Just posting a reminder here for myself that I need to tell you more about those petroglyphs! eek
I didn't respond right away because I wanted to find the photos I took from my trip to Joshua Tree National Park.
I got lots of good photos of the petroglyphs, the desert, the cacti. So I wanted to upload & share those!
But what happens when you find old vacation photos? You end up sitting there looking at them all! rofl
So I went through all my photos & then didn't upload any!! LOL Sorry!

But I have a little collection of stuff to show you now & if I can remember this time, I will come back & share some cool stuff! 3nodding

Ahhh, your Pale Bubblegum star-witch is so cute~!!! >w< /

I got to see the Super Flower Moon! #hyped
It was on the 6th, not the 7th, so technically the moon wasn't at it's full fullness (lol) but it was at that point where it only has a teeeeny sliver that's missing.
It was so big & bright & orange! It hung super low on the horizon & I saw it at dusk before the sun had even gone down.
It was hanging low over this apartment complex on the other side of the street, between two tall trees. It looked so cool!
Immed knew I had to tell you about it! whee

Def go to Joshua Tree National Park if you can! Esp if you are interested in geology or flora at all.
It sits at the border between two deserts - the Colorado Desert, full of scrub & cactuses & the colorful Mojave Desert, full of rocks & boulder formations. heart
I picked up a guide book before I went & spent weeks daydreaming over all the places I wanted to go & the trails I wanted to hike.
You can never fit in as much stuff on a trip as you plan, so we only got to do 1 of the hikes that I picked out.
But, it was a great one, bc we got to see a turn-of-the-century dam & water well, as well as ancient petroglyphs!!
(Definitely what I was the most excited about!) Definitely worth the trip!

It's so amazing that you got to go inside the observatory back in Singapore! Your mom obviously really cares & wanted you to succeed. ^u^
The people at the observatory were probably actually really happy to hear about a young person interested in astronomy! LOL

Thankfully Canada does not seem to have much pollution & has tons of beautiful wilderness. I am sure if you can get away from city lights, you should be able to see the Milky Way on a clear night!
Actually, star gazing out in the middle of no where, away from other people, may be the best way to spend the lockdown! LOL
You & your hubby can pack up a blanket & bring a thermos full of tea or coffee or cocoa. Watching the stars together can be very romantic~! whee

Hey, star friend! gaia_star

I think the "flower moon" is just the Native American term for the full moon in May. But I am excited that it is going to be a super moon!
It seems like there have been a lot of "super moons" & "red moons" & strange stuff in the past few years! What is happening?? eek LOL!

Haley's Comet def did not move "fast" - it's different from, say, a "shooting star" aka meteorite - which whizzes through the Earth's atmosphere really fast!
Instead, the comet is an interstellar object that passes into our Solar System in cycles, so that you may only see certain ones once in a lifetime.
(That's why ancient people used to think comets were portents of doom! emotion_skull )
So, technically Haley was in the sky for several nights in a row when I was young. It first appeared very faint, then over the coming days it became clearer & clearer to the naked eye.
It reached a point of maximum visibility, then faded in appearance over the next few days as it passed out of our Solar System.
At it's more clear stage, the University Observatory had a viewing & I got to look at it through a high-power telescope! I could actually see the ice tail of the comet! whee emotion_bigheart

Sounds like you have gotten to see a few cool things, at least. I don't know if it's more challenging to star gaze in Canada, where it is more northerly & the weather is colder.
But where I live, though it is close to the equator, there is lots of moisture & humidity from the Gulf so many great astronomical events, like lunar eclipses & meteor showers, have not been visible to due rain and/or cloud cover. gonk

But! After my Dad moved out to the San Diego area in California, we booked an all-day pass for Joshua Tree National Park. (I am also a geology nerd. xp ) The pass allowed you to go in & out of the park for a 24-hr period as long as you showed it when you returned.
So, we spent the day hiking & sight-seeing, went into town to eat dinner, then drove back into the park after sunset to go stargaze! It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life!

My Dad & I brought blankets that we spread out on the desert floor & bundled up in heavy jackets & just watched the sky for about 2-3 hours.
We were able to see the Milky Way incredibly clearly. The stars looked like nothing I had ever seen before! We counted about 13 shooting stars, then I lost count.
We could see the lights of the city on the horizon in the distance. We could see several airplanes crossing over the sky during the 2 hours.
We heard coyotes in the park calling back & forth to one another. It was pretty amazing.

Thankies! redface
It is technically a PB/Sweetheart theme, but there is not very much yellow! LOL
I would like to keep tweaking it & add a little more yellow, maybe a belt around the waist or another layer of floofy stuff in the back.
//still undecided

I haven't responded to your last message yet!
Sorry, I've just been caught up in IRL business.
Nothing bad, just haven't had much energy for chatting the last few days.

