According to my friend, while he was in Boot camp they tried to make him do the Hooah thing. He wouldn't and said 'Hup Hup' instead. They didn't like that...

Also according to him Hooah is an Army thing, and the Marines say Hoorah. As I have absolutely no experience with the army whatsoever, I am unsure of how universal or true that is, but it sounds like one of those things the army would create.
