I definitely agree, lines on humans make it all so... blocky and odd. But perspective on humans is a bit difficult for me either way. I think I've improved on it a lot of the last year because I've been challenging myself, but it's been a struggle. I think you made the right choice with the angle and the use of perspective lines on yours, the angle captures a large amount of the house and gives it depth that a straight-on wouldn't.

biggrin (looks great!) It makes drawing the picture that much harder but the results are worth it!
I agree about the angle too, my first attempt was from the front but the corner gives the building a lot more dimension even though it's more difficult to draw! Also since the reference house was a bit on the small side I sorta gave it a booster shot xD
