Same Ground on Caregiving
Greetings one and all! It is my distinct honor and advantage to publish my very first short article on this blog site. I am delighted by the invitation to post routinely. In subsequent reflections, I will share stories and understandings originated from my personal and professional experiences as a caretaker. Basically, I am by nature, support, and requirement a caretaker. And given that you are reading this blog, I believe I am safe to presume you have an interest in caregiving as well. As a result, this is the common ground on which we stand. The basis for future discussions.

My passion for providing useful information to caretakers and care receivers is rooted in the specifying minutes of my life. When I was 15 years of ages, my life changed forever. My mom was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. Over the next 8 years, I acted as one of her main caretakers-- experiencing the blessings and the concerns of that daunting journey. A decade later, I shared in the care of my daddy who suffered a stroke and ultimately died of terminal cancer. I also companioned my godmother who developed vascular dementia in the last years of her life. Each time I was called to care, I felt ill-prepared and ill-informed. Reactive instead of proactive. Everything seemed beyond my control in spite of my finest efforts and intentions. Sound familiar?

In the years following my personal experiences as a caretaker, my professional life unfolded in amazing and unanticipated methods. I never in my wildest dreams envisioned dealing with households challenged by terminal illness. That was a story I did pass by to revisit. Nevertheless, as it winds up, that is exactly what I required to do. It is what I am called to do. As you will certainly learn in future postings, I worked in hospice and palliative take care of years, acting as a chaplain and neighborhood educator for a hospice in Denver, Colorado. Today, I function as an academic specialist. I speak and compose about the issues connected to aging, health problem, and end-of-life care. My preliminary experiences as a caregiver inform every program I provide and every short article I write. As an expert in the field, I am well versed in theories, models, research, and fundamental teachings appropriate to caregiving. However, understanding the experience of caregiving from the within out is my catalyst to serve caregivers and care receivers.

My goal in composing is simple yet considerable. By sharing stories, I wish to educate, enlighten, and inspire you. I am a company follower that understanding is power. I will certainly encourage you to be proactive instead of responsive-- prepare to care. Collect the required information to make informed decisions and develop an initial plan of care. I will certainly enlighten you about the difficulties in addition to the chances managed by offering and receiving care. And, I will certainly motivate you to engage the trip of caregiving in life-giving, ingenious ways.

I anticipate the continuous discussion. If you have specific concerns or issues connected to your caregiving experience, I would like to learn through you. Till the next posting, I want you and yours numerous blessings.
