Chapter 17: the last chapter of this series but i already have the first chapter of the sequel wrote for you ppl whoever it is that actually reads this...
“Airi?! What are you guys doing walking around here soaked, un?” Deidara asked surprised to see her, Yuichiro and Zenzuro walking into the base soaked and covered in mud, but she didn’t feel like answering at the moment she just wanted to return to her room for awhile and get out of her cold clothes and into something a bit warmer…and drier. Yuichiro must have realized what she wanted to do because it was he who answered the older blond instead. “I dragged her outside to train for awhile, since she had been kept inside for so long, and she was turning into another Zetsu.” Airi walked back over to him, and smacked the back of his head. “I was not, he was being nice to me by helping me out by bringing me something to eat while I stayed in my room to try and rest. And he knew that I needed something to satisfy my blood thirst.” she said a bit annoyed and yet still she was in good spirits as she walked to her room. She didn’t waste any time when she got into her room, to lock her door, knowing that if she waited much longer that there would be someone who wanted to talk or something. She walked to her bathroom, to shed her now mud caked clothes and get a shower started. She sighed as the steam hit her as she got in to wash the mud from her skin and hair.
When she finally got out of the shower, she quickly dried herself up and dressed in a pair of shorts and a shirt that was much too big for her, that she had borrowed from Sasori ages ago. She then got up and walked barefoot across her rug that was on top of the bare wooden floor and unlocked her door, only opening it partially to see if there was anyone outside her do for whatever reason. There wasn’t anyone in sight, although she was sure that she could hear music from Yuichiro’s room, but it was very faint. This made her curious; she cautiously walked over and looked into his almost open door, to see that he was listening to his CD player, music blaring out of the small headphones.
Yuichiro looked around his room, bored and not able to think of anything to do other than to listen to the CD he had found the other day; his wet hair was dripping everywhere. He then spotted Airi, which surprised him. He could tell she was curious, as to what interested her at the moment he couldn’t guess but he motioned for her to enter. He could see that she was being very cautious and took a few glances around her when she entered, as if she were afraid that something was going to attack her. He could feel his mouth curving into a smile; she was scared of his room. He could see that she was surprised by the way his room looked; this made him chuckle slightly, what had she expected his room to look like? He then began to notice that she was now staring intently at his right eye, which didn’t surprise him either, but it made him self-conscious. “Go ahead and do whatever you want, I really don’t care.” He said as he moved his damp bangs back over his right eye, so that she would stop staring. She nodded and seemed to relax, but he could now see why she was being silent at the moment, she was thinking and observing his room. “Did you expect some skulls and torture devices?!” he asked his smile now even more visible. “Hmm, you can never know with some of the normal looking members…take Hidan for example…but no, its just that I haven’t ever been in here before, I didn’t know what to expect all together….you are a hard person to guess about, who knows what you would use to decorate your room with…” she said truthfully, he let her sit next to him on the bed, without a word. “You call Hidan normal?” he couldn’t help but ask, as if she were insane. “He’s more normal than some of the members we have, at least he doesn’t look like a freak like some of us.” She argued back, defending the immortal that was a close friend of hers. This made him even more curious as to where this conversation would go, especially how she said ‘us’ when referring to the freaks in the Akatsuki, meaning she was most likely referring to herself as well as some of the more obvious members. “And who are the freaks of the Akatsuki?” he asked trying to choose his words carefully, curious to see if he would be right on her referring to herself as well as others. “Most of us are freaks…if you hadn’t noticed…I mean Sasori is a human puppet, Kisame is a shark…demon…thing, Zetsu is part man-eating plant, Kakuzu is a human pincushion, Konan is a stack of paper, and so on…ending with me who is just a shadow in everyone’s mind, I could disappear and after awhile no one would remember that I was there…Need I go on?” she asked. He noticed that neither her gaze nor her voce faltered when she spoke of herself, meaning that she entirely believed it. “Airi, you know that isn’t true, about you, no