It’s not about being a noob, I promise! I wouldn’t think any less of you for being confused about this, trust me. I was fumbling around trying to do it all too when everyone else was making it look so easy.
The Khajiit Caravan chest is only found in Dawnstar and Ahkari, the female Khajiit that you want, needs to be there for the infinite chest trick to work. I typically ‘wait’ inside the Windpeak Inn for 24 hours at a time while each time exiting to see if the Caravan is there. They arrive in Dawnstar once every 72 hours, but that 72 hours depends on when they last left Riften. Such is why it’s important to exit each 24 hour waiting period to ensure you didn’t miss them and by exiting a building you have a higher chance of them already having their campsite set up rather than missing them walking down the road if you’re ‘waiting’ outside.

And every merchant in every city, town, hold owns a merchant chest if they are capable of selling things. It’s about finding them and getting to them. The merchant chest that I told you about in Dawnstar belongs to that Khajiit and her alone.
You can YouTube “Merchant Chests in Skyrim” to find all the other ones. And the trick with selling your s**t to everyone by selling what you can until their gold is depleted, saving, killing them, and then reloading can be done with any shopkeeper not just blacksmiths. smile
