CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
An 8-mile police chase that started in East Garfield Park ended late Monday when a van crashed into two other cars in Chicago Lawn on the Southwest Side, sending five people to hospitals.
About 10:30 p.m., officers in a squad car saw shots fired from a silver minivan at someone on a sidewalk in the 3200 block of West Carroll, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The minivan took off and officers gave chase all the way to the 5900 block of South Western, where the minivan blew a red light and smashed into two cars, Alfaro said.
The driver of the minivan and four people from the cars were taken Stroger and Holy Cross hospitals, all of them in either good condition or later stabilized, police said.
Four other people in the minivan, all males, were arrested at the scene. No charges were pending early Tuesday.
