Agriculture
The Company's Agriculture segment includes DuPont Pioneer (Pioneer) and DuPont Crop Protection (Crop Protection). The segment's businesses deliver a portfolio of products and services, including Pioneer brand seed products and other brands of insecticides, fungicides and herbicides. Pioneer is engaged in developing, producing and marketing corn hybrids and soybean varieties. Pioneer develops, produces and markets corn hybrids and soybean varieties, such as canola, sunflower, sorghum, inoculants, wheat and rice. Pioneer has seed production facilities located throughout the world. Pioneer markets and sells seed product under the Pioneer brand and also sells and distributes products utilizing additional brand names. In the corn and soybean markets of the United States Corn Belt, Pioneer brand products are sold through a force of independent sales representatives.
Pioneer's research and development focuses on integrating high-yielding germplasm with native and biotechnology traits with local environment and service. Pioneer develops products for specific regional application based on local product advancement and testing of the product concepts. Pioneer is pursuing the development of innovations for corn hybrids, soybean varieties, canola, sunflower, wheat and rice-based on market assessments. In corn seeds, programs include innovations for drought and nitrogen efficiency, insect protection and herbicide tolerance. In soybean seeds, programs include products for herbicide tolerance and insect protection.
Crop Protection serves the production agriculture industry with crop protection products for field crops, such as wheat, corn, soybean and rice; specialty crops, such as fruit, nut, vine and vegetables, and non-crop segments, including range and pasture management. Crop protection products are weed control, disease control and insect control offerings for foliar application or as a seed treatment. Crop Protection products are marketed and sold to growers and other end users through a network of wholesale distributors and crop input retailers. The sales growth of the business' insect control portfolio is led by DuPont Rynaxypyr insecticide, a product that is used across a range of core agricultural crops.
The Agriculture segment sales outside the United States accounted for approximately 54% of the segment's total sales. The commodities, raw materials and supplies for the Agriculture segment include benzene derivatives, other aromatics and carbamic acid-related intermediates, corn and soybean seeds, insect control products, natural gas and seed treatments.
Electronics & Communications
The Electronics & Communications (E&C) segment is a supplier of materials and systems for photovoltaic (PV), consumer electronics, displays and printing. In the PV market, E&C is the supplier of metallization pastes and backsheet materials. DuPont is a supplier of materials to the PV industry around the world.
In the consumer electronics markets, E&C materials are used across multiple devices, such as smart phones and tablets. The segment has a portfolio of materials for semiconductor fabrication and packaging, as well as materials for circuit applications, which are used by electronic component and device manufacturers. In packaging graphics, E&C is a supplier of flexographic printing systems, including Cyrel photopolymer plates and platemaking systems. The segment also engages in black-pigmented inks and develops new color-pigmented inks for network printing applications. In the displays market, E&C has developed solution-process technology for a range of materials, such as active matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) television displays. The commodities, raw materials and supplies for E&C include block co-polymers, copper, difluoroethane, hydroxylamine, oxydianiline, polyester film, precious metals and pyromellitic dianhydride.
Industrial Biosciences
The Industrial Biosciences segment is engaged in developing and manufacturing a portfolio of bio-based products. The segment's enzymes are used in processes and products across a range of markets, such as animal nutrition, detergents, food manufacturing, ethanol production and industrial applications. Industrial Biosciences also makes DuPont Sorona PTT renewably sourced polymer for use in carpet and apparel fibers. The Company's BioPDO 1,3 propanediol product is produced using fermentation and purification process. BioPDO is a building block for DuPont Sorona PTT polymer.
Nutrition & Health
The Nutrition & Health segment offers a range of bio-based ingredients and molecular diagnostic solutions, providing solutions for food ingredients, food nutrition, health and safety. The segment's product solutions include a range of DuPont Danisco food ingredients, such as cultures and Howaru probiotics, emulsifiers, texturants, natural sweeteners, such as Xivia and Supro soy-based food ingredients. Nutrition & Health serves various end markets within the food industry, including dairy, bakery, meat and beverage segments. Nutrition & Health has research, production and distribution operations around the world.
Nutrition & Health products are marketed and sold under various brand names. The commodities, raw materials and supplies for the Nutrition & Health segment include acetyls, citrus peels, glycerin, grain products, guar, locust bean gum, oils and fats, seaweed, soybean, soy flake, sugar and yeast.
Performance Materials
The Company's Performance Materials segment includes DuPont Performance Polymers (Performance Polymers) and DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers (Packaging & Industrial Polymers) businesses. The businesses provide polymers, elastomers, films, parts, and systems and solutions. The markets served by the segment include the automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and associated after-market industries, as well as electrical, packaging, construction, oil, electronics, photovoltaic, aerospace, chemical processing and consumer durable goods. The segment has customers in the motor vehicle OEM industry supply chain.

Sustainable Solutions is engaged in the safety consulting field, selling training products, as well as consulting services. Sustainable Solutions is also engaged in cleaning air, fuel and water. The business is a provider of process technology, specialty equipment and technical services to the sulfuric acid industry. Building Innovations is engaged in solid surfaces through its DuPont Corian and Montelli lines of products, which offer materials for residential and commercial purposes. DuPont Tyvek offers solutions for the protection of buildings and the business also offers geotextiles for landscaping applications. The commodities, raw materials and supplies for the Safety & Protection segment include aluminum trihydrate, benzene, high density polyethylene, isophthaloyl chloride, metaphenylenediamine, methyl methacrylate, paraphenylenediamine, polyester and terephthaloyl chloride.
