Hives can show up anyplace on the human body and may be round or oval in shape. Hives symptoms include localized swelling, burning or stinging sensations, and bumps that go away on their own within 24-48 hours (although new bumps may appear in their place). It is true to say that a hives outbreak usually lasts less than 24 hours.
These bumps are due to 'leaky' blood vessels in which plasma is released due to the release of histamine from cells around the blood vessels. Hives is more of an annoyance than a threat. It can last from a couple of hours to a day before they vanish. Allergic reaction hives that appear due to an allergic reaction to a particular food, insect sting or bite or medication can be alleviated with simple over the counter allergy medication such as an antihistamine.
Hives can also develop due to physical stress, sunlight, cold and physical pressure. Hives can be brought on by stress, change in temperature (both hot and cold) and a number of environmental factors. If you are allergic towards certain foods, medications, food additives or preservatives, insect stings or sunlight exposure, you are prone to experience hives.
Fresh foods contribute to hives more than cooked ones. Hot water can further irritate the skin and make the itching even worse.