one could forget you that easily, not if they have been around you long enough, or if they actually cared about you, like the Akatsuki do, even Akuma didn’t forget about you, and according to you, it had been a few years since you last saw him. Honestly I would have though that he would refuse to let you go again, he looked like he had missed you a lot….” he tried to reason wit her. “The only reason that he would even think of me is to curse me because I am the reason he left Sunagakure. He knew that I was too weak to be able to defend myself yet and I didn’t know anything about what was outside of the safety of the village, so he took it upon himself as my partner to protect me from the things I knew so little of. He hates my guts now, he had a good life in Sunagakure and because I was forced to flee, he left with me…other than that he had no reason to leave.” she said and he could tell that her tone stayed the same, monotone and a bit regretful. “You know that isn’t true, he didn’t hate you…he may have gotten a bit hotheaded while we were there, but he didn’t hate you…” “You wouldn’t know him well enough to tell the differences in his emotions, it took me a good while to realize that he detested me for making him leave, and now he has no way to go back to Sunagakure because he became a rogue with me. He wouldn’t have a good enough reason for why he left other than the fact that he wanted to protect me from the dangers I knew nothing about, and that wouldn’t be enough to pacify the elders and the Kazekage. Also he would have never shown openly that he hated me after he saw that I had brought you two with me, and that I was with the Akatsuki. He knew that it would cause too many problems if he voiced his hatred for me, because one I would be protected to some extent by the Akatsuki and if he had tried to kill me there was a chance that they would go after him, and two, I had brought not one person to Chishio but two people and if he made a big deal about it, there would be plenty of trouble for all of us to deal with, including him. I only cause trouble for those I care for…” she finished as she looked around his room again, her eyes constantly straying to columns of crystal and other stones, and just some random things that were created out of crystal, until the urge was too much and she got up and walked around things for a closer look. It caused Yuichiro to chuckle because she was just so mystified by it. He had never seen anyone who could be around him for so long and still be amazed by his crystal, normally people would get used to it within days if not in a month or two, but she would always seem like a little kid when she was around his crystal sculptures and such, it just made her so curious. He got up and stood beside her, without her detecting him, she was that astounded by the gleaming stone. He put his hand on the nearest column of crystal and began to create shapes with it, molding it without touching it any more than with one finger on the top, it twisted and turned and then he pulled his hand away from it. The pillar no longer resembled anything much, it was just an orb of sparkling diamonds and crystals sitting on a twisted dragon claw made of glass, the orb shined in all different colors of the rainbow. He was not disappointed when he saw her expression; excitement was clear in her eyes. ‘If she can control the shadows and the things that have shadows, like she says, I wonder is she can control crystal as well. It would make a great exercise for her, and she would still be training while learning something new. I’ll have to ask Leader later…” he thought to himself, it seemed like a perfect idea to him, she already seemed to like the element, so what harm could it do. He now took the time to look outside, and was surprised to see that it was now the dead of night, that surprised him, how long had he been spaced out just listening to music? Airi seemed to realize the same thing, by the looks of it, because she was looking at him as if she expected him to kick her out of his room for the night. It made him chuckle, she always was able to know things that really didn’t have anything to do with her, in that way she could help some people by helping them finish what they try to say to others but when it comes to other things it doesn’t help any. “Sorry Yuiro I got to go, I have to work on some new puppet designs, but if it gets too loud just bang on the door or open the door and yell for me to shut up.” she said as she walked the door. “Right, don’t worry about it I should be fine…sleep well…whenever you go to sleep.” he said absentmindedly. She smiled as she left his room. “Thanks, you too, and don’t worry, I wont work myself until I pass out, not this time…” “I’ll make sure of that, if I have to knock you out myself…just so you know.” he said smiling also; it was almost contagious, when she actually smiled.
