16-year-old Rogers High School student was hit and killed Wednesday morning by a van as she crossed the street to catch the bus, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported.
The girl died on the way to the hospital, sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said.
Investigators believe the girl was not in a crosswalk when she headed across the street in the area of 160th Street East and 88th Avenue East about 7:20 a.m. and was hit by the van. The girl was trying to catch the bus early, before it turned around to get her and other students at her stop, Troyer said.
"The preliminary investigation shows she was crossing in an area where she shouldn't have been," he said. "She stepped in front of a moving vehicle."
The van's driver was being interviewed.
The Sheriff's Department has sent chaplains to Rogers High School.
Now this girl could have lived if only she hadnt missed the bus.... It was not her time and she should have lived but the sick thing is that 3 Seventh graders walked by the scene of the accident and said "there is blood everywhere" and then soon after started laughing... im sorry but i think that if you can mock the dead in such away you should not even be aloud the speakher death has impacted many and she will never be forgotten.... she died infront of her boyfriend and all they can do is laugh? she cant defend herself so now we do and if you can laugh at her death then you have no sympathy for her friends and family or even the respect for the dead..... that is just sick and wrong and i hate it....
