First off, I would like to state that I am in no way insulting Gaia. I am not calling them out on any hypocrisy, despite the title of this entry. I am merely explaining how they (like Disney) are fond of slipping in some more adult references on the site. Also this is strictly about the interface of Gaia and how it runs. No references to individual users will be made.
Now to jump into the action!
At the bottom of Gaia, I have noticed a message warning the user that Gaia is "PG-13" and thus nothing deemed inappropriate for that level may be posted. Gaia, however, does not hesitate to use some very suggestive names in their interface. We will start with a look at the shops. Sure, most of the names are harmless. But then you get to The Jock Strap. I know it is a useful item for sporting and it is a sporting goods store...yet out of all sporting goods, it is the most perverted one they could have chosen. The number of jokes an adult user could come up with are endless. Following it on the list is Rubie's Rack...why name a store after Rubie's chest? Oh, wait. You were trying to be clever, punny, and tricky. And then there's Junk in the Trunk, which is also a reference to a big butt. Are you starting to see where I'm coming from? Also Sam's Body and Parts is mildly suggestive as well. What are you doing with Sam's Body and Parts? Stop handling Sam's Parts without paying! No shoes; no service. So many other (above PG-13) innuendos out there.
We as users have to be very careful what we post. Gaia gives us the perfect food for hilarious, perverted conversations. Yet we must keep quiet and hope the youngsters don't catch on.
Let's take a look at one of the game titles now. Electric Love Faktori...that is seriously a title. Love Factory is one thing but making it electric implies other things. Gaia is trying to be punny and suggestive without breaking their self-imposed PG-13 rule.
The real questions come from the achievements. Sausage fest is on the list. It may mean only a bunch of males posting in a forum on Gaia, but it means something completely different elsewhere. Nudist colony is another one that seems a tad inappropriate. Then there is "That's what she said." That one doesn't even try to be innocent. It almost seems like Gaia is just teasing us with the PG-13 rule. Do they want us to challenge them in this game of PG-13 with Perverted Potential?
I could go on and on, but I will end this post here. Maybe you've noticed other odd things I haven't. If you have any additional thoughts, don't hesitate to comment. This could all be a big joke that I missed. Just let me know.
Thanks for reading.
