I'm with you on this, that the events should be included in the cost of the badge...
no thats not what I ment, I'll blame it with my bad english, what i ment is I hope its a win situation for artist alley cause many times I've been to cons where people just hang out in the lobby (or share badges) so if the AA was there , they'd get some more sales and maybe new fans because they got no where to go and the temptation is harder if you look at something for a long time
@Aki, I'll have to reread the rules again but I'm thinking I should post a poster of my gaia art so more people might recognize me
Ah, I get what you're saying, now, and I'll have to say that Jilly is on the right track with that... I've actually in the past helped to organize some conventions, and there's not only a lot of unpaid time that goes into it, there's also a lot of expenses (guests, facilities, etc). Letting people access areas for free means the organizers get nothing back on the expenses they've paid, and oftentimes--especially in the case of smaller cons--they're just barely skating by from year to year, sometimes with the organizers paying parts of the expenses out of their own pockets.
I've been at cons where it was possible, due to either location or a bad job by volunteers of checking badges, to access convention areas without a badge, but that doesn't mean I think it was a good thing. That badge fee exists for a very good reason.
Though I disagree with the statement about cost... My cost for tables this year was $95, $60, and $75, so no, I'm not getting off cheaper doing this than by doing a craft show priced in that same range. I'm just benefiting from a more targeted audience.
