We had been sitting still for the entire time. Yet, we were breathing so hard that you'd think that we had just finished running a marathon. I'd never been this close to any human being before in my life.
But then, his next statement made me realize that he wasn't exactly human to begin with.
"I don't want to hurt you, Jackie..." He whispered, his thumb idly, softly running across my lips. This single action...this single, small and subtle touch created a spark within me.
I was hungry. Hungrier than I ever had been before. Hungry for him. He had shown me a side of myself that I had never seen before. Hell, until he came along, I never even knew that it existed.
This part of myself that I had grown to love so much. So very different than the shy, meek and irritatingly quiet wallflower that I usually was.
I was different, now. I was confidant, powerful, and sexy. And I was just as dangerous as he was, now.
Which is why I replied to him, with no hesitation, without any waver in my tone, "You couldn't hurt me if you tried."
His lips devoured mine in the next second, a growl rising from the back of his throat that sent a delicious shiver throughout my entire body.
This boy...this creature...I wanted him. Needed him. Not in spite of the fact, but BECAUSE of the fact that he wasn't human.
And tonight, I would thank him for making me realize that neither was I.