Airi heard a knock on her door as she laid on her bed, just staring at the shadows, at the sound she sat up. “I was about to go to sleep Yuiro, you don’t need to knock me out today…” she said talking to the person on the other side. She heard the door creak open slightly. “Airi, do I even want to know what you’re talking about?” “Oh… sorry about that Zen…Yuiro said that he would knock me out if I stayed up too long again.” she said laughing embarrassed that she had just called Zenzuro, Yuichiro by accident. That would have been a good reason for someone to kill her had it been anyone else. “It seems that the threat works by the sound of it too…anyways, Pein told me to give this to you…” He said as he handed her a manila folder that had a few loose papers. She took it and glanced through it, her eyes widening as she read its contents. “NO WAY?!” She said as she finally looked through everything. “What? What could it possible to get you to say only two words? Normally it’s either no response or a load of complaining, but only two words? It’s the sign of the apocalypse.” Zenzuro said joking, trying to figure out what this secret document meant to her. “I…I have a mission…that will last about a year…” she said hopelessly. “Hey I know that we get on your nerves from time to time but I didn’t know that we irritated you that badly!” Zenzuro said a bit defensively, thinking that it was his fault for her reactions. “No, you don’t get it; I have a mission, just me. It’s solo.” She said her mood not lightening in any way. “Hmmm, no wonder he didn’t want me to look inside then…but we are partners, why would he try to separate us?” Zenzuro asked he was as confused as she was. “Airi…I thought you were going to sleep?” She heard Yuichiro asked as he stuck his head out of the partially opened door. “Oh, I’m sorry am I keeping you awake?” she asked apologetically. “No, not really, but I heard you say that you were going to sleep…I was just curious.” he answered, greeting Zenzuro with a nod of his head. “Zenzuro brought me a mission from Pein…” she said miserably. “About time, but why do you act like it’s the end of the world?” he asked immediately seeing that her mood was because of the mission. “Because it’s just for me, I am to go on a solo mission for about a year.” “Oh…” he sighed in defeat. “I see, you don’t want to go alone, after all this time neither of us have truly gone on a solo…” he said getting at why she was acting so down now. “When do you have to go?” Zenzuro asked. “Tomorrow, early too…” she sighed looking through the documents a second time. “I suppose that Pein knows best…” Zenzuro said without saying much more. Yuichiro snorted. “He wouldn’t know what was best if it stood right in front of him with a huge sign, but we’ll see you off then, since we can’t really do anything at the moment.” “Thank you…now I suppose that I need to sleep so that I will be ready in the morning.” She said lying back on her bed and waited for sleep to claim her.
“Well, I suppose this is farewell for the time being…” She said gloomily, as she turned towards her best friends and away from the path that she soon would be taking. “Don’t make it sound like we’ll never see each other, Airi, we WILL meet up again.” Yuichiro said determination set in his eyes. “Right, you two stay out of trouble, and I will try to do the same.” she said his determination rubbing off on her. “Airi close your eyes, we have something for you…” Zenzuro said as he pulled something from his pocket. “And no using your shadows.” he smirked, hearing her sigh in defeat. Within seconds he managed to get a small chain to secure itself around her neck loosely. “Okay, you can look.” Yuichiro said, a smile spread across his face. She opened her eyes and looked down; right there beside her Akatsuki pendant was a wolf charm its eyes seemed to gleam in the coming sunrise. “It’s beautiful. Now it’s my turn…” She said as she hugged them, slipping something around their necks, they each had a piece of her old necklace. The pieces would fit together perfectly; they each had a serpent twisted around one half of the sword if put together it would look as if there wasn’t a seam. She looked behind her with sorrow, “Its time that I leave, I suppose…I will see you two in about a year then…” “Right, I suppose we cant keep you from doing something as ordered…but don’t get yourself killed…” Yuichiro said hugging her one last time, Zenzuro did so to and she turned before walking into the forest, looking back one last time to wave farewell.
