Aekea was the type of town that was very dense, almost claustrophobic. The buildings were packed together, and although it was no small town, everything seemed to be within walking distance.
It was late afternoon and Ty wandered through cramped streets, staring at a message on her phone. The message was from an old client from her animated loot days. She hadn't expected to hear from him since their business relationship was over, but she was pleased to hear about a potential job. The shop was out of the way and sort of down a shady alley, but it was rather near the guard station so she could take off running if need be. A rather nice shop front was on Ty's right, completely out of place with the grimy surroundings. The message did say that the owner was a bit odd, but she worked alone and looked forward to having some help.
The shop was incredibly quaint, the storefront looking like a pastel colored cottage and the inside no different. It seemed to be a strange mix between a bakery, florist, and gift shop. An older woman in her fifties was behind the counter. She seemed to be of Asian descent, with smooth porcelain skin with some crow's feet around her eyes, long black hair with streaks of grey piled on her head in a bun, and deep brown eyes. Her white skin contrasted with the darkness of her hair gave her an ethereal appearance. She didn't seem like "normal" people.
"Ah, you must be Ty. Travis told me you'd be coming."
"A pleasure," Ty responded to the woman, shaking her hand delicately.
"Word is you're quite the chef and gardener."
"I'd like to think I'm good at it," She chuckled.
"Good, good. I could use some help here. The name's Tigerlily."
"If you don't mind my asking...what type of shop is this place? I see food, flowers, baskets and ribbons...I can't quite place my finger on it."
"Simply put, this is a gift shop. We assemble baskets of pretty much anything--be they flower arrangements, food, a mix of both...other things."
Ty gave the woman a look. Other things, what other things? What the hell was she getting into now? Then it hit her. Adorning the shelves were many boxes and jars, full of what seemed to be components. "You dabble in alchemy?"
"I do. The clientele of the shop usually is wealthy Duremites. We can make gift baskets of almost anything. I'm a jeweler by trade and with alchemy I can make enchanted amulets, earrings, and all other manner of desirables. Now, we also make affordable baskets with food and flowers so that's where you come in. You bake and arrange flowers, I make jewelry and alchemize more specialized things. You'll be paid weekly, and I'll train you to take care of my more rare plants used in alchemy. You'll also help make inks and dyes and keep inventory of gems, feathers, and other enchanted materials. We'll both take orders and work together. That's the basic gist. Any questions?"
"Uh, wow that's a lot to take in. But I understand what is required of me and I look forward to working with you." Ty smiled and bowed a bit at the older woman.
"See you in the morning Ty."
