enough to explode.
BTW their company cert. exam asked safety questions. Their solution for a bloating battery hazard is to put the battery in a sandbox for a few hours. Like... it's still going to be bloating when you take it out? How does that fix anything?! xD
Ugh, building their computers with the data storage soldered onto the motherboard, which is an extremely likely component to fail, meaning data retrieval is going to be near impossible when it does. Building computers with NO HEAT DISTRIBTION /sobs. It's like they want their computers to break so you will buy a new one. Oh, wait... ._.

Windows is my preferred, but dang me if an OS reinstall fixes 50% of the PC machines we see here. It's much too common. Windows 7 was better at handling it's corruption (it will happen to any OS that has updates, no matter what platform you use). Windows 10 just borks out lol.
If you have a windows PC, just keep regular backups of your data (I mean you should be doing this with EVERY computer), and be ready to reinstall every 6-12 months.

Linux... I don't have too much experience because it's not worth for my purposes. However, I have assembled 8 desktops for samsung where they wanted Ubuntu. Took me a day and changing mobo brands to get it to even install onto the machine. For the life of me I could not get any wifi drivers to work on that thing. I spent an entire work day trying to get wifi working, used multiple adapters, followed the packaging directions, followed the OS's directions, followed the internet's directions. I gave up. Told samsung if they want to use Ubuntu, they need to figure it out on their own lol. My repair company doesn't support Linux because of how much time it takes per unit so they were lucky I even installed it for them haha.

So basically, to each their own. Though I generally think apple users are silly.

My experience with Ubuntu and other Debian-based distros has been pretty good, honestly. I've installed Ubuntu in particular on a number of systems, and I'm currently running Linux Mint; the fact that you had so many issues getting it working on Samsungs is honestly pretty surprising. How long ago did you do that job?

It's also been my experience over the last eight years or so that general-purpose distros like Ubuntu and Linux Mint (targeted users migrating from other systems) are built to just work. I've even moved a hard drive between computers and had Ubuntu identify the new hardware's drivers without any issues. I've also never needed to do any kind scripting or programming to get it to work, and only rarely write scripts for convenience. Terminal use is also helpful, but most users will only ever need to learn basic commands (mostly `sudo apt-get install <package>`).

I know it wasn't supposed to be that hard to work with linux, but it was lol. I also wasn't able to find anyone else available to help me that knew how linux worked so I was relying on internet knowledge.

I spent about 1.5 weeks building all 8 units, while working on my other computers too so it wasn't that long. Would have been shorter if linux was more strait forward though haha.

The wifi driver issue is that he wasn't able to fit a PCIe wifi card in the machine with the two 1080ti's. So I tried to add the usb wifi dongle but the driver was not detecting and I couldn't figure out how to add it to the system.

We used to have someone who used linux computers, and he would virtualize windows to play games and do other stuff that was simply easier to do with windows. I mean, when it's easier to virtualize another OS to do something than I would say that the original OS is likely not ideal.

But again, to each their own. I don't have anything against linux, I'd take it over apple anyday!

As a species, we decided that they're somewhat of an isolationist species, as the're fairly wary of anything else. (They have to contend with enormous, highly poisonous fish that are almost impossible to see.)

Man, that's pretty ridiculous. I'm not entirely surprised about the dongle not working, however; if it was only designed with Windows or OS X in mind, then it'll likely be a pain in the a** to find the right drivers for Linux. Even with flash drives, the first thing I do is reformat them to get rid of the crappy programs that manufacturers are putting on them these days. (That crap just takes up space, in my opinion.)

Honestly, if my computer had more power (and the Nvidia drivers weren't causing my desktop environment to crash), I'd probably be doing the same thing. I can't stand using Windows, and I've never liked Apple.

Of course, I also have even further reason to want to use Linux all the time: I enjoy programming, and the Linux environment is, quite frankly, far better for that- even for web development (amusingly).

Each OS has their purposes. Windows and Linux are far more useful and Apple, but at the end of the day it's up to whatever works best for your purposes.
(I was using a wifi adapter that was designed compatible with linux, tried 2 different ones actually lol)
