American Idol voting comes to Facebook: Cheaters Paradise
Tonight Facebook voting was promoted heavily on American Idol. The newest and best way to support your favorite American Idol Contestant. The commercials for Facebook voting were pushed out and the announcements made. Next week you can vote via Facebook. Facebook and Twitter are the two largest social media sites; the users on the two sites can heavily influence culture. Facebook is uniquely set up in a poll online way that can handle voting. It could be a cheater's paradise.

While it seems a good move for fans who are social media savvy, it seems like a Sanjaya moment all over again. If you have no idea what a Sanjaya moment is, the short version is that young savvy voters kept Sanjaya going on American Idol, despite the judges obvious desire to eliminate the contestant. Accusations of cheating abounded.

With 50 votes per person per show allowed, perhaps the temptation to cheat will be less. There are dedicated fans however, that could stretch that 50 votes into several hundred votes. We know several people that have mulitiple emails and several online election voting Facebook ID's. The obvious online poll problem will be that to make your vote count during close contests, you may have to put out more effort and vote 50 times. This is upping the ante for all committed Idol fans.

According to EW's Inside TV,

"Idol creator Simon Fuller has been pushing for the show to embrace online voting as part of its widespread overhaul of season 10. With Idol still dominating in the ratings and viewers embracing Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez as judges, the industry consensus seems to be that the show has managed to pull off something that many thought impossible -- soldiering on successfully in the wake of Cowell's departure."

Watch for American Idol's new page to be up and running next week, by March 1st. When on facebook simply search for American Idol, in the search tool, at the top of the page. Your 50 votes will count.
