It's been a whirlwind season 5 for AXS TVs "The World's Greatest Tribute Bands" and this season we've seen the most diverse tributes yet like Frank Sinatra, Foreigner, Stevie Wonder and Johnny Cash to name a few. On Tuesday, May 12, the band Super Huey will play out the season finale with their tribute to the 80's pop band, Huey Lewis and the News.
The Huey Lewis catalog is filled with classic hits and the hour-long show will be packed with great songs like "Hip to be Square," "I Want a New Drug" and " The Heart of Rock & Roll" to name a few. Says Merlino, "We're gonna come and just rock that place. We feed off the audience a lot when we play and we bring a lot of energy to the stage. It's going to be a huge charge for us to play there at the Whisky."
Since being asked to perform on "The World's Greatest Tribute Bands" Merlino's seen an increase in booking and it keeps getting busier and busier. He tells us, "It's been better since it's on our schedule now. Instead of our management having to go out and find places to book us, people are coming to us." And with resurgence in music of the 80s Super Huey has been playing outdoor festivals and theaters to families and kids "digging it just as much as the parents who grew up with it." He also sees his share of the contingent, with people showing up in Ray Bans, 501 jeans, and skinny ties. He says, "It's a lot of fun."