As far as me & my dad star-gazing... We never owned a telescope or anything. They are so expensive!
But there is an observatory here in my town, so I went to the Astronomy Summer Camp they hosted there & we used to go when they had viewings.
For the viewing events, amateur astronomers would bring their telescopes out & position them to look at something cool.
So if it was a busy event, you could go from telescope to telescope looking at different stars or planets & then still go in the observatory to look at something amazing!
Also, the university in my town used to have a small observatory. It was very old when I went, so it is out of use now, but it was so cool!
With all my experiences combined, I have gotten to look at many stars (various), the rings of Saturn (observatory), the red planet Mars (amateur), Venus when it was red (observatory), a very close view of the surface of the Moon (university), various times when planets were in conjunctions or alignments, as well as Haley's Comet! (Showing how old I am there, LOL.)

Sorry for the long response - I get really nerdy about space & astronomy stuff! whee

Aww, that's so cute! My Dad wanted to be an astronaut when he grew up, as well. whee
So he & I bond over space stuff & star-gazing, etc. heart

Don't disappear completely! LOL
You've got new friends to keep up & chat with. LOL j/k no pressure

I've had this avi in my closet for a long time as a WIP & I finally found the last few items that seem to complete the "look".
So I'm glad it's getting good feedback! It's much more simple than my usual avis! sweatdrop

Also - don't feel bad, I am late to everything! LOL

OMG your new avi is so good! heart

My fav schemes, wow... So many to name... xp

Obviously I like all the rainbow ones so sherbert/sherbet, pastel rainbow, CMYK, etc
I'm obsessed w/ space, so I also love the schemes like Galaxy/Comet, Starry/First Wishes, Andromeda, Twilight, etc.
Also anything with a really pretty gradient of pastels, like Melty, Sinful, Soapy, Creamy Candy, Pale Bubblegum, etc.
Then I also love purples & pinks (like my current avi, which uses Vervain, Honey Lavender, Miserable, Ghastly, Amaranth, etc
And pretty much anything sparkly LOL so like Opalescent, Pearlescent, Crystallized/Larkspur, Lotus, etc..

See? Way too many!!
&& That's only some of my favorites! emotion_facepalm

@missing out on Dandy Kira Kira: That sucks! gonk
I got all the colors of it I wanted so far, but they are so rare/hard to get,
I only have 1 copy of each & usually had to pay real money and/or GCash to get them. neutral

But don't worry about gifting back!
I collect way too many schemes, esp sherbert!
my WL is also huge, so yours was easy to nagivate LOL
i was just surprised how many of the items I already had!
& some that I had but did not want to part with, they were selling super cheap!
so i snapped a few things up for like less than 6k total. xp

i have been collecting lots of items & bought stuff for myself even when i was buying for you! LOL sweatdrop
i am that person who buys gifts for herself when i shop for presents for others LMAO rofl

what other color schemes do you collect?
seabreeze?
i am not super into that 1 but i have a fair amount of items for it
what else?? 3nodding

Glad to hear that things should be okay for your family for now.
We have this apartment rented through the end of July.
Then we have the option to renew our lease for another year.
OR start paying month to month. It will be a little more expensive each month, but it will be okay if we only have to delay a few months.
So it will be good if things settle down before we decide.

The scheme I am wearing is called 'unicorn' or 'magical', which seems sort of obvious now that I say it LOL.
The scheme is really rare so the only way I got all these items is from a Bundle last year. I think they re-sold it recently & I was almost tempted to buy it again!
Then I combined it with sherbert/sherbet (aka pale rainbow) in the background bc I don't have enough stuff in the scheme! rofl

Glad you got a deal on Dandy Kira Kira! I know you are collecting that scheme.
Looks like all the Kira Kira recolors are too expensive, anyway.
But it turns out that I have copies of lots of the items on your WL!
So I hope it is updated~! wink

Loving your Pale Bubblegum avi! *w*

Your messages are so sweet, as always!
(Are you also questing any of the Kira Kira recolors? I want to get you something as a gift! ;A; )

We are trying to move out by Aug 1st, but we may have to move the date back to Sept instead.
There are talks of places opening up May 1st, but most people here agree that is too soon.
So who knows. sad

What is going on with your housing? Is everything okay??

Aww, you are super-sweet for checking in on me~! emotion_bigheart

My brother & I are planning to move across the country in 3 months' time.
But obvs with everything going on, there are lots of things we are uncertain about & are unable to plan for.
So between trying to start packing in the middle of a pandemic & us both getting sinus colds this week,
I've found myself a bit overwhelmed & drained.

But I called & cried to my mom on the phone yesterday so that helped. rofl
