WAY TOO MUCH INFO!
This is my About Me, I guess
You may call me Leslie. Or anything else you like, as long as it's not insulting. You can call me HCU9976 for all I care.
The birthday listed on my profile is accurate. Do some math if you wish to find out my age.
I am 5'7" and consider myself too tall.
Brown hair, brown eyes.
I'm a human being. In fact, so are you. If you claim you aren't a human, you're either an alien, delusional, or lying, from least to most probable.
My current academic standing:
I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I got As in the classes I cared about, but always did relatively poorly in classes I didn't care about (Bs and Cs). I have legitimate difficulties convincing myself to put effort into classes that bore me, and it has severely impacted my GPA. As such, my GPA upon graduating with my B.S. was less than 3.5, but more than 3.0.
My main interests are in physiological engineering (of people, crops, and other organisms) and nutrient ecology. My ultimate goal is to design the life support systems for space colonies and large spacecraft, while simultaneously building a strong company that can solve the unique problems for life imposed by the environment of outer space.
I am planning to attend graduate school in the near future, though I'm taking a year or so off to work and earn up money so I can afford to properly apply to TA and researcher positions, as well as to get some of my personal problems sorted out.
I value people with strong ambitions and environmental ethics. I am an atheist: as such, I tend to be sacrilegious, but avoid openly bashing peoples' philosophies (though I may bash them behind your back). I have a different view on morals than most people, since I accept that there really is no "right and wrong," it's all up to us to decide what we believe in. I do, however, still feel that there are values beyond financial and physical value, and am in no way someone you might consider amoral, though I do bet my values are far-skewed from a normal person's.
I hold people responsible for the choices they make, and anyone who uses their culture or social pressures to justify something they do is taking a weak way out. Not saying culture is a bad thing, just saying that you're actively taking part in all rituals, customs, activities, and beliefs your culture performs, regardless of anything else. If you do it, be responsible for the fact that it was your decision.
I have little respect for governmental authority. If someone has studied astrophysics their entire life, then I consider their opinion of higher authority than that of an undergraduate. However, if someone is elected into a position by popular vote, I do not respect their position simply because people voted for them. As for law, science has its own laws.. and if you managed to break them, you'd be more likely to get a Nobel Prize than a conviction. Human laws are not interesting to me unless they affect science education or scientific advancement.
In terms of "trans":
The rumors are true. I am transgendered. Born male, preferred female. I am on my way to a sex change one day, but am a ways off from affording it it right now.
I am also strongly transhumanist. This means that I believe we should not seek simply to live a normal human life and die as humans, but that we should seek to become better than what nature alone can grant us. Extending the human lifespan, curing diseases and the ailments of old-age, improving human mental capacity, strength, resilience, etc are all things I consider highest priority. Until we can safely live 1000+ years, I consider us failing. Likewise, I think the human population is way too high. Ideally, we should have 1/10th of the people we currently have given the size of this planet, but it's difficult to say how this could be managed given the tendencies of human nature. Since mass-extermination of humans is clearly not an option, I truly feel that leaving the planet is the only option.
The movie "The Transporter" was okay, I guess, but I didn't like it too much.
The Transatlantic Cable is pretty swell.
Trans-fats are pretty horrible. That s**t'll kill you.
Transformers was ruined by Micheal Bay.
