Pregnant women often experience acid reflux. As your baby grows, it crowds the stomach. This can cause stomach acids to backup into the esophagus. Eating non-acidic foods that are low in fat will help prevent reflux. If that is not of help, certain teas will do the trick with no harm to your baby.

If you have acid reflux disease and you smoke, you may want to think about quitting. Nicotine sparks stomach acid production, causing a rise in acid reflux flares. Avoid quitting cold turkey, as the added stress could actually intensify the problems with reflux. Instead, quitting should be a gradual effort.

It's important to remain upright when you are eating as well as up to three hours afterwards. Lying down directly after a meal can allow acid to travel up your esophagus with much greater ease. This will help you feel comfortable when you stand.

Exercising after eating can be a disaster if you're suffering from acid reflux. This is because you can force digestive acids upwards as you exercise. Wait at least two hours before working out.

Reflux can be quite painful, sometimes mimicking a heart attack. However, you should never ignore chest pain. It could be a heart attack. Speak with your doctor about what course to take. If misdiagnosis occurs, you could end up with serious health issues.

Raise the top part of your bed. You can do this by putting a brick under the headboard. You can also prop your head up with pillows. Raise the head of the bed about six inches. This will naturally keep the acids and foods in your stomach when you sleep through the night.

Try to eat slowly. Don't eat too much at one time. It may help your condition to eat smaller meals instead of eating until you are completely full. Make sure you taste every bite of your food and don't rush the process. Overeating and gulping down your food can trigger your acid reflux. You can slow everything down by laying down your fork after each bite.

Eat small meals more frequently than large ones. Having a couple of large meals a day will put you at risk for acid reflux. This is because there is additional pressure on your sphincter, which makes it open up. The acid in your stomach enters the esophagus which causes heartburn. You should eat smaller, more-frequent meals during the day.

Since fatty foods are a major cause of acid reflux, try to eat low-fat foods when possible. Fast food is one of the main culprits that you must avoid. Check out food labels so you can educate yourself on the amount of fat in certain foods.

Acid reflux can turn your life upside down. When you suffer from acid reflux, knowledge is your best weapon for defeating it. Use the tips from this article to get rid of your acid reflux for good.
