So is there anyone who's kind of a slow RPer
(like wouldn't mind one or two posts a day)
that would be up to RPing with Hubby's character?
I'd love to see this particular character interact with Pahkakino.
Saphirus is a lawful good half-elf cleric-type.

Though if there's anyone else available I'll pass that onto Hubby and let him decide.

Jason swallows and looks away at the mention of his eye, trying to hide behind his hair again. "Getting fixed up would be nice," he sighs quietly. "Not having to worry about people trying to kill me..." He shakes his head and turns back to her with the best smile he can hitch on. "Our apocalypse was... Well, Xandra called it the Collapse but she's always had some opinions on society as a whole. Mostly about us slowly destroying ourselves and breeding stronger diseases that we have no way of fighting in the name of progress or something." He considers it for a moment. "A freeze would have helped with some of the smell."

Oh, hey, savagist theory, how are you? I'd like to thank that one drummer for me knowing this stuff.

"Ahhh...mysterious employer is near?" He smiled and looked about the room. It was tidy, and a relatively fair size. "Must be nice change of things. To not kill." He imagined such work for himself. To his brief dismay, he felt that he would be bored with it after time.
Ja'tel followed Teagan down a small hall, since she had decided to walk for herself. He kept closely behind her until they stood before the door to her room. At her command, he waited for a moment outside of her room. 'Not a bad place to stay.' He thought to himself, comparing the places he had lived to it. In all his life, he had spent a small amount of years in a permanent building of any kind. 'I can't imagine what she could possibly want to give me....'He pondered the possibilities.
When Teagan returned, he spotted the wooden case and furrowed his brow, cocking his head to the side slightly. 'Wh-- that looks like...' As he listened and she opened the box, he was taken with genuine surprise .Like a child on a holiday, his eyes lit up and he looked to her in disbelief. "Ah! So generous!" he took the instrument gingerly as if it were a sacred relic. He eyed the thing with a musician's hunger. "Is so similar to what I had back home! Ahhh! Cannot wait to--soo--" His excitement got the best of his words. He quickly and without thinking, scooped Teagan into a hug with his free arm, the other clutching to the instrument happily. He laughed somewhat nervously, not knowing if he should apologize or not. He calmed himself and said graciously, "Thank you." and he bowed ever so slightly laughing again, "Well...I should maybe be going now." He unwrapped the long black cloth from around his shoulders (he had not had time to redo his headdress) and made a makeshift strap for the small instrument as he walked down the hall. He slung it over his shoulders and stood in the window. "I will see you soon." He smiled widely and exited without a sound.

Wondering at his luck, and more pleased than he had been in quite a long time, Ja'tel made his way down the building of cold stone and down to the street. He walked quickly, yet not having anywhere to go, only looking for a place to settle himself and get to know his new friend. He came across a few wooden crates near the side of a building in what was probably a marketplace in the daytime. He sat upon the crate, keeping his feet upon the ground, as he reached for the lute-like object. He examined the strings and tuning pegs and tested each of them to his fancy. 'Today...it has been good to me.'

Sure! I'm flattered you thought of Pahka. ^~^ If Hubby would like to start then I can pull Pahka over to play. ^~^ Or I can start, it doesn't really matter to me. ^~^ (Tomorrow though. It's past my bedtime.)

Teagan gasped in surprise as she was pulled up into a warm, happy hug. She hadn't been embraced like this in so long, that the sensation was new again for her. She blushed, but kept a shy smile on her tired face. It was overwhelming, how ecstatic Ja'tel was over her gift.

"You're welcome.." she managed to answer, before he ran off like a giddy child. Teagan shook her head and dragged herself to bed, exhausted. She laid on her back, staring at the ceiling.

...I'm actually...happy...for once.

Within minutes, she was asleep, on her side. Her window was left open a crack, and once in a while a cool breeze played with the stray strands of her hair.

Lurp waited until Rivek was out of sight, and then crouched, letting her body contract into the familiar form of a ragged brown mutt. It was the perfect form for tracking. No one suspected a dog scenting the air, and dogs could go almost anywhere without drawing attention. Dog-lurp trotted around the building to the front of the bar and lifted its nose. The night air was a knot of scents, but Lurp was looking for a single thread. When she found it, she took off, following where it lead.

Her initial reaction had been to go after the amazonian creature. She seemed the bigger threat. But then Lurp reasoned that if she was as dangerous as it seemed, she should gather more information before approaching her. So it was that Lurp decided instead to trace the brown barfly that had given up Rivek's secrets. She would find out just how much this Devaena had been told, before she decided how to end her.that Rivek had mentioned.

The scent initially led into Garland's restaurant, which would have been a problem in this form afterall, but luckily for Lurp, it lead right back out again. There were other scents intertwined with, following the same path. At least one was a person. The other was the unmistakable scent of alcohol.

As Lurp followed the scent-path, one of the scents became stronger than the others. As she puzzled over this, she heard the sound of music coming from up ahead. She slowed her pace, and came around a corner to find a man seated on crates, tuning an instrument. She stopped several feet away.

