And this is the part where I show my "true colors" because I'm too much of a Laura for my own good. I don't want to hate or dislike any character (well, except for maybe the Dean, Vordenberg, and Will...) I'm such a Hufflepuff in nature that it hurts my heart to do those things, but you're right, prejudice isn't justifiable by any means. I honestly don't think it's prejudice though on Danny's part. I always try to put myself in the shoes of the characters.
There's so much going on in the story. Not only are they young adults just starting their lives, but now they're up s**t creek and without a paddle. Danny is human and scared, no matter how much she tries to be brave. That part of her is very noble. I feel like things would be so much different if they hadn't angered a demi god. Danny showed remorse for Carmilla when they thought she had died during the battle under the Lustig, but that all changed, I think, when they fled from the campus. I don't know if was ever explained, but it could feel like abandonment to Danny. All of her friends left her and Kirsch to try and make peace with the Summers and the Zetas, and they were both unsuccessful in that, not that they could really do anything about it.
If Mattie had showed up under different circumstances (i.e. the campus was functioning as normal, no Anglerfish god, etc.), I don't think Danny would be so opposed to another vampire. In the beginning, maybe, since Mattie posed a threat to Laura when she first arrived, but that all changed when Mattie saw how happy Carmilla was with her, even though she teased her about it in her own way.
Honestly, Carmilla and Danny have... well, did have... the potential to be good friends. They're two sides of the same coin, yin and yang.
That's another reason why I love this series. The ********' parallels, man! It's enough to make me drool.
I'm not going to to judge you. We all have our reasons for not liking particular characters. Personally, I do like Danny, but I don't like how she says one thing and does another. Both she and Laura jump headfirst into things, and then Danny admonishes Laura for her behavior. Danny's prejudice is about Laura though. She kinda did "get thrown under a bus" for Carmilla, but she also shouldn't have expected so much from Laura when they never made anything official. And you know, I do agree with you about Kirsch. The series really uses him as a joke, but I love how they also gave a nod to the viewers and cleared up Kirsch's feelings about Danny. Of course he likes her and thinks she's hot, but he's also cool with being friends. I think that made them all happy. But as for not caring about Hollstien... how can you not?! gonk
Oh, I've been dead inside for a while now, haha. But in all seriousness, I've been discussing it on Facebook and reading everyone's opinions... Carmilla told Laura, and Laura told Danny. While it is Laura's fault for telling Danny -- she wouldn't have known to do so otherwise -- Carmilla should've known better herself. Laura's no longer pining for the tall gay, but she still has a close bond with her and the others. Had it been Laf or Perry or JP, she would've done the same for them. In a sense, all three of them are responsible, and that's why I think Carmilla is so angry. She's angry at herself for letting this happen, but hey, love will have its sacrifices. Mattie was one of them.
