"Carry on?!? Oh, come on! And you call yourself a guard? Ex-guard? Whatever!" Zoe exclaimed, exasperated.
She took a deep breath and cleared her thoughts, her expression becoming more serious. She wished
her dragon was here. His absence truly worried her. She couldn't feel his presence at all. She could still feel her link with him, but it seemed to be disconnected, desperately searching for him. She would have to do this alone, but if she failed... then
he would be all alone. Everyone knows what happens to a dragon when their rider dies...
"it's fine, whatever" she finally sighed out. "We don't even know if more than one person can fight this stupid thing anyway, so I guess I'll fight it alone."
She paused again, seemingly caught up in thought, then continued, "There has to be a reason that the arena is there, right? Why would you even be able to fight the thing if it was pointless? Besides, I'm in the right here. I don't know for sure, but... I can feel that it's the right thing to do."
She turned back to glance at the young girl, smiling widely.
"...and that contraption's never faced the wrath of Zoe Katernon before. He's got a big surprise coming."