((going to assume that Jatel's new location is somewhere between Garland's and the Fletcher building))

((Yeah, that's where I kinda figured it's be. Sorry I didn't specify. He didn't bother going too terribly far, too excited))

Ja'tel fuddled with the strings for a good amount of time, never becoming frustrated, just enjoying that he once again had something to occupy his time. 'Maybe this world is not total loss.' He mused. With the notes where he wanted them to be, he began to strum a tune familiar to him, something of a favorite. A note turned sour and he made a face. "Bah!" he said aloud, "No, no. Play well!" He coaxed to his instrument and adjusted a peg again. He started over, this time it went smoothly. The song was relatively face paced, as was most music from Anorah (better to dance to) and his fingers danced upon the strings. He watched himself play, as he usually did when there were not others around, and the ink upon his fingers was a very different sight. Ja'tel realized he hadn't played since he got them, some time over a year ago. Still, he played comfortably and looked up as he became more at ease with the tune. He spotted several feet away what looked to be a stray brown dog. "Ello!" he called to it, not ceasing to play. "Come to listen, doggie?" he called in his accent happily. He laughed in tempo. He'd always been fond of dogs for their loyalty. Cats however, received no love from the bandit.

Teagan rarely dreamed when she was this exhausted, this intoxicated. But miraculously, her mind took flight through memories of home. Eventually, her dreams took her to one of the most important days of her life.

Jonathan rushed into his room with a grin that Teagan recognized many times before.

"In my room again Tibby..." he laughed, giving an evil look. "Rummaging through my papers again?"

"I'm just enjoying the solace that I never seem to find in my own room." she scoffed, standing and playfully punching his arm. Lately her little sister had been nothing but an annoyance. "Besides, given that smirk I see you've been up to something. And I am going to find out what it is whether you like it or not."

She watched her brother, waiting for him to confess whatever devious thing he'd done this time. Jonathan was the type that charismatically seemed to play by the rules, while secretly breaking some for amusement. Mostly, he just tended to sneak off the property and head into the town to rough-house with his friends. Occasionally he liked to pester the animals in the fields nearby. But for the most part he stayed out of any real trouble, and managed to lead as shining example for the rest of the family.

Oddly, his face became more serious than usual. "I'm not quite sure if you'd like to know what it is this time, Tib." Now she had to know. "Just tell me!" she laughed.

He took out a small object from his pocket. It was a ring with a thick silver band, and small beads of jade embedded all around. A graceful floral pattern was etched into the band as well. Teagan looked at it in wonder, but suddenly realized why Jonathan remained solemn.

"You stole this..." she whispered, shocked. She frowned as she looked up at him, disappointed.

"Now before you go on and judge, Tibby..." he said harshly. "I was in the town, and there was a man there from England. He was clearly a swindler, and a cocky good-for-nothing glutton. He strode around, snickering at just about everyone he came across. I watched him a while, and discovered that he has three of these rings. Three. And I had O'Connor check this before I came back. It's not junk. Thing is the real thing. Sure there are fancier bits of jewelry out there. But for us, this is...worth quite a bit around here." He smirked a little.

"Normally I'm not a thieving man. You know that. But he was asking for it. And we're not exactly thriving here, Tibby. Hell, it will probably benefit the entire village once I trade this in."

"We didn't get where we are today by stealing and cheating each other." Teagan replied scornfully, looking away from her brother. Jonathan took a step towards her and turned her face towards his again.

"Teagan." He said gently. "We are beyond blessed to live in a community, where most in it always have the entire community's needs in mind." He sighed. "We survive where others fail to because of teamwork. I know. But understand this: The world, even the world just outside our doorstep, in not like that. Out there, even in town, are plenty of people that would lie, cheat, and even murder to feed their families, or just themselves. And honestly, in some cases...I don't blame them." He frowned at her reaction. "Morals are all well and good. But look where we are, and look how close we come to death each year. And tell me that even in this, you'd rather uphold a virtue, than save your family from starvation."

Teagan's eyes dropped to the ground. She'd never considered it before. The principles taught to her, and the reality of her small world meshed perfectly, up until now. There had never been a need to consider if following tradition, following the Law was always the absolute right thing for her to do. But he was right. She'd rather have him steal, to help provide for his family, than to do nothing more than the expected, and have everyone suffer.

The two sat on the bed and stared at the ring in Jonathan's hand. It was beautiful...but it gave Teagan a sickening feeling.

"I'll tell you what..." he said to her gently. "I won't trade this in immediately. This will be for a dire emergency. We've done alright so far this year so maybe it won't be necessary trade it. And if somehow the Almighty shows me that I must give it back, whether through cursing our health, or having that vile English fellow haunt my dreams, then I shall return it." He gave a weak smile to his younger sister, and ruffled her hair.

"Come on now, don't look so down. Everything will be alright. I know you're soooo worried that I'll be caught and punished for my crimes!" He chuckled and was relieved to see a smile return to Teagan's face. "Now off with you, I'm going to write something." He playfully pushed her out of the doorway, mumbling something to tease her as she left and returned to her own room.

For a moment, Teagan woke up and groaned in misery. She really needed to find that ring, and it pained her that she'd managed to lose it twice already.

...I'm sorry Jonathan.

Before she could start sobbing, she fell back asleep, this time to dream of nothing.
